Cervical cancer is the most common cancer in reproductive aged women in Liberia. Lack of awareness and screening capacity are both major contributors to the prevalence of this disease. The minority Muslim population in this country is largely unscreened. The objective of the study was to assess cervical cancer risk factors and screening preferences among Muslim women living in Monrovia, Liberia and to offer self-screening with HPV testing. A multiple step implementation strategy was devised in order to outreach to the Muslim population with the engagement of community and religious leaders, about an upcoming screening program and informational session at a local clinic. Over 150 Muslim women attended the session, 120 completed the HPV screening, and 55 women completed the questionnaires. find more Questionnaire data revealed overall low risk factors for cervical cancer, but also low use of family planning as well as low knowledge about cervical cancer and HPV. Participants showed an interest in screening and a majority preferred self-collected tests. These preferences should be incorporated in future programming. To engage minority populations in screening programs, there may be success with targeted messages, involvement of community religious leaders, and eliciting feedback to incorporate preferred strategies and improve participation and programming. There is tremendous need for feasible and acceptable community-based interventions to address poor nutrition and health among teen mothers in rural Eastern Uganda. To inform such interventions, we identified facilitators/opportunities and challenges for maternal/child nutrition and health at community level, as perceived by those closest to the problem. In-depth interviews were conducted among 101 teens, family and community members in Budondo sub-county using questions based on social cognitive theory constructs related to nutrition/health. Data were analyzed thematically using Atlas-ti7.5.4. Facilitators included family support for positive teen decision-making regarding healthcare and practices and opportunities included income generation training and availability of healthcare services. Challenges included poor attitude of parents towards community workers, harsh treatment, inability to obtain income generation materials, insufficient land, food or medical supplies and medical understaffing. To exploit opportunities for improved maternal/child health and progress towards global sustainable development goals, this study points to needs for local action. This study investigated the factors associated with early sexual debut, consensual sexual debut and multiple sexual partners in tertiary institutions in Lagos Metropolis, Nigeria. The study adopted a cross-sectional survey design with a proportional sampling method. Structured questionnaire was used to elicit information from respondents. Four hundred and thirty-three questionnaires were deemed eligible for data analysis. Chi-square, t-test and binary logistic regression were utilised to analyse the data. It was found that respondents who attended private secondary schools were more likely to have early sexual debut (X2= 3.076; p less then 0.05). There was no significant difference in the age at sexual debut for respondents from nuclear and extended families (M.D = - 0.377). Females were less likely to experience consensual sexual debut than their male counterparts (OR=0.469; p less then 0.01). Also, early sexual debut influenced exposure to multiple sexual partners- those who delayed sex till age 22 were the least likely to be exposed (OR= 0.056; p less then 0.001). Adequate sex education of young people-beginning at early years- before their sexual debut is important for improved sexual health.Appropriate breastfeeding is a cost-effective child survival strategy. This study assessed relationship between knowledge of breastfeeding and attitude towards infant feeding among pregnant women in Calabar, Nigeria. By convenience sampling, consenting antenatal clinic attendees were recruited from secondary health centers in Calabar. Pre-tested questionnaire was used to assess knowledge of different aspects of breastfeeding, while the Iowa Infant Feeding Attitude Scale (IIFAS) was used to assess attitude towards infant feeding. Data was analyzed using SPSS version 21.0, with p-value of less than 0.05 considered statistically significant. Two hundred and fifty (250) pregnant women were surveyed with mean age of 29.7 ± 6.1 years. One hundred and eight respondents (43.2%) had unsatisfactory levels of knowledge. Common areas of misconception were oral thrush effect of breastfeeding (47.2%), frequency of breast milk expression (47.6%), and effects of inverted nipples (45.6%). Most respondents (92.0%) had neutral attitude to infant feeding, and there was no significant relationship between overall knowledge of breastfeeding and infant feeding attitude (p less then 0.05). Of all the knowledge areas assessed, only benefits to mothers (r=0.11, p=0.08) and effective breastfeeding (r=0.17, p=0.01), had knowledge scores that correlated positively with infant feeding attitude scores. These findings contribute to existing literature required for improvement in policies and strategies, for breastfeeding education and child survival, especially in resource-poor settings. There is need for further research towards improving priority content of maternal health education during the time-constrained ANC visits.Fathers' support towards exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) is fast gaining recognition as a critical ingredient for successful EBF. This study examined the effect of a breastfeeding programme on fathers' intention to support EBF in Ikenne, LGA, Ogun State, Nigeria. This study adopted a pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design. A total of 50 expectant fathers participated in the study. A theory-based questionnaire was used to collect data. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 25 at p≤0.05. Results revealed a significant effect of the breastfeeding programme on intention (R2 = 0.839, R2adj = 0.837, F (1,70) = 364.337, p = 0.000). There was significant difference in intention between the post-experimental (x̄ = 6.587±0.948) and pre-control (x̄ = 5.444±1.473) groups at p-value = 0.025. A breastfeeding programme targeted at fathers had positive impact on intention towards EBF support. Government policies review is required to ensure the inclusion of fathers in maternal and child health service delivery.
