4 % to 29.2 % (

 = 0.035), and reduction in moderate/severe pain experienced by women, from 38.2 % to 33.6 % (

= 0.043); no significant changes were found in nonparticipating centers. Over 5 years, 20 participating and 18 nonparticipating centers contributed 85 691 and 41 569 colonoscopies, respectively. In participating centers, polyp detection rate increased linearly (

= 0.003), and pain decreased linearly in women (

= 0.004). Nonparticipating centers did not show any significant time trend during the study period.

Participation in a TCT course improved polyp detection rates and reduced pain experienced by women. These effects were maintained during a 5-year follow-up.

Long-term oxygen treatment (LTOT) is frequently used in patients with advanced pulmonary diseases and respiratory failure. Oxygen treatment influences donor lung allocation for patients and is associated with increased mortality. This study investigates oxygen therapy in lung transplantation candidates.

A retrospective study at a large German transplantation centre between 09/2011 and 01/2019 was performed. Data regarding oxygen therapy was analyzed and LTOT-indication verified by titrated blood gas analysis. The study period splits into 2 periods before and after the introduction of oxygen titration (3rd quarter of 2015). Univariate and multivariate analysis for the endpoint "admission to waiting list" was performed.

807 patients were included in the analysis, 396 in the first and 411 patients in the second period. Of those 293 patients (36.3 %) were transplanted. Six hundred thirty (78 %) patients stated using oxygen for more than 12 hours per day. After implementing oxygen titration in period 2, in 212 (57 %) of 372 patients LTOT indication could be confirmed. Titrated oxygen flow was lower in period 2 (0.5 l/min [IQR 0.0 - 2.0] versus 2 l/min [IQR 0.5 - 3.0]). In multivariate analysis oxygen flow was associated with admission to waiting list as an independent variable.

Patients referred to lung transplantation use oxygen therapy in the vast majority. Indication for LTOT should be carefully reassessed in candidates. Confirmed LTOT-indication seems to be associated with the likelihood for admission to the waiting list for lung transplantation and could therefore be a selection criterium in the future.

During lockdown, players could only train at home, with limited evidence regarding the effect of this period. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effect of COVID-19 lockdown on professional soccer players' physical performance. Aerobic fitness and vertical jump were assessed before and after four periods in two different seasons COVID-19 lockdown, competitive period before lockdown, competitive period and summer break of the 2016-2017 season. Linear mixed models were used to examine within-period changes and between-period differences in changes observed during COVID-19 lockdown and the three other periods. Within-period changes in aerobic fitness showed a significant improvement following COVID-19 lockdown (p less then 0.001) and a significant decline during summer break (p less then 0.001). Between-period differences were significant in the comparison of COVID-19 lockdown with both the competitive 2019-2020 season (p less then 0.01) and summer break (p less then 0.001). For the vertical jump, only the between-period comparison revealed significant differences as the changes associated with COVID-19 lockdown were worse than those of the two competitive periods, for both absolute (p less then 0.05; p less then 0.001) and relative peak power (p less then 0.01; p less then 0.001). Home-based training during lockdown was effective to improve aerobic fitness, although it did not allow players to maintain their competitive period's power levels.Basketball is characterized by high-intensity episodes predominantly reliant on anaerobic metabolism. The force-velocity test enables individual determination of an optimal braking force and emerged as appropriate to estimate optimal peak power. alpha-Naphthoflavone nmr It has rarely been used in youth basketball. This study aimed to examine the contribution of body size, composition, and biological maturation to interindividual variation in force-velocity test output among pre-pubertal basketball players. The sample consisted of 64 male participants (8.4-12.3 years). Stature, sitting height, body mass and two skinfolds were measured, and leg length estimated. Fat-free mass and lower limb volume were estimated from anthropometry. Age at peak height velocity was predicted from maturity offset. Optimal peak power was correlated with all body size descriptors (correlation 0.541-0.700). Simple allometric models explained 30-47% of inter-individual variance, with fat-free mass being the best predictor of performance. Whole-body fat-free mass (as a surrogate for active muscle mass) plus the indicator of maturation emerged as the best proportional allometric model (53% explained variance). Even at pre-pubertal ages, the interpretation of the force-velocity test requires assessing the metabolically active component of body mass. The body composition phenotype of an athlete displays the complex interaction among genotype, physiological and metabolic demands of a sport, diet, and physical training. Observational studies dominate the literature and describe the sport-specific physique characteristics (size, shape, and composition) of adult athletes by gender and levels of competition. Limited data reveal how body composition measurements can benefit an athlete. Thus, the objective is to identify purposeful measurements of body composition, notably fat and lean muscle masses, and determine their impact on the health and performance of athletes. Areas of interest include relationships among total and regional body composition measurements, muscle function, sport-specific performance, risk of injury, return to sport after injury, and identification of activity-induced fluid shifts. Discussion includes the application of specific uses of dual X-ray absorptiometry and bioelectrical impedance including an emphasis on the need to minimize measurement errors and standardize protocols, and highlights opportunities for future research.
