To determine whether telephone and face-to-face primary care consultation rates, costs, and temporal trends during 2000 to 2018 differed by the number of comorbidities in people with type 2 diabetes (T2DM).

A total of 120 409 adults with newly diagnosed T2DM between 2000 and 2018 were classified by the number of prevalent and incident comorbidities. Data on face-to-face and telephone primary care consultations with a nurse or physician were obtained. Crude and sex- and age-adjusted annual consultation rates and associated costs were calculated based on the number of comorbidities at the time of consultation.

Through a comparative analysis of Ribo-seq data from Saccharomyces cerevisiae, we systematically identify short 3-codon sequences that are differentially translated (DT) across mRNAs, that is, identical sequences that are translated sometimes fast and sometimes slowly beyond what can be attributed to variability between experiments. Remarkably, the thus identified DT sequences link to mechanisms known to regulate translation elongation and are enriched in genes important for protein and organelle biosynthesis. Our results thus highlight examples of translational heterogeneity that are encoded in the genomic sequences and tuned to optimizing cellular homeostasis. A parallel-group, randomized controlled trial was undertaken between 1 January 2018 and 31 August 2019. Forty patients undergoing colorectal surgery for malignancy were allocated equally to Sham and Active stimulation groups. Electrical vagus nerve stimulation was self-administered bilaterally over the cervical surface landmarks for 5days before and after surgery. Outcomes of interest were postoperative complications and adverse events measured using the Clavien-Dindo scale, treatment compliance, device usability according to the Systems Usability Scale (SUS) and clinical measures of bowel recovery.

Forty patients were randomized and one withdrew, leaving 39 for analysis. Postoperative complications occurred in 9/19 (47.4%) participants receiving Sham and 11/20 (55.0%) receiving Active stimulation and were mostly minor. Compliance with treatment before surgery was 4.7±0.9days out of 5days in the Sham group and 4.7±1.1 in the Active group. Compliance with treatment after surgery was 4.1±1.1 and 4.4±1.5, respectively. Participants considered the intervention to be 'acceptable' according to the SUS. The most prominent differences in bowel recovery were days to first flatus (2.35±1.32 vs 1.65±0.88) and tolerance of solid diet (2.18±2.21 vs 1.75±0.91) for Sham and Active groups, respectively.

The FACE-Q Craniofacial Module for children and young adults is a patient-reported outcome measure (PROM) designed to measure outcomes for patients aged 8 to 29years with facial conditions. The aim of this study was to establish content validity of a relevant subset of the module for its use in orthodontic patients with malocclusion.

Experts in orthodontics were emailed and invited to provide feedback through a Research Electronic Data Capture survey. Patient feedback was obtained through cognitive interviews with patients aged 8 to 29years recruited from a university-based orthodontic clinic in Canada.

Expert opinion and patient interviews were used to obtain feedback on the content of 4 appearance (face, smile, teeth and jaws) and 1 function (eating and drinking) scales hypothesized to be relevant to orthodontic malocclusions, and to elicit new concepts. Interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed, and coded using a line-by-line approach.

Twenty-one experts and 15 patients participated. Expert feedback led us to drop 9, retain 40, revise 4 and add 16 new items. At the conclusion of cognitive interviews no items were dropped, 55 were retained, 5 were revised and 8 new items were added. The final set of 68 items demonstrated content validity for orthodontic patients.
