Additionally, participants watched a video of a person modeling the solution to the task in a way that contradicted the stated goal. Temporal distance to the model was manipulated in Experiment 1. Participants imitated the model's way to solve the task more when the model was proximal and followed the task goal comparably more when the model was distant. Compared to various existing methods for analyzing histamine, high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) which is accurate but time-consuming, and immunochemical methods that are difficult to produce high specificity and affinity antibodies towards small molecules have been used. In this study, we developed a newly designed, sensitive, and selective fluorescence detection platform for histamine sensing, utilizing carbon quantum dots (CQDs) and synthetic peptides. Specifically, through biopanning approaches, a series of peptides having a high affinity towards immobilized histamine hapten were selected from phage-displayed libraries. Then, CQDs were synthesized by one-pot hydrothermal treatment enabling their fluorescence to be effectively quenched by peptides via the electron transfer interactions. While, in the presence of histamine, fluorescence will be recovered because of the stronger interaction between peptide and target. In this study, from the selectivity tests towards histamine and in contrast to structurally similar compounds, peptide Hisp3 (DIDRAGKASHWP) along with its dipeptide repeat derivative (Hisp3-2-C) were chemically synthesized to be used as promising histamine receptors. Furthermore, the application of peptide along with gold-coated magnetic nanoparticles (MNP@Au NPs) was designed for purification and analysis of fish samples. Herein, glycol-modified polyethylene terephthalate (PETG)-based microfluidic devices with embedded channels and gold film electrode (GFE) are developed by a one-step, low-cost, straightforward, and mass-producible method, and are sealed by a reversible hydrophilic tape-based mechanism. Easily accessible poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), polyethylene terephthalate (polyester, PET), and PETG are explored as substrate options for fabricating electrochemical sensors. The results demonstrated that PETG can be an excellent substrate for fabricating the electrode. The electrochemical stability and morphology of the device are investigated. Both redox ions ([Fe(CN)6]3-/4-) and redox organic compounds (dopamine) are used as model analytes to prove the electrochemical performance of the device. The PETG-based microfluidic devices integrated with electrochemical sensors can be used as alternative electrochemical devices for the detection of biological and chemical analytes. Meanwhile, batch-fabricated flexible electrochemical sensors based on PETG film and their electrochemical performance are reported.

To conduct a systematic literature review and analyze the demographic/biochemical parameters and clinical outcomes of COVID-19 patients with diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) and combined DKA/HHS (hyperglycemic hyperosmolar syndrome).

PubMed, Scopus, Embase, and Google Scholar databases were systematically searched till August 3, 2020 to identify studies reporting COVID-19 patients with DKA and combined DKA/HHS. A total of 19 articles reporting 110 patients met the eligibility criteria.

Of the 110 patients, 91 (83%) patients had isolated DKA while 19 (17%) had DKA/HHS. The majority of the patients were male (63%) and belonged to black ethnicity (36%). The median age at presentation ranged from 45.5 to 59.0 years. Most of the patients (77%) had pre-existing type 2 diabetes mellitus. Only 10% of the patients had newly diagnosed diabetes mellitus. The median blood glucose at presentation ranged from 486.0 to 568.5mg/dl, being higher in patients with DKA/HHS compared to isolated DKA. The volume of fluid replaced in the first 24h was higher in patients with DKA/HHS in contrast to patients with DKA alone. The in-hospital mortality rate was 45%, with higher mortality in the DKA/HHS group than in the isolated DKA group (67% vs. 29%). pH was lower in patients who had died compared to those who were discharged.

Although mindfulness-based childbirth and parenting is suggested to promote maternal-fetal attachment, no study has yet addressed its potential effects. This study aimed to determine the effects of a mindfulness-based childbirth and parenting program on maternal-fetal attachment among Iranian pregnant women.

