Formic acid is one of the most desirable liquid hydrogen carriers. The selective production of formic acid from monosaccharides in water under mild reaction conditions using solid catalysts was investigated. Calcium oxide, an abundant solid base catalyst available from seashell or limestone by thermal decomposition, was found to be the most active of the simple oxides tested, with formic acid yields of 50 % and 66 % from glucose and xylose, respectively, in 1.4 % H2 O2 aqueous solution at 343 K for 30 min. The main reaction pathway is a sequential formation of formic acid from glucose by C-C bond cleavage involving aldehyde groups in the acyclic form. The reaction also involves base-catalyzed aldose-ketose isomerization and retroaldol reaction, resulting in the formation of fructose and trioses including glyceraldehyde and dihydroxyacetone. These intermediates were further decomposed into formic acid or glycolic acid. The catalytic activity remained unchanged for further reuse by a simple post-calcination.Biobeds are agriculture-based bioremediation tools used to safely contain and microbially degrade on-farm pesticide waste and rinsate, thereby reducing the negative environmental impacts associated with pesticide use. While these engineered ecosystems demonstrate efficient pesticide removal, the microbiomes in these environments remain largely understudied both taxonomically and functionally. This study used metagenomic and metatranscriptomic techniques to characterize the microbial community in a two-cell Canadian biobed system before and after a field season of pesticide application. These culture-independent approaches identified an enrichment of xenobiotic-degrading bacteria, such as Afipia, Sphingopyxis and Pseudomonas, and enrichment and transcription of xenobiotic-degrading genes, such as peroxidases, oxygenases, and hydroxylases, among others; we were able to directly link the transcription of these genes to Pseudomonas, Oligotropha, Mesorhizobium, Rhodopseudomonas, and Stenotrophomonas taxa.

Current assessment methods of penile cavernous fibrosis in animal models have limitations due to the inability to provide complex and volume analysis of fibrotic alterations.

The aim was to evaluate micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) for assessment of cavernous fibrosis and compare it with histological, histochemical, immunohistochemical, and RT-PCR analysis.

A controlled trial was performed involving 25 New Zealand male rabbits with induced testosterone deficiency by orchidectomy. Penile samples were obtained before and after 7, 14, 21, 84 days from orchidectomy. We consistently performed a) gray value analysis of corpora cavernosa 3D models reconstructed after micro-CT; b) morphometry of smooth muscles/connective tissue ratio, collagen type I/III ratio, and area of TGF-beta-1 expression in corpora cavernosa; c) RT-PCR of TGF-beta-1 expression.

Micro-CT allowed visualization of penile structures at the resolution comparable to light microscopy. Gray values of corpora cavernosa decreased from 1673 (c signs. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

Micro-CT provided 3D visualization of entire corpora cavernosa and assessment of radiodensity alterations by gray value analysis in fibrosis progression. We speculate that gray value changes at early and late fibrosis stages could be related to tissue reorganization. RT-PCR is impossible to conduct on tissue samples studied by micro-CT due to RNA destruction. We also suggest that micro-CT could negatively affect the immunohistochemical outcome, as a significant increase of TGF-beta-1 expression occurs later than histological fibrotic signs. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) had been identified as a non-coding RNA associated with many types of cancer in recent years. However, the involvement of hsa_circ_0008274 in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) has not been explored. The aim of our research is to explore the biological mechanism and function of hsa_circ_0008274 in LUAD.

The hsa_circ_0008274, miR-578, and high mobility group AT-Hook 2 (HMGA2) mRNA expression levels were detected via qRT-PCR. Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) Transwell assay and wound healing assay were performed to measure the cell proliferation, invasion, and migration ability. Luciferase reporter and Western blotting experiments were performed to characterize the competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) mechanism of hsa_circ_0008274.

Our findings determined that the expression of hsa_circ_0008274 in LUAD was significantly decreased. Cell experiments showed that overexpressed hsa_circ_0008274 could reduce the proliferation and invasion ability of LUAD cells. Moreover, miRNA-578 could identify as a miRNA sponge of hsa_circ_0008274. Overexpressed hsa_circ_0008274 reduced the proliferation and invasion of LUAD cells caused by miR-578 mimics. Increasing the expression of miR-578 can aggravate the proliferation and invasion of LUAD cells and block the inhibition of proliferation and invasion of LUAD cells mediated by overexpressed hsa_circ_0008274. Subsequent data indicate that HMGA2 of the tumor-promoting gene is the target gene of miR-578. The upregulation of HMGA2 partially reversed the tumor inhibitory effect of LUAD cells induced by overexpressed hsa_circ_0008274 or miR-578 mimics.

In summary, our data show that the overexpression of hsa_circ_0008274 repressed the proliferation and invasion of LUAD through downregulating miR-578 and activating HMGA2.

