Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has become a global pandemic even after vaccination. We aimed to identify immunological heterogeneity over time in vaccinated healthcare workers using neutralization antibodies and neutralizing activity tests.

Serum samples were collected from 214 healthcare workers before vaccination (pre) and on days 22, 90, and 180 after receiving the first dose of BNT162b2 vaccine (day 0). Neutralization antibody (NAb, SARS-CoV-2 S-RBD IgM/IgG) titers and two kinds of surrogate virus neutralization tests (sVNTs) were analyzed (UMIN000043851).

The NAb (SARS-CoV-2 S-RBD IgG) titer peaked on day 90 after vaccination (30,808.0μg/ml ± 35,211; p< 0.0001) and declined on day 180 (11,678.0μg/ml ± 33,770.0; p< 0.0001). The neutralizing activity also peaked on day 90 and declined with larger individual differences than those of IgG titer on day 180 (88.9% ± 15.0%, 64.8% ± 23.7%, p< 0.0001). We also found that the results of POCT-sVNT (immunochromatography) were highly correlated with those of conventional sVNT (ELISA).

Neutralizing activity is the gold standard for vaccine efficacy evaluation. Our results using conventional sVNT showed large individual differences in neutralizing activity reduction on day 180 (64.8% ± 23.7%), suggesting an association with the difference in vaccine efficacy. POCT-sVNT is rapid and user-friendly; it might be used for triage in homes, isolation facilities, and event venues without restrictions on the medical testing environment.

