Complete decomposition of silicate rock matrices is crucial in determining their isotopic compositions, but acid dissolution in a high-pressure steel-jacketed bomb, which has been the only powerful, effective technique thus far, is time-consuming and expensive. Rock dissolution using ammonium bifluoride (ABF), as described here, is a viable alternative.

Geological reference materials (GRMs) were digested using ABF in closed Teflon beakers at temperatures of 220/230°C in a convection oven and subsequently treated with HNO

. Z-VAD-FMK cell line Hf-Sr-Nd were separated and purified using ion-exchange chemistry columns calibrated for 50-2mg samples. The isotopic compositions of Sr-Nd were measured by Thermal Ionization Mass Spectrometry, while that of Hf by Multi-Collector Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry, both with normal 10

 Ω amplifiers.

Total procedural blanks of our protocol are 0.5ng for Sr, 0.2ng for Nd and <25 pg for Hf. link2 Test runs with GRMs, ranging in composition from basic to felsic and dissolved in ABF, yield accurate

Hf isotope ratios as compared with those obtained with the bomb dissolution technique. Reproducibilities were comparable, on the order of 10-20 ppm. Our technique allows combined Hf-Sr-Nd isotope analyses of low-mass (50-2mg) samples.

The ABF digestion is an alternative technique to high-pressure bomb dissolution in matrix decomposition for accurate and reproducible Hf-Nd-Sr isotope analyses of geological samples within a reasonable time (3-4days), with high sample throughput and low costs in geochemistry and environmental sciences.

Although changes in skin depend on the external environment, researchers have performed only a few studies on effect of the actual environment. Most studies have researched skin characterization based on changes in the humidity or temperature.

This study aimed to evaluate changes in the skin based on the difference in indoor and outdoor temperatures and humidity during summer in South Korea and Southeast Asia.

Twenty-two female participants aged 25-39years were included. Skin hydration, sebum (cheek, forehead), colour, transparency and pores of the participants were measured after a 30-min exposure to high temperature and high humidity (HTHH) environment and a 30-min exposure to low temperature and low humidity (LTLH) environment. link3 Subsequently, exposure to HTHH environment for 30min +LTLH environment for 30min was performed after a total of 1h and repeated.

Repeated exposure to HTHH and LTLH environments increased the skin's sebum content and haemoglobin index. Additionally, skin elasticity was significantly reduced, with patients in their 30s showing greater changes than those in their 20s.

Repeated differences in temperature and humidity cause skin ageing, loosen skin vessels and reduce skin elasticity, thereby leading to skin ageing.

However, research has yet to examine relationships between aggression and dimensional psychopathology models that cut across diagnostic boundaries (e.g., internalizing, externalizing composites) and capture shared liability across common disorders. The role of gender has also been largely ignored in prior work, despite evidence that men and women manifest psychopathology differently. The present study examined cross-sectional and longitudinal relationships between psychopathology composites (i.e., Internalizing, Externalizing) and different manifestations of physical aggression (i.e., aggressive traits, general violence, physical intimate partner violence, and self-directed aggression), as well as moderation by gender. Internalizing (INT) and Externalizing (EXT) lifetime symptoms and various physically aggressive behaviors were assessed at baseline and at 6 months and 1 year follow up in a sample of 319 adults with violence and/or substance use histories. Cross-sectional results showed that INT was associated with all forms of aggression, and women showed stronger relationships between INT and both physical intimate partner violence (IPV) and self-directed aggression. EXT was specifically linked to general violence, and a stronger relationship between EXT and self-directed aggression emerged in men compared to women. Longitudinal relationships were mostly small and nonsignificant. Results support the co-occurrence of aggression with distinct forms of psychopathology, as well as gender-dependent relationships, but do not support the predictive validity of symptom composites in aggression risk. Findings implicate the need for aggression interventions tailored within gender. We report a case of a 9-month-old boy with supracardiac total anomalous pulmonary venous connection showing a small aberrant vessel arising from the right pulmonary artery and traversing below the left main bronchus to supply the anteromedial segment of the left lower lobe.Notch signaling pathway plays crucial roles in progression of colorectal cancer (CRC), likely affecting overall survival (OS). In a two-stage survival analysis of 1116 CRC patients in East China, we found that one locus at MINAR1 out of 133 genes in the Notch signaling pathway was significantly associated with OS (P G were correlated with increased MINAR1 expression levels in both blood cells and colon tissues. Dual luciferase assays revealed that the rs72430409 A allele increased MINAR1 promoter activity. The Cancer Genome Atlas data showed that expression levels of MINAR1 in CRC samples were significantly higher than that in normal colorectal tissue and that high expression of MINAR1 was associated with a shortened OS, likely via activating the epithelial mesenchymal transition (EMT) pathway as shown in the gene-set enrichment analysis. In vitro, RNAi-mediated silencing of MINAR1 led to decreased migration and proliferation in CRC cancer cells, and MINAR1 silencing could downregulate the expression of key effector genes in EMT and glycolysis. Larger cohort studies and further experiments are needed to validate our findings.Recently, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) variants (B.1.1.7 and B.1351) have emerged harbouring mutations that make them highly contagious. The N501Y mutation within the receptor-binding domain (RBD) of the spike protein of these SARS-CoV-2 variants may enhance binding to the human angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (hACE2). However, no molecular explanation for such an enhanced affinity has so far been provided. Here, using all-atom molecular dynamics simulations, we show that Y501 in the mutated RBD can be well-coordinated by Y41 and K353 in hACE2 through hydrophobic interactions, which may increase the overall binding affinity of the RBD for hACE2 by approximately 0.81 kcal·mol-1 . The binding dynamics revealed in our study may provide a working model to facilitate the design of more effective antibodies.Age-adjusted rates are frequently used by epidemiologists to compare disease incidence and mortality across populations. In small geographic regions, age-adjusted rates computed directly from the data are subject to considerable variability and are generally unreliable. Therefore, we desire an approach that accounts for the excessive number of zero counts in disease mapping datasets, which are naturally present for low-prevalence diseases and are further innated when stratifying by age group. Bayesian modeling approaches are naturally suited to employ spatial and temporal smoothing to produce more stable estimates of age-adjusted rates for small areas. We propose a Bayesian hierarchical spatio-temporal hurdle model for counts and demonstrate how age-adjusted rates can be estimated from the hurdle model. We perform a simulation study to evaluate the performance of the proposed model vs a traditional Poisson model on datasets with varying characteristics. The approach is illustrated using two applications to cancer mortality at the county level.