In summary, our data show that the overexpression of hsa_circ_0008274 repressed the proliferation and invasion of LUAD through downregulating miR-578 and activating HMGA2.Endemic fluorosis is a chronic systemic disease that seriously endangers human health. In high fluoride areas, people consume excessive fluoride for a long time through drinking water or food, which leads to chronic cumulative fluorosis in the body. Fluorosis can cause changes in the expression of some miRNA in cells, and the miRNA can participate in fluoride-induced osteoblast activation through various signal pathways. To observe the differential expression of apoptosis-related microRNA (miRNA) in mouse osteoblasts under the action of excessive fluoride. Primary cultured mouse osteoblasts, identified by osteocalcin (OC) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) staining, were treated with 20 mg/L sodium fluoride and 40 mg/L sodium fluoride for 12/24 hr, respectively, to establish the fluoride staining model for comparing and analyzing the sequence of miRNA among groups by bioinformatics methods; four miRNA chains were verified by fluorescence quantitative PCR. After treatment with 20 mg/L sodium fluoride for 12 hr andsm, FoxO signaling pathway, ErbB signaling pathway, autophagy, and so forth. An important step of the great achievement of organic solar cells in power conversion efficiency is the development of low-band gap polymer donors, PBDB-T derivatives, which present interesting aggregation effects dominating the device performance. The aggregation of polymers can be manipulated by a series of variables from a materials design and processing conditions perspective; however, optimization of film quality is a time- and energy-consuming work. Here, we introduce a robot-based high-throughput platform (HTP) that is offering automated film preparation and optical spectroscopy thin-film characterization in combination with an analysis algorithm. PM6 films are prepared by the so-called spontaneous film spreading (SFS) process, where a polymer solution is coated on a water surface. Automated acquisition of UV/Vis and photoluminescence (PL) spectra and automated extraction of morphological features is coupled to Gaussian Process Regression to exploit available experimental evidence for morphology optimization but also for hypothesis formulation and testing with respect to the underlying physical principles. The integrated spectral modeling workflow yields quantitative microstructure information by distinguishing amorphous from ordered phases and assesses the extension of amorphous versus the ordered domains. This research provides an easy to use methodology to analyze the exciton coherence length in conjugated semiconductors and will allow to optimize exciton splitting in thin film organic semiconductor layers as a function of processing. The role of triglycerides (TG) in coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is controversial. The objective of this study was to explore the relationship between TG levels and prognosis in COVID-19 patients and investigate the factors that affect TG. COVID-19 patients were divided into normal or high TG level groups. Their demographic data, medical history, signs and symptoms, laboratory results, and final clinical results were analyzed retrospectively. A total of 174 patients were included. TG level was 1.6 (interquartile range [IQR] 1.1-2.1) mmol/L for all patients; 2.2 (IQR 1.8-2.7) mmol/L and 1.1 (IQR 1.0-1.3) mmol/L in the high TG and control groups, respectively. Overall, 29 patients (16.7%) died during hospitalization, including 19 (23.1%) in the high TG group and 10 (11.5%) in the control group (absolute survival difference, 2.5% (95% confidence interval [CI], 1.2%-5.1%), log-rank χ 2  = 5.7, and p = .017). Serum ferritin, C-reactive protein (CRP), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), and interleukin-10 (IL-10) levels were significantly higher in the high TG group compared to the control group. Pearson correlation analysis showed that TG was positively correlated with fasting blood glucose, leukocyte, serum ferritin, LDH, CRP, and IL-10 levels. Enfortumab vedotin-ejfv cell line Multiple regression showed that serum ferritin and IL-10 levels affected the TG level (R 2  = .095). The TG level in COVID-19 patients is correlated to serum ferritin and IL-10 levels, which reflects the activation of macrophages. It is suggested that COVID-19 patients be monitored for elevated TG as both a prognostic indicator and potential therapeutic target for COVID-19.

The interaction between activating receptor NKp30 and its major tumor ligand B7-H6 is important for NK cell-mediated tumor rejection. However, the regulation of B7-H6 by tumor therapeutics remains largely unknown. In this study, we investigated the regulation of B7-H6 by all-trans retinoic acid (atRA), a terminal differentiation inducer of tumor cells that is extensively used for clinical leukemia therapy.

We investigated the role of NKp30B7-H6 axis in NK cell-mediated tumor lysis against leukemia cells and the influence of atRA treatment on the cytotoxicity of NK cells using NK cell lines (NK92 and NKG) and leukemia cell lines (U-937 and THP-1). We evaluated the effect of atRA treatment on the expression of B7-H6 using real-time PCR, flow cytometry and western blotting. We used CRISPR/Cas9 to knockdown B7-H6 expression and siRNA to knockdown c-Myc in U-937 cells to evaluate the role of B7-H6 and c-Myc in atRA-induced tumor resistance against NK cells.

NK cell-mediated U-937 cell lysis was mainly depend-Myc signaling pathway, suggesting that more attention needs to be paid to the immunological adverse effects in the clinical use of atRA treatment.

Many studies reported that reproductive desire could be high among transgender (TG) individuals. In France, fertility preservation (FP) and sperm donation were very little proposed to TG individuals until recently, mainly because the Bioethics Law allows the use of Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART) only in infertile couples and prohibits surrogacy.

To evaluate the distribution of care on the French territory concerning fertility preservation and sperm donation in TG individuals.

A multicentric national survey was carried out between January 2019 and October 2020 in 28 ART centres of the French CECOS (Centres d'Etudes et de Conservation des Oeufs et du Sperme) network. Each centre was questioned to find out how many TG individuals came, were informed and cared for FP and sperm donation.

Concerning FP, 71.4% of centres received TG individuals and performed gamete cryopreservation; 581 TG individuals consulted for FP. TG women were more likely to desire (P<0.0001) and achieve (P<0.0001) FP than TG men.
