In vivo, EcoHIV expression was observed seven days after stereotaxic injections. Following EcoHIV infection, microglia were the major cell type expressing HIV-1 mRNA, results that are consistent with observations in the HIV-1 Tg rat. Within eight weeks of infection, EcoHIV rats exhibited neurocognitive impairments and synaptic dysfunction, which may result from activation of the NogoA-NgR3/PirB-RhoA signaling pathway and/or neuroinflammation. Collectively, these studies enhance our understanding of HIV-1 viral reservoirs in the brain and offer a novel biological system to model HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders and associated comorbidities (i.e., drug abuse) in rats.Plant matrices are widely recognized as valuable sources of several health promoting compounds [...].In Western countries, one of the main barriers to entomophagy is repulsion toward insects. Few studies have investigated the factors that influence attitudes toward entomophagy. Therefore, we conducted a cross-sectional study involving a sample of 248 university students, focusing on disgust and other potential attributes that can influence insect consumption, including health literacy. We used a 17-item self-administered questionnaire. Consistent with the literature, two items were chosen as outcome variables to evaluate the predictors of the propensity to consume insects "Have you ever eaten insects or insect-based products?" and "How disgusting do you find eating insects?" The data analysis shows that having already eaten insects is inversely associated with the level of disgust (OR 0.1, p 0.01). Additionally, having some knowledge and information about entomophagy is inversely associated with a higher level of disgust (OR 0.44, p = 0.03 and OR 0.25, p = 0.03, respectively), while being female is positively associated with disgust (OR 3.26, p less then 0.01). Our results suggest the potential role of health literacy, in addition to other factors, in influencing the willingness to taste insects. However, further studies involving larger and non-convenience samples are needed to confirm our hypothesis.Porous silicon (PSi) on p++-type (111) silicon substrate has been fabricated by electronically etching method in hydrofluoric acid (HF) media from 5 to 110 mA/cm2 of anodizing current density. The problem of determining the optical properties of (111) PSi is board through implementing a photoacoustic (PA) technique coupled to an electrochemical cell for real-time monitoring of the formation of porous silicon thin films. PA amplitude allows the calculation of the real part of the films refractive index and porosity using the reflectance self-modulation due to the interference effect between the PSi film and the substrate that produces a periodic PA amplitude. this website The optical properties are studied from specular reflectance measurements fitted through genetic algorithms, transfer matrix method (TMM), and the effective medium theory, where the Maxwell Garnett (MG), Bruggeman (BR), and Looyenga (LLL) models were tested to determine the most suitable for pore geometry and compared with the in situ PA method. It was found that (111) PSi exhibit a branched pore geometry producing optical anisotropy and high scattering films.Antimicrobial resistance in bacterial pathogens associated with bovine mastitis and human foodborne illnesses from contaminated food and water have an impact on animal and human health. Phenolic compounds have antimicrobial properties and some specialty sorghum grains are high in phenolic compounds, and the grain extract may have the potential as a natural antimicrobial alternative. The study's objective was to determine antimicrobial effects of sorghum phenolic extract on bacterial pathogens that cause bovine mastitis and human foodborne illnesses. Bacterial pathogens tested included Escherichia coli, Salmonella Typhimurium, Campylobacter jejuni, Campylobacter coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Klebsiella oxytoca, Staphylococcus aureus, and Enterococcus faecalis. Antibacterial activities of sorghum phenolic extracts were determined by agar-well diffusion assay. Sorghum phenolic extract was added to the wells in concentrations of 0, 100, 200, 500, 1000, or 4000 µg/mL. The control wells did not receive phenolic extract. Plates were incubated for 18-24 h, and the diameter of each zone of inhibition was measured. The results indicated that sorghum phenolic extract had inhibitory effects on Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecalis, Campylobacter jejuni, and Campylobacter coli.Deng entropy and extropy are two measures useful in the Dempster-Shafer evidence theory (DST) to study uncertainty, following the idea that extropy is the dual concept of entropy. In this paper, we present their fractional versions named fractional Deng entropy and extropy and compare them to other measures in the framework of DST. Here, we study the maximum for both of them and give several examples. Finally, we analyze a problem of classification in pattern recognition in order to highlight the importance of these new measures.'Akituki' (Pyrus pyrifolia Nakai.) is a very popular and profitable pear cultivar in China. However, its high susceptibility to cork spot disorder has limited its expansion of cultivated area. The mechanisms of cork spot disorder have been discussed extensively, focusing on Ca2+ deficiency, yet no consensus has been made. In this study, we applied nitrendipine (NI) as a Ca2+ uptake inhibitor to explore the role of calcium in cork spot disorder occurrence. Results showed that NI treatment on the fruit remarkably increased the incidence of cork spot disorder; alteration of mineral contents happened at the early developmental stage of the fruit, especially on the outer flesh and the peel of the fruit; and this gap was filled gradually along