Inc.The dense formation of abnormal scar tissue after total knee arthroplasty results in arthrofibrosis, an unfortunate sequela of inflammation. The purpose of this study was to use a validated rabbit model to assess the effects on surgically-induced knee joint contractures of two combined pharmacological interventions celecoxib (CXB) loaded on an implanted collagen membrane, and subcutaneously (SQ) injected ketotifen. Thirty rabbits were randomly divided into five groups. The first group received no intervention after the index surgery. The remaining four groups underwent intra-articular implantation of collagen membranes loaded with or without CXB at the time of the index surgery; two of which were also treated with SQ ketotifen. Biomechanical joint contracture data were collected at 8, 10, 16, and 24 weeks. At the time of necropsy (24 weeks), posterior capsule tissue was collected for messenger RNA and histopathologic analyses. At 24 weeks, there was a statistically significant increase in passive extension am life for patients with this debilitating condition. © 2020 Orthopaedic Research Society. To investigate whether HLHS incident rates in Poland are seasonally variable. METHODS Data on 791 cases of HLHS from the Registry collected between 2004 and 2016 was analyzed. RESULTS The median gestational age for the 734 cases of HLHS detected was 23 weeks. Comparing the age at time of HLHS detection between 2004 and 2016, a decrease from 26 to 20.8 weeks was observed. We noted a rapid increase in HLHS incidence during the initial years of the Registry data, the annual percentage change during that period was 22.0% and this trend lasted until 2010. In the following years, the Registry became representative of the general population which has an estimated incidence of HLHS of 20.93 cases per 100 000 live births. We observed no clear seasonal patterns of HLHS incidence in our population. CONCLUSION The Registry reached a plateau state in terms of diagnosing new cases of HLHS. No evidence of seasonality has been noted. The average gestational age of patients identified as having HLHS decreased significantly during the study period. © 2020 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.BACKGROUND The safety and efficacy of the leadless pacemaker (LP) have been confirmed in previous reports, yet studies on LPs in superelderly patients are limited. METHODS AND RESULTS A total of 62 patients aged over 85 years old were implanted with single-chamber pacemakers due to symptomatic bradyarrhythmia at Sakakibara Heart Institute from May 2014 through July 2019. We divided them into two groups, a transvenous (TV) single-chamber pacemaker group (35 patients) and an LP group (27 patients), and compared the groups. Mean participant age was 90.3 ± 3.8 y.o., 41.9% were male, and mean participant body mass index (BMI) was 21.3 kg/m2 . The LP group contained a significantly larger proportion of patients with dementia than the TV group did (63% vs. 37.1%, P = .04). The complication-free rate tended to be lower in the LP group in spite of the higher frequency of dementia (88.6% vs. 92.6%, P = .68). At implantation, the pacing threshold was significantly higher in the LP group than in the TV group (1.30 ± 0.91 V vs. 0.71 ± 0.23 V, P less then .01), but over the first 3 months after the operation the pacing threshold in the LP group gradually improved (0.82 ± 0.2 V vs. 1.05 ± 1.02 V, P = .16). The procedure time and time from operation to discharge were also shorter in the LP group. CONCLUSIONS LP implantation appears to be safe and is accordingly becoming the cornerstone for Japanese superelderly patients indicated for single-chamber pacemakers, even for those with small bodies and dementia. However, careful procedures and long follow-ups are needed until a greater volume of data is reported. © 2020 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.Solution combustion synthesis (SCS) has been widely used to produce simple and complex oxides with a desired morphology (size and shape). SCS is valuable due to low cost, simplicity and energy efficiency synthesis. To guarantee the best molecular-level mixing of reactants in an aqueous or solvent-based solution some parameters need to be controlled, such as fuel type, metal cations precursors, stoichiometry ratio (ɸ), pH effect, atmosphere and initiation type. These determine the final properties of the oxide materials, having the potentiality to reach different morphologies, which are essential for their final applications. This review focuses on the crucial parameters in SCS and how these affect the overall materials properties from nanostructures to thin films. To finalize, special attention is given to the application of SCS to form metal oxide thin films at low temperature and their application in thin film transistors (TFTs). © 2020 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Here, we report a case of peripheral odontoma in a pediatric patient and review the cases published in the literature. An 11-year-old male patient presented a nodular lesion in the anterior region of the palate for over one year. find more Under the clinical hypothesis of fibroma, an excisional biopsy was performed. Histopathological examination revealed the presence of tooth-like structures, formed by enamel, and dentin matrix, occasionally associated with the dental papilla and surrounding pulp tissue, thus, the histopathological diagnosis of peripheral odontoma was established. The patient has been undergoing follow-up for 6 months without any signs of lesion recurrence. Peripheral odontomas are uncommon lesions that usually affect young patients and display a preference for the maxilla and limited growth potential. The recognition of the clinical and histopathological features of the peripheral odontoma is indispensable for the establishment of its diagnosis. This article is protected by copyright.