To determine whether vertically integrated hospital and skilled nursing facility (SNF) care is associated with more efficient use of postdischarge care and better outcomes.

Medicare provider, beneficiary, and claims data from 2012 to 2014.

We compared facility characteristics, quality of care, and health care use for hospital-based SNFs and "virtually integrated" SNFs (defined as freestanding SNFs with close referral relationships with a single hospital) relative to nonintegrated freestanding SNFs. Among patients admitted to integrated SNFs, we estimated differences in health care use and outcomes for patients originating from the parent hospital (ie, receiving vertically integrated care) versus other hospitals using linear regressions that included SNF fixed effects. We estimated bounds for our main estimates that incorporated potential omitted variables bias.

We identified hospital-based SNFs based on provider data. We defined virtually integrated SNFs based on patient flows between hospitals and SN, there were few beneficial associations with other outcomes, suggesting limited coordination benefits from vertical integration.

Vertically integrated hospital and SNF care was associated with shorter hospital and SNF stays. However, there were few beneficial associations with other outcomes, suggesting limited coordination benefits from vertical integration.

Rapid point-of-care (POC) detection of Streptococcus equi subsp. equi (S. equi) would theoretically reduce the spread of strangles by identifying index and carrier horses.

That the eqbE isothermal amplification (LAMP) assay, and the same eqbE LAMP assay tested in a microfluidic device format, are comparable to a triplex real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) assay that is commonly used in diagnostic labs.

Sixty-eight guttural pouch lavage (GPL) specimens from horses recovering from strangles.

Guttural pouch lavage specimens were tested for S. equi retrospectively using the benchtop eqbE LAMP, the eqbE LAMP microfluidic device, and compared to the triplex qPCR, that detects 2 S. equi-specific genes, eqbE and SEQ2190, as the reference standard using the receiver operating characteristic area under the curve (ROC).

The 27/68 specimens were positive by benchtop eqbE LAMP, 31/64 by eqbE LAMP microfluidic device, and 12/67 by triplex qPCR. Using the triplex PCR as the reference, the benchtop eqbE LAMP showed excellent discrimination (ROC Area = 0.813, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.711-0.915) as did the LAMP microfluidic device (ROC Area = 0.811, 95% CI = 0.529-0.782). There was no significant difference between the benchtop LAMP and LAMP microfluidic device (ROC Area 0.813 ± 0.055 vs 0.811 ± 0.034, P = .97).

The eqbE LAMP microfluidic device detected S. equi in GPL specimens from convalescent horses. This assay shows potential for development as a POC device for rapid, sensitive, accurate, and cost-efficient detection of S. equi.
