RESULTS The incidence of THA for patients aged 20 to 50 increased slightly from 33,003 in 2009 to 33,545 in 2016 (p less then 0.001). Overall, bearing surface type was reported in 46.8% (n=127,876) of THAs. Of the THAs with bearing surface codes, the use of MOP (29.6 to 18.7%) and MOM (39.6 to 4.4%) decreased, while COC (9.0 to 14.3%) and COP (21.8 to 62.6%) utilization increased (p less then 0.001 for all). Here, we overcome these limitations by using new analytical approaches that project representations of sequence space to dissect the evolution of proteins with both ordered and disordered regions, and the correlated changes between these. We use the Fasciclin-Like Arabinogalactan-proteins (FLAs) as a model family, since they contain a variable number of globular fasciclin domains as well as several distinct types of disordered regions proline (Pro)-rich arabinogalactan (AG) regions and longer Pro-depleted regions. Until this year, there had not previously been a conference focused on translational studies in the broad and heterogeneous group of kidney cancers. Therefore, a group of researchers, clinicians, and patient advocates dedicated to renal cell carcinoma (RCC) launched the Kidney Cancer Research Summit (KCRS) to spur collaboration and further therapeutic advances in these tumors. This commentary aims to summarize the oral presentations and serve as a record for future iterations of this meeting. The KCRS sessions addressed the tumor microenvironment, novel methods of drug delivery, single cell sequencing strategies, novel immune checkpoint blockade and cellular therapies, predictive biomarkers and rare variants of kidney cancers. Many conceptuses are lost at this stage. It is thought that preeclampsia, intrauterine growth restriction, and other placental syndromes that manifest later in pregnancy may originate early in placentation. Thus, there is a need for models of early human placental development. Treating human embryonic stem cells (hESC) with BMP4 (bone morphogenic protein 4) plus A83-01 (ACTIVIN/NODAL signaling inhibitor) and PD173074 (fibroblast growth factor 2 or FGF2 signaling inhibitor) (BAP conditions) induces differentiation to the trophoblast lineage (hESCBAP), but it is not clear which stage of trophoblast differentiation these cells resemble. The linuron catabolic ability is likely acquired by horizontal gene transfer but the mechanisms involved are not known. The full genome sequences of six linuron degrading Variovorax strains isolated from geographically distant locations were analyzed to acquire insight into the mechanisms of genetic adaptation towards linuron metabolism. Whole genome sequence analysis confirmed the phylogenetic position of the linuron degraders in a separate clade within Variovorax and indicated that they unlikely originate from a common ancestral linuron degrader. The linuron degraders differentiated from Variovorax strains that do not degrade linuron by the presence of multiple plasmids of 20 to 839 kb, including plasmids of unknown plasmid groups. The linuron catabolic gene clusters showed (i) high conservation and synteny and (ii) strain-dependent distribution among the different plasmids. Most of them were bordered by IS1071 elements forming composite transposon structures, often in a multimeric array configuration, appointing IS1071 as a key element in the recruitment of linuron catabolic genes in Variovorax. Most of the strains carried at least one (catabolic) broad host range plasmid that might have been a second instrument for catabolic gene acquisition. We conclude that clade 1 Variovorax strains, despite their different geographical origin, made use of a limited genetic repertoire regarding both catabolic functions and vehicles to acquire linuron biodegradation. © The Author(s) 2020.
