Radioactive iodine (RAI) is frequently used as adjuvant therapy in patients with differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC). However, its effect on ovarian reserve has not been fully elucidated, with studies yielding inconsistent results. The aim of this study was to systematically review and meta-analyze the best available evidence regarding the effect of RAI on ovarian reserve in premenopausal women with DTC.

Menopause and its associated decline in oestrogen is linked to chronic conditions like cardiovascular disease and osteoporosis, which may be difficult to disentangle from the effects of ageing. Further, post-menopausal women are at increased risk of cerebrovascular disease, linked to declines in cerebral blood flow (CBF) and cerebrovascular reactivity (CVR), yet the direct understanding of the impact of the menopause on cerebrovascular function is unclear. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to examine the literature investigating CBF and CVR in pre- compared with post-menopausal women METHODS Five databases were searched for studies assessing CBF or CVR in pre- and post-menopausal women. Meta-analysis examined the effect of menopausal status on middle cerebral artery velocity (MCAv), and GRADE-assessed evidence certainty RESULTS Nine studies (n=504) included cerebrovascular outcomes. Six studies (n=239) reported negligible differences in MCAv between pre- and post-menopausal women [2.11 in two of three studies, but high-quality evidence is lacking. Across outcomes, study methodology and reporting criteria for menopause were inconsistent CONCLUSIONS MCAv was similar in post- compared with pre-menopausal women. Methodological differences in characterising menopause and inconsistent reporting of cerebrovascular outcomes make comparisons difficult. To compare outcomes of symptomatic and asymptomatic women with endometrial cancer and a preoperative diagnosis of an endometrial polyp.

An Israel Gynecologic Oncology Group multi-center retrospective cohort study.

Of 635 patients with endometrial cancer and a preoperative diagnosis of an endometrial polyp who underwent surgery between 2002 and 2014 in one of 11 centers in Israel were divided into two groups according to the presence of bleeding symptoms. Outcome measures included recurrence-free survival, disease-specific survival and overall survival. Survival data were plotted according to the method of Kaplan and Meier and compared using the log-rank test.

There were 513 symptomatic and 122 asymptomatic women with endometrial cancer and a preoperative diagnosis of an endometrial polyp. The median follow-up was 52 months (range 12-120 months). There were no differences between patients who experienced bleeding and those who did not in 5-year recurrence-free survival (85.2 % vs. Epacadostat 85.7 %; p=0.83, respectively), disease-specific survival (88.2 % vs. 89.2 %; p=0.71, respectively), or overall survival (80.2% vs. 78.4 %; p=0.97, respectively).

A consortium of scientific societies coordinated by the Spanish Menopause Society met to formulate recommendations for the use of MHT by patients with medical conditions based on the best available evidence. The project protocol, which was registered in the Open Science Framework platform (DOI 10.17605/OSF.IO/J6WBC), will be conducted in two phases. As a first step we will conduct a series of systematic reviews on the safety of MHT, addressing eight clinical questions. The findings of these systematic reviews will help to inform a structured process in which a panel of experts will define the eligibility criteria according to a specific framework, which will facilitate the discussion and development process. For the first time, a set of eligibility criteria, based on clinical evidence and developed according to the most rigorous methodological tools, will be defined. This will provide health professionals with a powerful decision-making tool that can be used in the management of menopausal symptoms.

To assess the association between the atherogenic index of plasma (AIP) and the trabecular bone score (TBS) in postmenopausal women. Furthermore, to analyze its relationship with bone mineral density (BMD), and serum concentrations of 25OHD, PTH, and bone turnover markers.

Cross-sectional study nested in a population-based cohort of 1,367 postmenopausal women aged 44-94 years. Participants were classified according to TBS values (<1.230, between 1.230-1.310 and >1.310) and regarding a widely accepted cut-off point of ≥0.11 for AIP. We analyzed TBS, BMD, serum levels of 25OHD, PTH, P1NP, CTX, and clinical covariates. A multivariate analysis was performed to assess the adjusted association between AIP and TBS.

The mean age of participants was 63±10 years. Women with TBS values <1.230 were older, had greater BMI, greater prevalence of fractures after the age of 40 years, more years since menopause, higher values of AIP, and significantly lower levels of HDL-C, serum phosphate, and 25OHD. AIP values ≥0.11 were not associated with the presence of densitometric osteoporosis (OR=0.83, 95%CI 0.58-1.18; p=0.30) but, in multivariate analysis, AIP values ≥0.11 were related to a degraded microarchitecture after controlling for age, BMI, smoking, diabetes status, ischemic heart disease, statin use, GFR, a fragility fracture at over 40 years of age and lumbar osteoporosis by DXA, with an adjusted OR=1.61 (95%CI 1.06-2.46; p=0.009).

To compare metastatic pheochromocytoma/paraganglioma (MPP) patients with germline SDHB mutations (SDHB MPP) and without SDHB mutations (non-SDHB MPP) in terms of baseline clinical manifestations, tumor characteristics, and outcomes.

Clinical data were retrospectively reviewed in 101 MPP patients, including 34 SDHB MPP patients and 61 non-SDHB MPP patients.

SDHB MPP patients presented at a younger age at onset, diagnosis, or metastasis (25 ± 16 vs 36 ± 14, 28 ± 17 vs 38 ± 15, and 31 ± 17 vs 44 ± 14 years old, respectively, P < .01 for all) than non-SDHB patients. Compared with their non-SDHB counterparts, SDHB patients were more likely to have paragangliomas (83% vs 47%, P < .05), synchronous metastases (44% vs 23%, P < .05), bone metastases (80% vs 48%, P < .01), and a shorter progression-free survival (3 years vs 5 years, P < .01). The Ki-67 index was higher in SDHB tumors (P < .05). The 5- and 10-year survival rates were 79% and 74%, respectively, in all patients. Seventeen patients evelop bone metastasis or sole liver metastasis. Our results suggest that patients with SDHB mutations should be identified early and monitored regularly to achieve optimal clinical outcomes.AHR is expressed in a variety of skin cell types and contributes to skin homeostasis.
