The findings of this study could provide first-hand quantitative information to clinical practitioners about the impact of such heterogeneities on the efficacy of RF procedures, thereby assisting them in developing standardized optimal protocols for different cases of interest.The objectives of the present investigation are to study the interaction and optimize the blend composition of flour of grinded Chia seeds, combined to Soy lecithin, a bread making improver, in a way to enhance the nutritional/functional value of bread without impairing its technological quality and to delay its staling rate. Nine formulations were prepared following a Central Composite Design. Technological attributes were evaluated both for fresh and stored bread. Compared to the control, samples with chia and lecithin significantly increased the nutritional value of bread. An innovative and interesting synergy was found in lecithin/chia combination to enhance the specific volume, to reduce the initial crumb firmness and to delay bread staling by retarding crumb firmness and reducing its water loss during storage. Using the RSM, the optimum blend containing (4.04%-Chia/1%-Lecithin) showed fresh bread with maximum specific volume and minimum crumb firmness. Whereas, bread combining the optimum blend (3.43%-Chia/1%-Lecithin) and stored for two days at room temperature showed the minimum crumb firmness.Upcycled defatted sunflower seed flour (SUN), a by-product obtained from sunflower oil extraction, was used as an animal fat replacer to develop healthier frankfurters. For that end, animal fat was replaced (~50%) with water and 2% or 4% of SUN. Nutritional composition, technological, structural and sensorial properties were evaluated. SUN incorporation led to a significant increase in protein, minerals (magnesium, potassium, copper and manganese) and a decrease in fat content (~37% less than control with all animal fat). The incorporation of SUN in frankfurters promoted the presence of phenolic compounds. Increasing SUN addition lead to an increasingly (p less then 0.05) darker frankfurter colour. Samples with SUN at 4% were firmer than the control according to TPA and sensory analysis results and showed the highest lipid disorder attributed to more lipid interactions in the meat matrix. SUN addition as an animal fat replacer in frankfurters is a feasible strategy to valorise sunflower oil by-products and obtain healthier frankfurters.The biostability of the polyurethanes Tecoflex EG-80A and Pellethane 2363-80A, used as basic polymers of the vascular grafts (VGs) produced by electrospinning, as well as the tensile strength of Tecoflex VGs, are studied. Solutions of Tecoflex or Pellethane with gelatin and bivalirudin in 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoroisopropanol are used for VG production. After 1, 12, and 24 weeks of VG implantation in the infrarenal position of the abdominal aorta of Wistar rats, VGs are explanted, fixed in formalin, freed from outer tissues, dialyzed, and dried. The polyurethanes are extracted from VGs by dispersion/extraction in tetrahydrofuran (THF) and freed from the excess of THF-insoluble biopolymers. The stability of polyurethanes is assessed by IR spectroscopy and gel permeation chromatography. Pellethane has emerged to be stable at all experimental points. Tecoflex loses approximately 10% of its molecular weight (both Mn and Mw) after 3 months and restored its initial value within 6 months of its functioning as a graft. Mechanical testing demonstrates a 30% reduction in the tensile strength after 3 months in VG and a 10% increase after 6 months. This tribute celebrates the golden era of Developmental Biology.Sillago species lives in the demersal environments and face multiple stressors, such as localized oxygen depletion, sulfide accumulation, and high turbidity. In this study, we performed transcriptome analyses of seven Sillago species to provide insights into the phylogeny and positively selected genes of this species. After de novo assembly, 82,024, 58,102, 63,807, 85,990, 102,185, 69,748, and 102,903 unigenes were generated from S. japonica, S. aeolus, S. sp.1, S. sihama, S. sp.2, S. parvisquamis, and S. sinica, respectively. Furthermore, 140 shared orthologous exon markers were identified and then applied to reconstruct the phylogenetic relationships of the seven Sillago species. The reconstructed phylogenetic structure was significantly congruent with the prevailing morphological and molecular biological view of Sillago species relationships. In addition, a total of 44 genes were identified to be positively selected, and these genes were potential participants in the stress response, material (carbohydrate, amino acid and lipid) and energy metabolism, growth and differentiation, embryogenesis, visual sense, and other biological processes. We suspected that these genes possibly allowed Sillago species to increase their ecological adaptation to multiple environmental stressors.Carbon reactivation is a strategy to reduce waste and cost in many industrial processes, for example, effluent treatment, food industry, and hydrometallurgy. In this work, the effect of physical and chemical reactivation of granular activated carbon (AC) was studied. Spent activated carbon (SAC) was obtained from a carbon in pulp (CIP) leaching process for gold extraction. Chemical and physical reactivations were evaluated using several acid-wash procedures (HCl, HNO3, H2SO4) and thermal treatment (650-950 °C) methods, respectively. The effect of the reactivation processes on the mechanical properties was evaluated determining ball pan hardness and normal abrasion in pulp resistance. The effect on the adsorptive properties was evaluated via the iodine number, the gold adsorption value (k expressed in mg Au/g AC), and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area. Initial characterization of the SAC showed an iodine number of 734 mg I2/g AC, a k value of 1.37 mg Au/g AC, and a BET surface area of 869 m2/g. The best reactivation results of the SAC were achieved via acid washing with HNO3 at 20% v/v and 50 °C over 30 min, and a subsequent thermal reactivation at 850 °C over 1 h.
