Older adults vary in their safe and unsafe sexual behaviors. While researchers are beginning to understand more about the sexual and intimate expression of older adults, only recently are they beginning to understand how older adults make decisions about sexual risk. Bandura's social cognitive theory offers a frame for understanding how self-efficacy, environmental factors, and goal motivation are related to sexual risk behaviors for older adults, including the interplay between these variables.

Using a diverse sample of older adults (

= 720) age 50+years, social cognitive theory was modeled to determine the relationship between environment variables (age, gender, and sexual health conversations with practitioners), behavioral variables (self-efficacy), and cognitive variables (importance of sexual wellness goals) with the outcome variable of sexual risk behaviors.

Self-efficacy had an indirect effect on sexual risk via sexual wellness goal motivation. Healthcare provider conversations had both direct and indirect effects on older adults' sexual risk through sexual wellness goal motivation. Models were similarly predictive for older men and women.

Sexual risk behaviors among older adults are more influenced by environmental factors in their healthcare settings and their perception and prioritization of sexual wellness goals.

A total of 32 men (age = 21-26 years) were randomly assigned to the intervention group (n = 18) and control group (n = 14). check details Participants in the intervention group performed EMS to stimulate the bilateral lower limb muscle for four weeks (20 min/3 days/week). The control group received no EMS intervention. To understand the effects of EMS, the following measurements were made at baseline and four weeks knee extension torque, muscle mass, and spatial distribution of neuromuscular activation during a target torques [10%, 30%, 50%, and 70% of the maximal voluntary contraction (MVC)] using multi-channel SEMG. The knee extension torque was significantly increased in intervention group compared with control group (p  less then  0.0001). However, the muscle mass did not show a significant difference between pre and post intervention in each group. The muscle activation patterns of 50% and 70% MVC task showed significant enhancement between baseline and four weeks in the intervention group. Previously, our group reported on the stemness and multi-lineage differentiation potential of EMSCs on gels. However, the exploration of EMSCs in 3 D printing and then evaluation of the growth and neuronal differentiation of EMSCs on extruded 3 D printable hybrid hydrogels has not been reported. Therefore, the current study explored the novel hybrid Sodium alginate-Matrigel (SA-MA) hydrogel extruded 3 D printing to design an in vitro scaffold to promote the differentiation and growth of EMSCs. In addition, the physical properties of the hydrogel were characterized and its drug-releasing property determined. Notably, the results showed that the construct exhibited a sustain-released effect of growth factor BDNF in accordance with the Higuchi equation. Five compositions of Ta-MBG, with x mol% Ta2O5 added to the glass series (80-x)SiO2-15CaO-5P2O5-xTa2O5 where x=0 (0Ta), x=0.5 (0.5Ta), x=1 (1Ta), x=5 (5Ta), and x=10 (10Ta) mol%, were synthesised. The hemostatic potential of all the Ta-MBGs was confirmed by their negative zeta potential (-23 to -31 mV), which enhances the intrinsic pathway of blood coagulation. The hemolysis percentages of all Ta-MBGs except 10Ta showed statistically significant reductions compared to the same experiments carried out both in the absence of a sample ('no treatment' group) and in the presence of 10Ta. These observations validate the consideration of Ta-MBGs as hemostatic agents as they do not cause significant lysis of red blood cells. Cytotoxicity analysis revealed that Ta-MBGs had no effect on bovine fibroblast viability. Furthermore, a reduction in both APTT (a test to evaluate the intrinsic pathway of coagulation) and PT (a test to evaluate the extrinsic pathway) signified enhancement of hemostasis 5Ta caused a significant reduction in APTT compared to 'no treatment', 1Ta and 10Ta and a significant reduction in PT compared to 0Ta. We thus compared the bone regeneration potential of nanostructured sponges (NS-Sponge) with that of collagen-stabilized inorganic bovine bones (BO-Collagen), gelatin sponges (Gelatin), and blood clots (Cont) in sinus augmentation of rabbits. NS-Sponge was prepared by thermally induced phase separation with porogen leaching techniques. All the materials were non-hemolytic and cytocompatible. The porous and nanofibrous NS-Sponge showed better dimensional stability to support cell growth and osteogenic differentiation. In vivo, the sinus membrane collapsed in Cont and Gelatin, while BO-Collagen and NS-Sponge maintained the elevated height as assessed by come-beam computed tomography. Limited bone regeneration was observed in Cont and Gelatin. In the entire implanted area, histological analysis revealed a higher percentage of new bone area at 4 weeks of BO-Collagen treatment; however, a significantly greater increase in new bone area was observed after 12 weeks of NS-Sponge treatment. The 12-week remnant NS-Sponge material was significantly lower than the 4-week remnant material. Overall, NS-Sponge may be highly recommended for sinus augmentation, as it exhibits numerous advantages, including excellent operability, clear imaging characteristics, space maintenance, biodegradability, and superior osteogenic potential.This commentary provides an overview and links to presentations of a recent virtual congress series organized by the International Society for Vaccines (ISV) focused on COVID-19 vaccines. The series provided the academic community and vaccine developers as well as the wider general public with balanced information of the global response and resources for COVID-19 vaccines under development featuring 1) NGOs and the regulatory perspective, 2) the status of vaccine development efforts, and 3) panel discussions to present and discuss challenges. ISV is a non-profit scientific organization whose members work on all areas relevant to vaccines. ISV plans to host additional virtual symposia including regional meetings and incorporating other topics along with COVID-19 vaccines.

To study the clinical presentation, disease characteristics, and management approach for children with thyroid eye disease (TED) over a 10 year period in a multidisciplinary Paediatric Thyroid Eye Disease Clinic at a tertiary care referral center.

Retrospective case series of patients with TED at Kandang Kerbau Women's and Children's Hospital (KKWCH) Singapore between August 2006 to June 2015. The diagnosis of TED was clinical based on the Bartley criteria. Ophthalmic examination findings, systemic thyroid function and ophthalmological intervention were recorded.

Nineteen subjects with pediatric TED were studied. The median age at diagnosis was 12.5years (range 6-17). The onset of TED was at the same time as their thyroid disease in half of these patients (52.6%) of which all were hyperthyroid except one. The most common signs at TED diagnosis were proptosis (84.2%), lid retraction (63.2%), acquired epiblepharon (63.2%). All patients were inactive and none had evidence of compressive optic neuropathy. TED remained stable in all patients except for one who developed worsening proptosis with exposure keratopathy. No patients were prescribed steroids (oral or intravenous) or had orbital decompression surgery. The most debilitating morbidity was acquired epiblepharon of which out of 12 patients, one had everting sutures and three were offered surgical correction.

Paediatric TED subjects exhibit milder clinical manifestations compared to adults. Acquired epiblepharon causes most significant visual morbidity by compromising the corneal surface. Being cognizant of the subtleties of pediatric TED will permit the discerning clinician to effectively manage such cases accordingly.
