Thyroid disorders, both overt and subclinical, are highly prevalent conditions in the general population. The present review will be aimed at providing a summary of most recent evidence coming from meta-analyses regarding the complex relationship between thyroid dysfunction and cardiovascular disease.
The review will summarize, in the first part, the physiopathological link between thyroid hormone imbalances and the cardiovascular system. In the second part the review will outline the evidence coming from meta-analyses regarding the cardiovascular risk related with both overt and subclinical thyroid dysfunctions. Particular attention will be put towards studies showing data stratified for patient's age, TSH levels and pre-existing cardiovascular disease. Finally, an overview regarding the effects of specific therapy for subclinical thyroid diseases in terms of amelioration of cardiovascular outcomes will be included.

A basal diet was supplemented with 0 (control), 400 (400 Lf), or 800 (800 Lf) mg Lf kg-1 diet. The results indicate a significant increase in innate immune parameters when the diet was supplemented with 800 mg Lf kg-1. The highest serum albumin value and the lowest serum glucose concentration were observed in 800 Lf group. The liver catalase activity in the 400 Lf and 800 Lf groups was lower than the control value. Moreover, malondialdehyde concentration in the liver of Asian sea bass was increased with increasing the dietary Lf supplementation. The results of the study suggest that supplementing diet with 800 mg Lf kg-1 stimulates non-specific immune response in Asian sea bass. Nonetheless, selecting an appropriate dose can be difficult, especially since both the higher and the lower dose tested may result in adverse effects.
The timely and appropriate monitoring of pulmonary status is of utmost importance for patients with cystic fibrosis (CF). Computed tomography (CT) has been used in clinical and research settings for tracking lung involvement in CF patients. However, as CT delivers a considerable amount of radiation, its sequential use in CF patients remains a concern. The application of CT, therefore, should take into account its potential risks. This review aims to understand whether and to what extent the CT findings correlate with the findings from other monitoring tools in CF lung disease.
PubMed was searched for articles about the correlation of chest CT findings with spirometric indices and with lung clearance index in children and adolescents with CF. The most relevant articles were reviewed and are presented herein.
Most studies have shown that forced expiratory volume in the first second (FEV
) and other spirometric indices correlate moderately with CT structural lung damage. However, at the individual level, there were patients with FEV
within the normal range and abnormal CT and vice versa. Furthermore, longitudinal studies have indicated that the deterioration of structural lung damage does not occur in parallel with the progression of lung function. Lung clearance index is a better predictor of CT findings.

Bottom-up multisensory integration and top-down modulation were predicted to be important for ownership and agency. In previous studies, cognitive load was revealed to affect the sense of agency in a top-down fashion, but its effect on ownership has not been fully investigated, not even its possibly different effect on explicit and implicit measures. Here we used cognitive load (small vs. large sets in a working-memory task) to disentangle explicit and implicit measures of ownership and agency in a task inducing the virtual hand illusion (VHI; stronger perceived ownership and agency over a virtual hand if it moves in synchrony with one's real hand). Results showed similar patterns for ownership and agency - both ownership and agency were affected by cognitive load, and importantly in the explicit measures, higher load increased the effect of synchrony (i.e., the VHI), but in implicit measures, higher load reduced indications of both ownership and agency. Hence, the load manipulation was selective with regard to the explicit versus implicit nature of the measure but not with respect to the measure's content. Indeed, a number of the neurological symptoms seen in COVID-19 patients, as well as the alterations in the gut microbiome, are also prevalent in patients with Parkinson's disease. Furthermore, biochemical pathways such as oxidative stress, inflammation, and protein aggregation have shared commonalities between Parkinson's disease and COVID-19 disease progression.
