The water-holding capacity, cooking loss, color, texture, protein content, and total volatile basic nitrogen (TVB-N) were monitored, to study the effect of tuna glazed with different materials on the quality every 30 days. Low-field nuclear magnetic resonance (LF-NMR) was used to measure the water distribution of tuna in this paper. The results showed that the quality of unglazed tuna decreased significantly after 180 days of frozen storage. During frozen storage, the hardness and a* values of RG (glazed with the rosmarinic acid group), SG (glazed with the sodium lactate group), and CG (glazed with the composite of rosmarinic acid, sodium lactate, and the antioxidant of bamboo leaf) tuna decreased slowly, while the malondialdehyde (MDA) value of AG (glazed with the antioxidant of bamboo leaf group) tuna increased slowly. After 180 days of frozen storage, CG tuna had the highest protein content and the lowest TVB-N value, which may have been due to the synergistic effect of glazing materials. The tuna with CG also had the best freshness and quality after frozen storage. Considering the results, a composite of rosemary (0.3%), sodium lactate (3.4%), and antioxidants of bamboo leaves (0.12%) is the best material for glazing tuna.Corneal grafts interact with their hosts via complex immunobiological processes that sometimes lead to graft failure. Prediction of graft failure is often a tedious task due to the genetic and nongenetic heterogeneity of patients. As in other areas of medicine, a reliable prediction method would impact therapeutic decision-making in corneal transplantation. Valuable insights into the clinically observed heterogeneity of host responses to corneal grafts have emerged from multidisciplinary approaches, including genomics analyses, mechanical studies, immunobiology, and theoretical modeling. Here, we review the emerging concepts, tools, and new biomarkers that may allow for the prediction of graft survival.The leucine metabolite, β-hydroxy-β-methyl butyrate (HMB), is widely used in human nutrition and animal production as a nutritional supplement. Although the HMB usage during late gestation has been demonstrated to have a positive effect on fetal development, knowledge on net absorption and metabolism of HMB and impact of HMB on branched chain amino acids (BCAAs) metabolism is lacking. To address this, we conducted a study using pigs during the perinatal period as a model organism. Eight-second parity sows were fitted with indwelling catheters in the femoral artery and in the portal, hepatic, femoral, and mesenteric veins. Eight hourly sets of blood samples were taken starting 30 min before the morning meal on day -10 and day -3 relative to parturition. Four control (CON) sows were fed a standard lactation diet from day -15 and throughout the experiment, and 4 HMB sows were fed the control diet supplemented with 15 mg Ca(HMB)2/kg body weight mixed in one third of the morning meal from day -10 until parturition while the liver metabolized 12%. Finally, 26% of the daily intake of HMB was secreted via colostrum at the day of farrowing. This study demonstrated that dietary HMB supplementation increased net uptake of amino acids and increased fatty acid oxidation through improving blood flow and insulin sensitivity during the late gestation. Most importantly, oral HMB administration could maintain a stable postprandial absorption and altered metabolism in BCAAs. Net portal flux of HMB at 5.5 to 6.5 h after feeding approached zero, indicating that HMB ideally should be administrated two or three times, daily.This study investigated the chronic effect of inspiratory muscle training (IMT) on the human serum metabolome in healthy male recreational cyclists. Using a randomized, parallel group design, twenty-eight participants were randomized to three IMT groups low intensity (LI, n = 7); moderate intensity (MI, n = 10); and high intensity (HI, n = 11). The IMT was performed for 11 weeks. Another group of participants under the same conditions, who did not perform the IMT but participated in all procedures, was included as controls (CG, n = 6). Blood samples were collected one week before and after 11 weeks of IMT and analyzed for metabolite shifts using 1H NMR. Statistical analysis included a 4 (group) × 2 (time) repeated measures ANOVA using the general linear model (GLM), and multivariate principal component analysis (PCA). Untargeted metabolomics analysis of serum samples identified 22 metabolites, including amino acids, lipids, and tricarboxylic acid cycle intermediates.
