Overall, these data demonstrate that DBP induces allergic airway inflammation in rats via inhibition of the Nrf2/TSLP/JAK1 pathway. This study was designed to evaluate the sensitivities of diverse cell lines on DNA damage effects and genotoxic effects of three brominated flame retardants (BFRs) and three metal ions (Cu2+, Cd2+, Hg2+) by comet assay. First, THP-1 was identified as the most sensitive cell line in terms of DNA damage among 11 kinds of cells screened. Accordingly, the THP-1 cell line was used as a model in subsequent single/combined genotoxicity tests. Single exposure tests to BFRs or metal ions revealed that the DNA damage effects increased with increasing exposure concentration. In combined exposure tests, BFRs (at concentrations of 1/2 EC50) were deployed in combination with different concentrations of Cu2+, Cd2+, or Hg2+. The results showed that the % tail DNA values were significantly increased by most mixtures. Our findings on combined toxic effects by comet assay provide valuable information for setting valid environmental safety evaluation standards.Although macrophytes are known to play vital roles in aquatic ecosystems, most quantitative aquatic toxicity data focus on fishes, water fleas, or algae, with limited ecotoxicity data published on macrophytes. Salvinia natans is a fast-growing plant commonly found in freshwater habitats. In this study, we verified a suitable disinfectant for preventing foreign contamination and formulated a culture medium for ensuring high productivity of S. natans. Finally, we established methodology for S. natans to be used in ecotoxicity testing of heavy metals and pesticides. As global regulations are being developed to harmonize guidelines and laboratory test species, S. natans is emerging as a potential candidate. The toxicity data publicly available for S. natans are very limited; hence, this study reports an advantageous culturing technique to optimize healthy growth of this species in the laboratory and presents optimal toxicity results, achieved by modifying the currently available test guidelines for Lemna. Our findings expand the currently limited range of test species for aquatic toxicity assays. We conclude that S. natans could serve as a valuable test species for aquatic toxicity assays.

Emerging experimental evidence indicates that organophosphate esters (OPEs) can trigger glucose metabolic disorders. However, human evidence, especially in adolescents, is unavailable.

We utilized data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2011-2014 to evaluate whether urinary OPEs metabolites were associated with prediabetes and glucose homeostasis.

A total of 349 adolescents (12-19-year old) who provided at least 8h fasting blood samples, had urinary OPEs metabolites detected were included. Prediabetes was defined according to the levels of fasting plasma glucose (FPG), 2-h post oral plasma glucose (2h-OGTT) and glycated hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c). The homeostatic model assessment (HOMA-IR) and the Single Point Insulin Sensitivity Estimator (SPISE) were used to assess insulin resistance and sensitivity, respectively. Multiple binary logistic and linear regressions were used to evaluate the associations with prediabetes and indices of glucose homeostasis. The least absolute shrinkage an FPG, 2h-OGTT, fasting insulin and HOMA-IR.

Urinary OPEs metabolites were associated with prediabetes and indices of glucose homeostasis in adolescents. But such associations varied by sex. Future studies with multiple measurements of OPEs exposure are needed to confirm our findings.

Determining the impact of sertraline on benthic microbial ecosystems is important for the transformation of river biogenic elements. However, the molecular initiating event induced by sertraline is more readily observed at higher levels, such as the individual or population level of larger organisms, and the effect is not pronounced in benthic organisms, which are directly involved in nitrogen transformation. Therefore, this study used DNA metabarcoding to analyze the effect of sertraline on the microbial ecosystem and material cycles in river sediment through the lens of a microbial food web. The presence of sertraline in the river sediment enhanced the mineralization capacity of nitrogen and increased the accumulation of nitrate in the sediment. Sertraline affected the structure of the microbial food web by stimulating different successions of bacteria and eukaryotes. A structural equation model revealed that sertraline affected the microbial food web model through top-down forces (predation) by reducing the trophic transfer efficiency from metazoans to protozoans. This effect resulted in decreases in the trophic transfer efficiency from protozoans to bacteria and increases in nitrogen mineralization capacity. This was followed by a gradual increase in the nitrification reaction under the action of nitrifying bacteria, increasing the threat to the ecological health of rivers. Selleckchem MEK162 The results show that sertraline affects the material cycle of river ecosystems and emphasizes that the assessment of the ecological risks of sertraline needs to be considered from the perspective of the material cycle of ecosystems.Despite the strong ability for complexation of heavy metals, a high amount of humic substances (HS) is always contained in membrane retentate from municipal solid waste landfill leachates treatment processes. Submerged Combustion Evaporation (SCE) can be used to effectively concentrate the membrane retentate. However, the impact of the SCE treatment on HS complexation capacity is still unclear. Since cadmium (Cd) plays a vital role in the pollution of soil and food, this study investigated the influence of the SCE treatment on the Cd complexation potential of leachate HS. Specific effects and complexation properties on Cd complexation of leachate HS before and after the SCE treatment were demonstrated using the Non-Ideal Competitive Adsorption model. The results showed that the Cd complexation capacity of carboxyl sites increased from 3.76 to 4.65 mol/kg-Total Organic Carbon (TOC) after the SCE treatment, which agreed with the stoichiometric number of proton binding sites. Moreover, characterization results indicated that SCE increased the affinity of HS for Cd by enhancing the overall aromaticity of HS (E2E4 from 9.
