The clinical relevance of hyperamylasemia after distal pancreatectomy (DP) remains unclear and no internationally accepted definition of postoperative acute pancreatitis (POAP) exists. The aim of this study was to characterize POAP after DP and to assess the role of serum amylase (SA) in POAP.

Outcomes of 641 patients who had undergone DP between 2015 and 2019 were analyzed. Postoperative SA was determined in all patients. POAP was defined based on contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) or intraoperative findings during relaparotomy.

An elevation of SA on postoperative day 1 (hyperamylasemia

) was found in 398 patients (62.1%). Twelve patients (1.87%) were identified with POAP. Ten patients demonstrated radiologic criteria for POAP and in two patients POAP was diagnosed during relaparotomy. Outcome of POAP patients was worse than that of patients with hyperamylasemia

alone and that with normal SA

without POAP evidence (postoperative pancreatic fistula 50% vs 30.6% vs 18.5%; length of hospital stay 26 days vs 12 vs 11, respectively). The overall 90-day mortality of all 641 patients was 0.6%.

POAP is a serious but rare complication after DP. Hyperamylasemia

is of prognostic relevance after DP, but it seems not sufficient as a single parameter to diagnose POAP.

Borno state, located in the North-Eastern parts of the country, started experiencing insurgency since 2009 by a militant group commonly referred to as "Boko Haram", leading to displacement of numerous persons from their homes. The state government created internally displaced persons (IDPs) camps with an estimated 600,000 persons and over 100,000 children aged 9 - 59 months. We explored the challenges in implementing the measles campaign in 2017 and its effect on measles elimination and control efforts in Borno State.

We conducted a retrospective review of the measles surveillance data from the Integrated disease surveillance and response (IDSR), the early warning alert and response system (EWARS), Measles SIA implementation strategy reports and the Post campaign evaluation survey data.

Seven (26%) of the 27 LGAs had security challenges in Borno state in November 2017. Following tome areas of suboptimal performance. Atuzabrutinib mw There remains a need to review the required strategies for successful implementation in Borno and other states affected by security challenges. The reestablishment of holding camps and vaccination posts at all entry points into IDP camps and host communities to ensure new entrants are screened and vaccinated with the measles vaccines, as has been successful in the polio programme in Nigeria will promotes efforts towards Measles control in the state.

The purpose of this study was to explore the efficacy, safety, and tolerability of a novel cyclosporine formulation for dry eye disease (DED).

This is an exploratory, multicenter, single-blind, randomized, positive-controlled Phase II clinical trial between cyclosporine ophthalmic gel (CyclAGel) and an open-label comparator (Restasis, positive control). A total of 240 eligible patients with moderate to severe DED were randomized to 4 study groups CyclAGel 0.05%/once daily (QD) (n=59), CyclAGel 0.05%/BID (n=60), CyclAGel 0.1%/QD (n=60), and Restasis 0.05%/BID (n=61). After receiving BID dosing of hypromellose eye drops during a 2-week run-in period, patients were randomized to the respective treatment group and dosed QD or BID for 12 weeks. Efficacy was assessed based on a number of sign and symptom end points, including eye dryness score (visual analog scale), 6 other parameters of symptoms for dryness (burning/stinging, itching, foreign body sensation, discomfort, sensitivity to light, and pain), and cornt safety, tolerability, and comfort profiles at 2 concentrations and frequency in moderate to severe DED.

CyclAGel showed excellent safety, tolerability, and comfort profiles at 2 concentrations and frequency in moderate to severe DED.

Electrocardiogram interpretation is an essential skill for emergency and critical care nurses and physicians. There remains a gap in standardized curricula and evaluation strategies used to achieve and assess competence in electrocardiogram interpretation. The purpose of this study was to develop an importance ranking of the 120 American Heart Association electrocardiogram diagnostic labels with interdisciplinary perspectives to inform curriculum development.

Data for this mixed methods study were collected through focus groups and individual semi-structured interviews. A card sort was used to assign relative importance scores to all 120 American Heart Association electrocardiogram diagnostic labels. Thematic analysis was used for qualitative data on participants' rationale for the rankings.

The 18 participants included 6 emergency and critical care registered nurses, 5 cardiologists, and 7 emergency medicine physicians. The 5 diagnoses chosen as the most important by all disciplines were ventricular taperspectives concerning electrocardiogram curriculum case selection and prioritization. Study findings can provide a foundation for emergency and critical care educators to create local ECG educational programs. Further work is recommended to validate the list amongst a larger population of emergency and critical care frontline nurses and physicians.Access to the abdominal aorta and its visceral trunks is possible through several approaches. Dissections of five cadavers performed during three National Surgical Anatomy courses applied to Aorta, Hepatobiliopancreatic and Digestive Surgery. Videos and pictures were taken throughout the dissections and showed different abdominal aorta approaches. Abdominal aorta and visceral trunks approaches longitudinal inframesocolic access, supraceliac clamping, celiac trunk dissection, superior mesenteric artery approaches (retroperitoneal after Kocher menoeuvre, supramesocolic or inframesocolic), Cattell-Braasch manoeuvre and mattox manoeuvre retrorenal and prerenal. Correct knowledge of the intraabdominal anatomy is necessary to perform all the abdominal aorta surgical approaches. Cadaveric dissection could help to achieve this objective. Cardiovascular and digestive surgeons need to know the possible strategies in order to choose the one which is best suited for each patient.
