Subcortical vascular mild cognitive impairment (svMCI) is a common prodromal stage of vascular dementia. Although mounting evidence has suggested abnormalities in several single brain network metrics, few studies have explored the consistency between functional and structural connectivity networks in svMCI. Here, we constructed such networks using resting-state fMRI for functional connectivity and diffusion tensor imaging for structural connectivity in 30 patients with svMCI and 30 normal controls. The functional networks were then parcellated into topological modules, corresponding to several well-defined functional domains. The coupling between the functional and structural networks was finally estimated and compared at the multiscale network level (whole brain and modular level). We found no significant intergroup differences in the functional-structural coupling within the whole brain; however, there was significantly increased functional-structural coupling within the dorsal attention module and decreased functional-structural coupling within the ventral attention module in the svMCI group. In addition, the svMCI patients demonstrated decreased intramodular connectivity strength in the visual, somatomotor, and dorsal attention modules as well as decreased intermodular connectivity strength between several modules in the functional network, mainly linking the visual, somatomotor, dorsal attention, ventral attention, and frontoparietal control modules. There was no significant correlation between the altered module-level functional-structural coupling and cognitive performance in patients with svMCI. These findings demonstrate for the first time that svMCI is reflected in a selective aberrant topological organization in multiscale brain networks and may improve our understanding of the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying svMCI.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic, relapsing, inflammatory skin disease characterized by eczema and pruritus, and frequently impairs sleep quality. Although cyclosporine improves symptoms of AD, objective evaluation of sleep in patients with AD treated with cyclosporine has not been reported. BMS-345541 cell line This study was conducted to elucidate the effects of cyclosporine on sleep quality for patients with AD.

Twelve patients with moderate-to-severe AD were recruited. Nocturnal sleep quality was evaluated for 7days using a sleep analyzer, which patients wore at the waist before and after cyclosporine was administered at 2.0-4.0mg/kg per day. Seven parameters of sleep quality were measured before and after cyclosporine administration for a period of 7days for each patient.

The administration of cyclosporine significantly improved total sleep time in four cases, sleep latency in two cases, wake after sleep onset in six cases, number of awakenings in two cases, sleep efficiency in seven cases, number of awakenings for more than 8min in three cases, and number of position changes recorded every 2min in three cases. The mean values of sleep latency significantly decreased after cyclosporine administration (P = 0.023). The mean value of sleep efficiency significantly increased after the administration (P = 0.002).

Two key enzymes, including, diacylglycerol acyltransferase (DGAT) and phospholipiddiacylglycerol acyltransferase (PDAT) catalyze the final step of TAG assembly. WRINKLED1 (WRI1) is one of the important transcription factors which regulate the fatty acid biosynthesis network and TAG accumulation by balancing carbon flux between carbohydrates and lipids. In addition, oleosin encoding gene (OLE) can protect TAGs from degradation by packing into oil bodies. In the current study, four important genes involved in TAG assembly and protection (i.e., AtDGAT1 and AtPDAT, AtWRI1, and AtOle) were overexpressed under a constitutive promoter in rice crop. TAG content of transgenic seeds increased significantly (P ≤ 0.05) by 26% in compared with those of control plants. Oleic and palmitic acid contents were significantly increased by 28% (from 32 to 41) and 27% (11 to 14) in seeds of transgenic plants in compared with controls, respectively. Our results showed an increase in the total grain and leaf oil contents by 70% (from 1.1 to 1.87%) and 22.5% (from 1.88 to 2.3%) in the metabolically engineered lines, respectively. This is the first report of transformation in rice for enhancing oil content and energy density in its seeds and vegetative parts. Such metabolically engineered crops would be cultivated for production much more oils in seeds and straw for food and biodiesel consequently.

Despite health disparities in preventive care among adult female immigrants, the extent to which their health service utilization is influenced by a cancer history remains largely unknown.

Using Andersen's behavioral model, 2007-2016 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey data were analyzed to examine the influence of a cancer history on health service utilization among adult immigrant women. Multivariate logistic regression models assessed factors related to past year health care utilization, operationalized as an outpatient doctor's visit and an inpatient overnight hospital stay.

Once other factors were considered, a past cancer history increased the likelihood of a past year inpatient overnight hospital stay, but was not associated with a past year outpatient doctor's visit.

An outpatient doctor's visit for adult female immigrant cancer survivors would provide an opportunity for essential preventive health services. They must be educated about the importance of ongoing outpatient care for cancer surveillance and health maintenance.
