Plasmodium ovale is a benign tertian malaria parasite that morphologically resembles Plasmodium vivax. P. ovale also shares similar tertian periodicity and can cause relapse in patients without a radical cure, making it easily misidentified as P. vivax in routine diagnosis. Therefore, its prevalence might be underreported worldwide. The present study aimed to quantify the prevalence of P. ovale misidentified as P. vivax malaria using data from studies reporting confirmed P. ovale cases by molecular methods. Studies reporting the misidentification of P. ovale as P. vivax malaria were identified from three databases, MEDLINE, Web of Science, and Scopus, without language restrictions, but the publication date was restricted to 1993 and 2020. The quality of the included studies was assessed using the Quality Assessment of Diagnostic Accuracy Studies (QUADAS). The random-effects model was used to estimate the pooled prevalence of the misidentification of P. ovale as P. vivax malaria by the microscopic method when dentification, are necessary to improve the microscopic identification of Plasmodium species in rural health centres where PCR is unavailable. The phase stability and microstructure of ZrO2-5CaO and ZrO2-24MgO mixed coating (wt%) by air plasma spraying on 304 stainless steel substrates were investigated. A Ni-5Al (wt%) metallic bond coating was firstly sprayed between the substrate and the ceramic top layer. The results were compared with the individual coatings of ZrO2-5CaO and ZrO2-24MgO for a better understanding of the correlation between their microstructures and mechanical properties. Mixed zirconia coating was found to have a mixture of cubic and tetragonal phases that stabilized under different plasma spray conditions. Microscopic observations and elemental composition analysis of as-sprayed mixed coating showed that modified ceramic-matrix grains had been formed. Microsized ZrO2-5CaO particles were embedded in the matrix grain creating an intragranular microstructure. Results indicated that ceramic-matrix grains provided a diffusion barrier for the growth of oxides induced stress near and onto the bond layer that reduced cracks, thereby overcoming the top delamination of the ceramic coating. Selleckchem PCO371 Moreover, disparity in wear resistance and microhardness behavior of the coatings was influenced by initial feedstock powder and matrix microstructures. Improvement in the wear resistance of the mixed zirconia coating was attributed to a decrease in oxide content, which resulted in an increase in intersplat cohesive strength. The impact of COVID-19 on social life has been drastic and global. However, the different numbers of cases and different actions in different countries have been leading to various interesting yet unexplored effects on human behavior. In the present study, we compare the physical activity and recreational screen time of a representative sample of 1711 4- to 17-year-olds before and during the strictest time of the first COVID-19 lockdown in Germany. We found that sports activity declined whereas recreational screen time increased. However, a substantial increase in habitual physical activities leads to an overall increase in physical activity among children and adolescents in Germany. The effects differ in size but not in their direction between age groups and are stable for boys and girls. We conclude from this natural experiment that physical activity among children and adolescents is highly context-driven and mutual and does not act as a functional opposite to recreational screen time.Mechanisms involved in the acute responses to renal denervation (RDN) have yet to be fully understood. We assessed urinary volume, autonomic control and aorta vascular reactivity after acute RDN. Male normotensive Wistar rats and spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) were divided into normotensive + RDN (ND) or sham surgery (NS), and hypertensive + RDN (HD) or sham surgery (HS). Metabolic parameters and hemodynamic measurements were recorded 72h and 4 days after intervention, respectively. Aortic rings were studied 7 days post RDN in an isometric myograph. Concentration-response curves to phenylephrine, sodium nitroprusside and acetylcholine (10-10-10-5 M) were performed. Two-way ANOVA was used for group comparisons and differences reported when p  less then  0.05. Results are presented as mean ± SEM. Urinary volume was 112% higher in HD vs. HS (HS = 14.94 ± 2.5 mL; HD = 31.69 ± 2.2 mL) and remained unchanged in normotensive rats. Systolic BP was lower in HD rats (HS = 201 ± 12 vs. HD = 172 ± 3 mmHg) without changes in normotensive group. HD group showed increased HF and LF modulation (HS = 5.8 ± 0.7 ms2 vs. HD = 13.4 ± 1.4 ms2; HS = 3.5 ± 0.7 ms2 vs. HD = 10.5 ± 1.7 ms2, respectively). RDN normalized vascular reactivity in HD rats and increased phenylephrine response in ND rats. Acute fall in BP induced by RDN is associated with increased urinary volume, which in turn may also have contributed to functional changes of the aorta.Segregation distortion is a common phenomenon found in most genetic mapping studies and is an important resource to dissect the mechanism of action in gene loci that cause deviation. Marine animals possess high genetic diversity and genomic heterozygosity, they therefore are ideal model organisms to study segregation distortion induced by selection. In the present study, we constructed a full-sib family of Fenneropenaeus chinensis and exerted high-intensity selection on 10,000 incipient progenies. 2b-RAD method was employed in remaining 273 individuals to develop genome-wide SNPs for segregating analysis and 41,612 SNPs were developed. 50.77% of 32,229 high-quality representative markers deviated from the expected Mendelian ratio. Results showed that most of these distorted markers (91.57%) were influenced at zygotic level. Heterozygote excess (53.07%) and homozygous deletions (41.96%) may both play an important role, sum of which explained 95.03% of distortion after fertilization. However, further results identified highly probable linkage among deleterious alleles, which may account for a considerable portion of heterozygote excess rather than single locus with heterozygote advantage. Results of this study support a major role of deleterious alleles in genetic load, thus in favor of partial dominance hypothesis. It would also offer necessary recommendations for the formulation of breeding strategy in shrimps.