The switch-over of the two reaction pathways was achieved by changing the type of photocatalyst and the amount of thiophenol in the reaction mixture. The reaction proceeds under mild conditions with good functional group tolerance and can easily be scaled up.Volume transmission plays an essential role in CNS function, with neurotransmitters released from synapses diffusing through the extracellular space (ECS) to distant sites. Changes in the ECS volume fraction (α) will influence the diffusion and the concentration of transmitters within the ECS. We have recently shown that neuronal activity evoked by physiological photic stimuli results in rapid decreases in ECS α as large as 10% in the retina. We now characterize the cellular mechanisms responsible for this ECS shrinkage. We find that block of inwardly rectifying K+ channels with Ba2+ , inhibition of the Na+ /K+ /2Cl- cotransporter with bumetanide, or block of AQP4 water channels with TGN-020 do not diminish the light-evoked ECS decrease. Inhibition of the Na+ /HCO3 - cotransporter by removing HCO3 - from the superfusate, in contrast, reduces the light-evoked ECS decrease by 95.6%. Inhibition of the monocarboxylate transporter with alpha-cyano-4-hydroxycinnamate (4-CIN) also reduces the ECS shrinkage, but only by 32.5%. We tested whether the swelling of Müller cells, the principal glial cells of the retina, is responsible for the light-evoked ECS shrinkage. Light stimulation evoked a 6.3% increase in the volume of the fine processes of Müller cells. This volume increase was reduced by 97.1% when HCO3 - was removed from the superfusate. We conclude that a large fraction of the activity-dependent decrease in ECS α is generated by the activation of the Na+ /HCO3 - cotransporter in Müller cells. The monocarboxylate transporter may also contribute to the response.Vape shops specialize in the sales of e-cigarettes and other vaping products. In recent studies, young adults who use e-cigarettes have tended to identify with at-risk peer crowds. This is the first study to examine vape shop customers' clientele. Composed primarily of young adults and persons in early middle adulthood, we speculated that a relatively high prevalence of those who appeared to bystanders as radical/extreme (at-risk) customers would be identified as such at these shops. We recruited vape shops throughout Southern California (N = 44 shops), and trained teams of data collectors visited each of the consented vape shops, making note of 451 customers' appearance, including features such as manner of dress, presence of tattoos, and hairstyles. Customers were then coded as either belonging to a conventional, progressive, or radical/extreme crowd based on outward appearance. Of the customers observed, 223 (49%) were rated as appearing to be in the conventional crowd; 169 (38%) were rated as appearing to be in the progressive crowd, and only 59 (13%) were rated as appearing to be in the radical/extreme crowd. The conventional crowd tended to appear older. Clientele may reflect that more conventional young and early middle age adults are tempted to visit vape shops due to perceptions of greater acceptability or safety of e-cigarettes. E-cigarette mass media campaigns aimed at protecting potential vape shop customers from harm may need to depict more conservative-looking characters.Glandularia tenera (syn. Verbena tenera) is an herbaceous perennial ornamental plant used in gardens as an edging plant with beautiful white, red, or purple flowers. In autumn 2020 and 2021, severe powdery mildew infection was observed on G. tenera cultivar Xianghe in Renming Botanical garden in Shangqiu, Henan province, China (34.4568° N, 115.6640° E). Approximately 80% of leaves on each plant were symptomatic, and about 90% of the plants were infected. Powdery mildew colonies appeared as white spots on the adaxial surface of the leaves and stems of the plants in the initial infection stage. Later, mycelial growth was amphigenous, thick, forming irregular white patches, and effused to cover the whole leaf surface. Finally, leaves turned yellow and senescence occurred. Samples of symptomatic leaves were stained with trypan blue and examined under a Leica DM2500 microscope. Microscopic observations showed that conidia on infected leaves were hyaline and ellipsoid to oval with fibrosin bodies, measured 25 to 370. Meeboon, J. and Takamatsu, S. 2015. In June 2021, the rhizomes with soft rot were observed in a commercial farmer field in Mungyeong, South Korea with 25% disease incidence. Initially, watery, black and soft lesion were observed on the rhizomes. Later, abundant aerial white mycelia covered the entire rhizome resulting in rot and death. Affected rhizomes were washed thoroughly using tap water, surface sterilized with 0.5% NaOCl and rinsed with sterile distilled water. Small pieces (2 to 5 mm2) of inner diseased tissues were cut, placed on potato dextrose agar (PDA) and incubated on at 25°C in the dark. Twelve morphologically similar pure fungal isolates were obtained by hyphal tipping twice on fresh PDA. Rhizoid, sporangiophores, sporangium, and sporangiospores were observed. Rhizoid and sporangiophores were nonseptate. Sporangia were globose while columella were globose or subglobose. Sporangiospores were numerous, vs significant threat to OLA cultivation, sustainable management practices need to be adapted to control rhizome soft rot of ovate-leaf atractylodes.Maize (Zea mays L.) is one of the most important crops in China. Since 2020, a new leaf spot disease has occurred in southwest China in areas such as Yunnan, Sichuan and Hubei provinces. Typical symptoms appeared after tasseling. The spots are scattered on the leaf surface, round to oval in shape with diameter range 3-20 mm. Spots are initially water-soaked, gradually turning yellow or white. In 2021, diseased leaf samples with typical white spot were collected for pathogen isolation and identification in Qujing, Yunnan province. Four small pieces of leaf tissue (about 0.25 cm2 in area) were excised from the edge of the necrotic lesion of each plant, surface sterilized with 75% ethanol for 1 min, rinsed three times with sterile distilled water, and soaked in sterile distilled water for 5 min. The solution was plated on Luria Broth medium (LB) plate (Shin et al. 2022) . After incubation at 28°C for 24 h, round, smooth-edged yellow colonies appeared in the LB plate. The bacterium isolated was gram-negative, negwledge, this is the first report of maize white spot disease in China. Attentions should be paid to screening for disease-resistant resources and breeding disease-resistant hybrids. Reference Wells, J. M. et al. 1987. Int. J. Syst. Bacteriol. 37136-143. Shin, G. Methods This study assessed immunogenicity of cancer patients on active treatment receiving mRNA-based SARS-CoV-2 vaccine by detection of anti-SARS-CoV-2 S1 IgG antibodies in serum, before, after the first and second doses and 3 months after a complete primary course of vaccination. Results were compared with healthy controls. Results Of 112 patients, the seroconversion rate was 96%. A significant reduction in antibody levels was observed 3 months after vaccination in patients receiving immune checkpoint inhibitors versus control participants (p less then 0.001). Adverse events were mostly mild. Conclusion Immunogenicity after mRNA-based vaccine in cancer patients is adequate but influenced by the type of anticancer therapy. Antibody levels decline after 3 months, and thus a third vaccination is warranted.

To explore the perceptions of women with lived experience of domestic and family violence on accessing healthcare and to identify how nurses can facilitate and support women experiencing domestic and family violence to receive the care they need.

A qualitative single site study.

As part of an evaluation of a nurse-led domestic and family violence service, a 2-h focus group was conducted with four women with lived experience of domestic and family violence on 14 December 2021. The Levesque Framework provided a novel approach to identify barriers and facilitators to healthcare access. The focus group guide included eight open-ended questions. The audio recording was transcribed and analysed using Braun and Clark's thematic analysis process.

The Levesque Framework helped highlight individual and structural challenges in accessing healthcare faced by women experiencing domestic and family violence. Dominant themes were first contact, comprehensiveness of services and domestic violence awareness.

The growing incidences of domestic and family violence are confounding communities worldwide.
