The use of physiotherapy in therapy of an oncological patient may reduce the risk of appearance of unwanted complications and bring relief during and after treatment. During rehabilitation the physiotherapist can use various methods, including classic massage, interactive video games, dance, neuromobilization, cycling, jogging or Graded Motor Imagery. CONCLUSIONS Physical activity undertaken by children with each type of cancer during and shortly after treatment has a positive effect on the development of all motor skills, without increasing the risk of death. No adverse effects have been observed. The physiotherapist in the rehabilitation process focuses mainly on improving the quality of motor skills, gait pattern, reducing pain and training of basic everyday activities. However, there is still a lack of a consistent protocol for assessing physical activity in young patients with cancer. © 2020 MEDPRESS.Thyroid hormones regulate numerous metabolic processes. Therefore, any alteration in their synthesis or function has important health implications. However, limited data are available regarding the relationship between thyroid hormone imbalance and periodontal health. AIM The aim of the study was to perform a comparative analysis of qualitative and quantitative structure of oral microbiocenosis in rats with comorbidity-free periodontitis and in animals with periodontitis in a setting of hyper- and hypothyroidism. MATERIALS AND METHODS Inbred white male rats (n=48) were randomly divided into the following groups I - control animals, II - animals with a model of periodontitis, III - rats with periodontitis in a setting of hyperthyroidism, IV - rats with periodontitis in a setting of hypothyroidism. Samples for microbiological investigations were taken from dental surfaces (on the border between hard tissue and gums in the interdental spaces). The isolated pure cultures were identified by their morphological, tiocenosis in case of experimental periodontitis. © 2020 MEDPRESS.Over 3 mln people in Poland suffer from diabetes out of which 1/3 are undiagnosed. Diabetes is a metabolic disease characterized by the chronic hyperglycaemia resulting from disturbances in insulin secretion and tissue resistance to its action. The most serious clinical problem in the diabetics is periodontal disease since hyperglycaemia influences the disturbance of the immune response and increases the number of periopathogens. AIM The aim of the study was an assessment of the oral health in patients with type 2 diabetes. MATERIALS AND METHODS The study was conducted in the group of 450 people who reported to the selected specialist medical centers at the Rural Medicine Institute. Adult patients from Lublin macroregion were referred to the Department. 153 people among the studied were Diabetic Clinic patients with type 2 diabetes The assessment of the oral health was carried out on the basis of clinical examination included DMFt - the number of teeth with decay (D), the number of teeth removed because of tooth decay (M) or filled (F), index and masticatory function loss index (t). The results are summarized in tables and subjected to statistical analysis. A non- parametric Kruskall-Wallis test was used. RESULTS In the group up to 34 years of age the number of extracted teeth was higher in healthy people. The index of masticatory function loss below 100% was higher in the diabetic patients. CONCLUSIONS Diabetic outpatient clinic patients should receive special dental care and frequent check-ups. © 2020 MEDPRESS.AIM The aim of the study was analyses the relationship between oral health and acute coronary syndrome confirmed by coronary angiography. MATERIALS AND METHODS The participants were recruited from patients who had undergone coronary angiography in the Cardiology Department. The study included 128 patients 68 in a study group - with acute coronary syndrome (ACS-group) and 60 in a control group - no changes in coronary vessels detected by coronary angiography (H-group). A detailed clinical dental examination was performed. selleck chemicals llc The following symptoms of periodontal pathologies were assessed gingival bleeding, tooth mobility, gingival swelling, changes in gingival colour, a burning sensation in the oral mucosa, the presence of pus, and the need for antibiotic therapy. Moreover, the patients' oral health was assessed on the basis of the following dental indices Plaque Index (PlI), Approximal Plaque Index (API), their periodontal health on the basis of the following indices - Gingival Index (GI), Community Periodontal Index of Treatment Needs (CPITN), and their dental health on the basis of the following components of the DMF-T index (D-T) - decayed, missing and filled teeth, (F-T) - filled teeth and (M-T) - missing teeth. RESULTS Oral health in the study group was worse to a degree that was statistically significant in all the indices examined, excluding the filled teeth index (F-T), where there was no statistical significance compared to the control group. CONCLUSIONS The oral health of patients from the ACS group was significantly worse compared to the H-group. © 2020 MEDPRESS.Atopic dermatitis is one of the most common inflammatory dermatoses in children and adults. To date, no clear relationship between the severity of AD and the exposure to dog and guinea pig-derived allergens has been established. AIM The aim of the study was to assess the association between the specific serum immunoglobulin E levels (against dog and guinea pig) and the grade of skin symptoms measured with the SCORAD and VAS scales in the population of adult patients suffering from atopic dermatitis. MATERIALS AND METHODS The study was performed in the group of 47 patients suffering from atopic dermatitis since infancy (30 women and 17 men). Concentration of IgE was measured by the fluoroenzymatic immunoassay. The Mann-Whitney's test was used to compare the distribution of specific IgE concentration and the distribution of atopic dermatitis grade. RESULTS The statistically significant correlation between SCORAD and VAS scales, and the measured specific IgE concentrations for investigated fur animals was found.