with the expansion of the fruit. Significant differences in the expression levels of Ca2+ transport-related genes were found in the inner flesh, outer flesh and peel during the fruit growth period. The observation of free Ca2+ localization indicated the intracellular imbalance of Ca2+ in the NI-treated fruit. In conclusion, NI treatment reduced the calcium content in the fruit at an early developmental stage, altered the related expression of genes and influenced the cellular Ca2+ balance in the fruit, which prompted the occurrence of cork spot disorder. Measures for the prevention and control of cork spot disorder should be taken at the early stage of the fruit development in the field.Bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2) is widely used to enhance bone regeneration. However, because of its short half-life and rapid disappearance, large amounts of BMP-2 are needed, leading to unintended side effects. In this study, BMP-2-encapsulated alginate microbeads (AM) were used to enhance bone regeneration. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay confirmed the sustained release of BMP-2 from AM. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)-adsorbing aptamer-conjugated hydroxyapatite (Apt-HA) was used for osteoconduction and dual delivery of VEGF and BMP-2. For in vivo bone regeneration evaluation, the grafts (1) Apt-HA + phosphate-buffered saline (PBS), (2) Apt-HA + AM without BMP-2, (3) Apt-HA + BMP-2, and (4) Apt-HA + AM encapsulated with BMP-2 were implanted into rabbit tibial metaphyseal defects. After four weeks, micro-computed tomography (CT), histological, and histomorphometric analyses were performed to evaluate bone regeneration. The Apt-HA + AM with BMP-2 group revealed a significantly higher new bone volume and bone volume/total volume (BV/TV) in both cortical and trabecular bone than the others. Furthermore, as evaluated by histomorphometric analysis, BMP-2 AM exhibited a significantly higher bone formation area than the others, indicating that AM could be used to efficiently deliver BMP-2 through sustained release. Moreover, the combined application of BMP-2-encapsulated Apt-HA + AM may effectively promote bone regeneration. In the recent review published in Brain Sciences, Othman and Tan suggested several preconditioning strategies to improve stem cell therapy after ischemic brain injury [...].Polyacrylonitrile (PAN) fibers are typically used as precursor fibers for carbon fiber production, produced through wet-spinning processes. The drawing process of the spun fiber can be classified into dry and wet drawing processes. It is known that the drawing stability and stretching ratio differ depending on the drawing process; however, the elementary characteristics are approximately similar. In this study, the mechanical properties of PAN fibers have been examined based on these two drawing processes with the differences analyzed through the analysis of microstructures. Further, to examine the composition of the fiber, element analysis has been conducted, and thereafter, the microstructure of the fiber is examined through X-ray diffraction analysis. Finally, the characteristics of PAN fibers and its mechanical properties has been examined according to each drawing condition. There are differences in moisture content and microstructure according to the drawing process, and it affects the tensile behavior. The results obtained could have potential implications if the processes are combined, as it could result in a design for a stable and highly efficient drawing process.Three perspectives were taken to explain decision-making within team sports (information processing, recognition primed decision-making, and ecological dynamics perspectives), resulting in conceptual tension and practical confusion. The aim of this paper was to interrogate empirical evidence to (1) understand the process of decision-making within team sports and (2) capture the characteristics of decision-making expertise in a team sport context. Nine electronic databases (SPORTDiscus, PsycINFO, PsycArticles, PsycTests, PubMed, SAGE journals online, Web of Knowledge, Academic Search Complete, and Web of Science) were searched until the final return in March 2021. Fifty-three articles satisfied the inclusion criteria, were analysed thematically, and synthesised using a narrative approach. Findings indicate that the relative absence or presence of mental representation within the decision-making process depends on factors, including complexity, typicality, time available, and contextual priors available in the game situation. We recommend that future research integrate concepts and methodologies prevalent within each perspective to better understand decision-making within team sports before providing implications for practitioners.Polyanions are an important class of water-soluble polymers because polyanions are utilized in a wide range of industrial fields. It is thus a great challenge to develop polyanions with novel structures to make their applications broader. In this study, a new polyanion with a dense 1,2,3-triazole backbone, poly(4-azido-5-hexanoic acid) (poly(AH)), was synthesized by copper(I)-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC) polymerization of t-butyl 4-azido-5-hexanoate followed by hydrolysis of the t-butyl ester groups. Turbidimetric and potentiometric titration data indicated that poly(AH) was well soluble in water under basic conditions (pH less then 7) and a weaker polyanion (apparent pKa = 5.4) than polyacrylic acid (apparent pKa = 4.5). Adsorption tests exhibited that sodium salt of poly(AH) (poly(AH)Na) adsorbed most preferably Fe3+ among the four metal ions examined, i.e., Cu2+, Pb2+, Li+, and Fe3+. 1H spin-lattice relaxation time measurements indicated that Fe3+ ions were adsorbed favorably onto the 1,2,3-triazole residues.
