Several studies have shown that the warm water bath can be a beneficial approach in the management of fatigue. This experimental study was conducted to evaluate the effect of warm salt water foot bath in the management of chemotherapy-induced fatigue.

This randomized controlled trial was perfomed between November 2017-February 2018. Seventy five patients who experienced moderate or higher level chemotherapy related fatigue were randomly assigned to the intervention or control group. A training booklet about chemotherapy-induced fatigue was given to all patients. In addition, the experimental group performed 20min warm salt water footbath for a week. The primary outcome was the change in fatigue level over 7 days after chemotherapy. The secondary outcome was the difference in physical, affective, emotional, and cognitive fatigue scores of patients.

The level of fatigue was grade 2 and grade 3 for 65.3% and 33.3% of patients, respectively. There was no statistically significant difference between groups regarding the mean of total fatigue score before and after bath (p>0.05). However, the amount of decrease observed in the experimental group was found to be statistically significantly higher than the control group (p=0.012; p<0.05). In addition; the score in behavioral/severity, sensory, affective and cognitive dimensions related to fatigue decreased in the experimental group but did not decrease in the control group.

This study shown that warm salt water footbath can be an effective approach in enhancing fatigue related quality of life cancer patients. More studies should be conducted to assess the effectiveness of this intervention.

The study aims to develop a novel, inexpensive, rapid, and resource-saving maceration technique that does not lead to bone surface changes and allows the study of signs of violence on the bone surface. Pig ribs and femurs were covered in aluminum foil and treated in the oven for 5 h at different temperatures with and without detergent. However, the relationship between sleep and physical activity in university students has not yet been evaluated. Therefore, the aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to qualitatively synthesise and quantitatively evaluate the evidence for the association between sleep and physical activity in university students. Twenty-nine eligible studies were included, with a total of 141,035 participants (43% men and 57% women). Only four studies used device-based measures of sleep and/or physical activity, with the remainder including self-report measures. Qualitative synthesis found that the majority of studies did not find any association between sleep and physical activity in university students. However, random-effects meta-analysis showed that moderate-to-high intensity physical activity was associated with lower PSQI scores (e.g., better sleep quality) [r = -0.18, 95% CI (-0.37, 0.03), p = 0.100]. Further, a weak negative association between moderate-to-vigorous physical activity level and sleep duration was also found [r = -0.02, 95% CI (-0.16, 0.12), p = 0.760]. As the findings of this review are predominantly derived from cross-sectional investigations, with limited use of device-based measurement tools, further research is needed to investigate the relationship between sleep and physical activity in university students. Future studies should employ longitudinal designs, with self-report and device-based measures, and consider the intensity and time of physical activity as well as records of napping behaviour.

Although drug treatment courts (DTCs) have demonstrated positive outcomes, participants with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders (CODs) are a high-risk group that often struggle with treatment engagement not previously examined. This pilot study fills this gap by looking at six-month behavioral health and criminal justice outcomes among a hard to engage DTC COD participant sample in two Massachusetts DTCs receiving a wraparound-treatment (Maintaining Independence and Sobriety through Systems Integration, Outreach, and Networking-Criminal Justice - MISSION-CJ).

This replacement brought with it various changes in the legal arrangement for SBDs. In this article, we expound the changes in the legal arrangement and assess the implications of these changes for the practical feasibility of SBDs. We argue that the procedures for arranging compulsory care based on an SBD in the new law are too complex and time-intensive for SBDs to yield their potential benefits. Furthermore, the latest implementations as well as limitations and future perspectives are critically reported.The progressive decarbonisation of industry is leading to a reduction in coal consumption and the substitution for coal with other types of fuels, including waste-derived alternative fuels. These fuels are characterised by high variation in the content of highly toxic mercury. Co-combustion with coal can cause significant emissions, exceeding mercury emission limits. Various alternative fuels (refuse-derived fuel (RDF), waste paper, textiles, plastics, film, tires and their char, and sewage sludge) were examined for mercury content. The mercury content in analysed alternative fuels ranged from 0.4 to 92.0 µg Hg/MJ, with an average of 17.7 µg Hg/MJ. The fuels with the highest mercury content were RDFs (2.0-79.3 µg Hg/MJ) and sewage sludge (42.3-92.0 µg Hg/MJ). An acceptable amount of RDF added to hard coal which would remain within the emission limits was estimated to be 9-24% of the chemical energy in the blend. For sewage sludge, this amount was estimated to be 5-13%. For brown coal, with a much higher mercury content than hard coal, co-combustion with alternative fuels has a positive effect on reducing mercury emissions. It is possible to meet the mercury emission limits with a 95% contribution of the chemical energy coming from RDF. The blending of various types of waste supported by mild pyrolysis of high-mercury waste allows alternative fuels with relatively low mercury content to be produced. Such fuels may contribute a reduction in mercury emissions from coal-fired power plants in Poland.In this work, sulfur recovery from sulfur-rich wastes deriving from sulfur filtration was investigated through laboratory experiments and full-scale tests in an industrial combustion rotary kiln, where elemental sulfur is converted to SO2 in a sulfuric acid production plant. Phase equilibria experiments carried out in the temperature range 1100-1400 °C and industrial scale tests demonstrated that temperature is the most important operating parameter in determining the recovery efficiency and the plant operability. The full-scale tests performed on the rotary kiln showed that, at operating temperatures around 1200 °C, a continuous sulfur recovery from the filter cakes was obtained with an average efficiency of 87% and a consequent reduction of about 70% of the solid waste material to be disposed as inert in landfills or used in cement/glass industries. The efficiency of sulfur recovery increases with the increasing operating temperature but, above 1300 °C, the melting of the residual Ca-Fe-Al-silicate phase and the eventual recrystallization at the kiln refractory walls occurred, causing a forced plant shutdown.