This study was conducted on pregnant women, who were divided into two groups to either receive routine care plus mindfulness training for childbirth and parenting (i.e., eight 2-h group sessions once a week and one 3-h session of silent meditation) or receive routine care alone. After the intervention, the total score of maternal-fetal attachment was significantly higher in the experimental group (P<0.001; effect size=0.640). In the intervention group, all dimensions of maternal-fetal attachment significantly improved, except the dimension of "differentiation of self from the fetus", whereas in the control group, only the dimension of "attributing characteristics to the fetus" improved.

We obtained fifteen novel tyrosol derivatives and the compounds of the series were later evaluated as acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitors. The study of AChE inhibition is important for the development of new drugs and pesticides, and especially the research for managing Alzheimer's disease. The most active compound, namely 7-(1-[2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)ethyl]-1H-1,2,3-triazol-4-ylmethoxy)-4-methyl-2H-chromen-2-one (30), showed IC50 value of 14.66 ± 2.29 μmol L-1. Docking experiments corroborated by kinetic assay are suggestive of a competitive inhibition mechanism. Derivatives interacted with amino acids from the AChE active site associated to the development of Alzheimer's disease. The results indicate that the compounds synthesized have a high potential as prototypes for the development of new acetylcholinesterase inhibitors.The effects of allelopathy and the potential harm of several isolated allelochemicals have been studied in detail. Microorganisms in the phycosphere play an important role in algal growth, decay and nutrient cycling. However, it is unknown and often neglected whether allelochemicals affect the phycosphere. The present study selected a phenolic acid protocatechuic acid (PA) - previously shown to be an allelochemical. We studied PA at a half maximal effective concentration of 0.20 mM (30 mg L-1) against Scrippsiella trochoidea to assess the effect of PA on its phycosphere in an acute time period (48 h). The results showed that 1) OTUs (operational taxonomic units) in the treatment groups (31.4 ± 0.55) exceeded those of the control groups (28.2 ± 1.30) and the Shannon and Simpson indices were lower than the control groups (3.31 ± 0.08 and 0.84 ± 0.02, 3.45 ± 0.09 and 0.88 ± 0.01); 2) Gammaproteobacteria predominated in the treatment groups (44.71 ± 2.13 %) while Alphaproteobacteria dominated in the controls (67.17 ± 3.87 %); 3) Gammaproteobacteria and Alphaproteobacteria were important biomarkers in the treatment and control groups respectively (LDA > 4.0). PA improved the relative abundance of Alteromonas significantly and decreased the one of Rhodobacteraceae. PICRUSt analysis showed that the decrease of Rhodobacterceae was closely related with the decline of most functional genes in metabolism such as amino acid, carbohydrate, xenobiotics, cofactors and vitamins metabolism after PA-treated.

To investigate the association of insomnia and chronotype preference with daytime impairment and psychopathology in a community sample of adolescents in Hong Kong.

This was a cross-sectional study that included seven local secondary schools in Hong Kong. A total of 1667 adolescents (mean age 14.8±1.6 years old; boys 56.5%) returned a battery of self-report questionnaires including Insomnia Severity Index (ISI) and reduced Horne and Östberg Morningness and Eveningness Questionnaire (rMEQ) for assessing insomnia symptoms and chronotype preference, respectively. A subset of adolescent samples (n=768) were additionally assessed for suicidal ideation. Potential confounders including age, gender and sleep duration were controlled for in the analyses.

The prevalence of insomnia symptoms and eveningness chronotype was 37% and 25.6%, respectively. Regression models indicated that insomnia and eveningness were independently associated with excessive daytime sleepiness (insomnia adjusted OR [AdjOR]=3.8; 95% confid present study provided further evidence that insomnia and eveningness uniquely contributed to poor daytime functioning and mood related outcomes, while the co-existence of these two conditions could confer a greater risk in adolescents. However, insomnia, but not eveningness, was significantly linked to suicidality after controlling for mood symptoms. Our findings highlighted the necessity of timely management of sleep and circadian issues in adolescents.
