5%), gmhD (57.5%), lafA (100%) and motA (30%). The antibiotic susceptibility of the Vibrio species isolates revealed that most of them were resistant to ampicillin, cephalothin and carbenicillin but susceptible to pefloxacin and trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole. Our results indicated a high prevalence of pathogenic Vibrio species in seafood, a high presence of virulence genes and that Vibrio species continuously exposed to antibiotics, therefore, consumption of these kind of seafood carries a potential risk for foodborne illness. The presence of epithelial dysplasia (ED) in oral leukoplakia is the single most important predictor of malignant transformation (MT). The majority of leukoplakias, however, do not show evidence of ED and yet MT of these lesions is well-recognized. These lesions have been referred to as "hyperkeratosis/hyperplasia, no dysplasia," "keratosis of unknown significance" and "hyperkeratosis, not reactive (HkNR)." This study evaluates the MT rate of such leukoplakias. A literature review was performed to identify cohort studies on leukoplakias where (1) there was a recorded histopathologic diagnosis, (2) cases of "hyperkeratosis/hyperplasia, no dysplasia" comprised part of the cohort, and (3) follow-up information was available. There were 9,358 leukoplakias, of which 28.5% exhibited ED while 37.7% consisted of HkNR. Follow-up ranged from 15 to 73 months. The incidence of MT in leukoplakia exhibiting HkNR was 4.9%, compared to 15.3% for ED. Among oral squamous cell carcinomas (SCC) with previously biopsied, site-specific precursor lesions, 55.7% arose from ED/carcinoma in situ and 28.0% arose from HkNR. Leukoplakia exhibiting HkNR has a substantial MT rate, similar to that of mild ED, and must be recognized and managed appropriately to reduce oral SCC incidence.Secretory carcinoma (SC) of salivary gland, previously known as mammary analogue secretory carcinoma, is a rare low-grade malignancy harboring a diagnostic ETV6-NTRK3 gene fusion. SC of salivary gland shares histopathological, immunohistochemical and genetic characteristics with SC of the breast. There are several previous cytomorphological characterizations of SC of salivary gland reported in the literature. The most commonly reported patterns are of epithelial clusters with papillary architectural features, or of single dispersed epithelial cells on a background of abundant histiocytes. Tumor cells exhibit vacuolated eosinophilic cytoplasm and round to oval nuclei with regular nuclear contours and inconspicuous or small nucleoli. The cytomorphology of SC may closely mimic that of acinic cell carcinoma or low-grade mucoepidermoid carcinoma. click here Moreover, when cohesive epithelial clusters do not appear on the smears, it may be very difficult to distinguish dispersed tumor cells from histiocytes. In this article, we review the literature pertaining to SC cytomorphology and we report a fine needle aspiration biopsy case of SC in salivary gland showing well-defined intracytoplasmic hyaline globules, a feature that has not been previously reported. This novel cytomorphological feature may be helpful in distinguishing the tumor cells of SC from histiocytes and from other low-grade salivary gland tumors.
Light chain (AL) amyloidosis is a plasma cell neoplasm associated with high early mortality and severe morbidity that can cause severe disability. We explored the impact of AL amyloidosis on symptoms and well-being from the perspectives of patients and health care providers who regularly care for AL patients. We intended to develop a conceptual understanding of patient-reported outcomes in AL amyloidosis to identify the context of use and concept of interest for a clinical outcome assessments tool in this disease.
Twenty patients and ten professionals were interviewed. Patient interviews captured the spectrum of amyloidosis experience including time from diagnosis, type of organ involvement, and presence and type of treatment received. Interviews with professionals included physicians, advanced practice providers, registered nurse, and a patient advocate; these interviews covered similar topics.
The impact of AL amyloidosis on patients' life was multidimensional, with highly subjective perceptions of normality and meaning. Four major themes from patients and experts included diagnosis of AL amyloidosis, living with AL amyloidosis, symptom burden, and social roles. Barriers to patient-reported outcomes data collection in patients were additionally explored from experts. The themes provide a comprehensive understanding of the important experiences of symptom burden and its impact on daily life from AL amyloidosis patients' and from the perspectives of professionals who care for patients with AL amyloidosis.
These findings further the conceptual understanding and identification of a preliminary model of concept of interest for development of a clinical outcome assessments tool for AL amyloidosis.

Whether the social asymmetry observed in the occurrence of contagious yawning is related to social and emotional attachment and may therefore reflect emotional contagion is a subject of debate. In this study we assessed whether yawn contagion was enhanced in pregnant women, a cohort of subjects who develop prenatal emotional attachment in preparation for parental care, via hormonal and neurobiological changes. We predicted that if yawn contagion underlies social and emotional attachment, pregnant women would be more likely to contagiously yawn than nonpregnant, nulliparous women of reproductive age. We gathered data in two different settings. In the experimental setting, 49 women were exposed to video stimuli of newborns either yawning or moving their mouth (control) and we video-recorded the women during repeated trials to measure their yawning response.
