A sedentary lifestyle is deeply rooted in the European population, mainly in the elderly. This experimental study analyzed the impact of WB-EMS on the physical fitness of postmenopausal women. Thirty-four healthy sedentary women between 55 and 69 years followed an experimental design pre-post-test. Both groups conducted a ten-week aerobic and strength training program. The experimental group overlaid the WB-EMS during exercise. At the end of the intervention, both groups improved upper and lower body strength, lower extremity flexibility, agility, and speed levels (pBonferroni less then 0.05). Significant interactions were observed at upper and lower body strength, agility, speed, and cardiovascular endurance (p less then 0.05). The WB-EMS group scored better agility than the control group at the end of the intervention (pBonferroni less then 0.05) and was the only group that improved cardiovascular endurance. WB-EMS shows a favorable isolate effect on the development of dynamic leg strength, agility, and cardiovascular endurance but did not in dynamic arm strength, gait speed, balance, or flexibility of postmenopausal women.This study examined the relationship between Excessive Internet Use (EIU) in adolescents and their family environment, namely the family type, the family economic status, the effect of parental care, the level of parental control, the amount of parental monitoring, the quality of communication, and the time spent together. The study was based on data from an international survey, Health Behaviour in School Aged Children (HBSC), conducted in Slovakia. The sample representative for adolescents included 2547 participants (51% boys) aged 13-15. Multiple-step linear regression revealed that higher parental care and parental monitoring predicted lower EIU, while higher parental overprotection and lower socioeconomic status predicted higher EIU. The results suggest that both so-called optimal parenting (i.e., the balance of emotional warmth and protection) and the adolescent's autonomy lower the risk of EIU. Family factors explained about 14% of the variance, which suggests that aside from personal, cognitive and affective factors, a close social environment also plays an important role in adolescence EIU.In Engineering Geodesy, most coordinate frames are aligned with the local vertical. In this contribution we analyze and develop a method to use accelerometer triads for pole tilt compensation with total stations. Several triad sensor models are investigated and applied in a calibration routine using an industrial robot arm. Furthermore a calibration routine to determine the orientation of the IMU mounted on the pole is proposed. Using variance based sensitivity analysis we investigate the influence of different model parameters on leveling and pole tilt compensation. Based on this inference the developed calibration routines are adjusted. The final evaluation experiment shows an RMS of 2.4 mm for the tilt compensated measured ground point with tilts up to 50 gon.Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with an increased level of leptin and an abnormal fatty acid (FA) profile in the serum. However, there are no data on the associations between them, and the reason for increased serum levels in patients with CKD is not well elucidated. Recently, we found that a CKD-related abnormal FA profile caused significant changes in the expression of genes involved in lipid metabolism in hepatocytes. The aim of this study was to examine whether leptin gene expression in subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT) of patients with CKD may contribute to increased serum levels of this adipokine and whether the abnormal serum FA profile observed in CKD patients has an impact on leptin gene expression in adipocytes. The FA profile was measured in serum samples from patients with CKD and controls by GC-MS. The relative mRNA levels of leptin were measured in SAT by Real-Time PCR. Moreover, the effect of the CKD-related abnormal FA profile on leptin gene expression was studied in in vitro cultured 3T3-L1 adipocytes. Patients with CKD had higher concentrations of serum leptin than controls and higher expression level of the leptin gene in SAT. They also had increased serum monounsaturated FAs and decreased polyunsaturated FAs. The incubation of adipocytes with FAs isolated from CKD patients resulted in an increase of the levels of leptin mRNA. Increased leptin gene expression in SAT may contribute to elevated concentrations of these adipokine in patients with CKD. CKD-related alterations of the FA profile may contribute to elevated serum leptin concentrations in patients with CKD by increasing the gene expression of this adipokine in SAT.The hydraulic fracturing technique remains essential to unlock fossil fuel from shale oil reservoirs. However, water imbibed by shale during hydraulic fracturing triggers environmental and technical challenges due to the low flowback water recovery. While it appears that the imbibition of fracturing fluid is a complex function of physico-chemical processes in particular capillary force which is associated with wettability of oil-brine-shale, the controlling factor(s) to govern the wettability is incomplete and the literature data in this context is missing. We thus measured the adsorption/desorption of asphaltenes on silica surface in the presence of brines using quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM-D). We detected zeta potential of asphaltene-brine and brine-silica systems and calculated the disjoining pressures of the asphaltene-brine-silica system in the case of different salinity. Moreover, we performed a geochemical study to quantify the variation of surface chemical species at asphaltene anO- break down, to further interpret the formation of a thinner asphaltene adlayer on the rock surface. A total of 35 finishing pigs were allotted to five dietary treatments a control group with basal diet and four experimental diets where corn was equivalently substituted by 7%, 14%, 21%, and 28% defatted rice bran (DFRB), respectively. With increasing levels of DFRB, the neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) linearly decreased (p less then 0.05). In the jejunum, the mRNA level of nuclear factor erythroid-2 related factor-2 (Nrf2) exhibited a quadratic response (p less then 0.01) with incremental levels of DFRB. To maximize the impact of such deployments, home-based activity recognition is required to initially recognize behaviors within smart home environments and to use this information to provide better health and social care services. Activity recognition has the ability to recognize people's activities from the information about their interaction with the environment collected by sensors embedded within the home. In this paper, binary data collected by anonymous binary sensors such as pressure sensors, contact sensors, passive infrared sensors etc. are used to recognize activities. A radial basis function neural network (RBFNN) with localized stochastic-sensitive autoencoder (LiSSA) method is proposed for the purposes of home-based activity recognition. link2 An autoencoder (AE) is introduced to extract useful features from the binary sensor data by converting binary inputs into continuous inputs to extract increased levels of hidden information. The generalization capability of the proposed method is enhanced by minimizing both the training error and the stochastic sensitivity measure in an attempt to improve the ability of the classifier to tolerate uncertainties in the sensor data. Four binary home-based activity recognition datasets including OrdonezA, OrdonezB, Ulster, and activities of daily living data from van Kasteren (vanKasterenADL) are used to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed method. link3 Compared with well-known benchmarking approaches including support vector machine (SVM), multilayer perceptron neural network (MLPNN), random forest and an RBFNN-based method, the proposed method yielded the best performance with 98.35%, 86.26%, 96.31%, 92.31% accuracy on four datasets, respectively.
