In a mixed-culture type fermentation, Pichia spp. RK-33 (P. kluyveri in particular) are known to impart beneficial oenological attributes. In this study, we report on an easy isolation method of Pichia spp. from grape must by exploiting their film-forming capacity on media containing 10% ethanol. We isolated and identified two Pichia species, namely Pichia kudriavzevii and Pichia kluyveri, and subsequently co-inoculated them with Saccharomyces cerevisiae to ferment Gewürztraminer musts. Noteworthy differences included a significant increase in the 2-phenethyl acetate levels with the P. kluyveri co-fermentation and a general increase in ethyl esters with the P. kudriavzevii co-fermentation. Both Pichia co-inoculations yielded higher levels of glycerol in the final wines. Based on all the wine parameters we tested, the P. kluyveri strain that was isolated performed similarly to a commercial P. kluyveri strain.Bivalve mollusks have been widely recognized as an important source of foodborne virus. The aim of this work was to determine the presence of norovirus (NoV) and rotavirus (RVA) in Pacific cupped oyster (Crassostrea gigas) from Buenos Aires, Argentina. A total of 88 oyster were processed. 7% of pooled samples resulted positive for NoV GII by RT-qPCR. The nucleotide analysis showed that it was closely related to GII.4/Sydney. Regarding RVA, 21% were positive by RT-qPCR targeting the NSP3 gene. RVA from one pool was isolated in cell culture and infective viral particles were evidenced by immunofluorescence. The genotype constellation of RVA/Oyster-wt/Crassostrea gigas_BA/2015/G8P[1] isolated strain was G8-P[1]-I2-R2-C2-M2-A3-N2-T6-E2-H3, which has a bovine-like genome backbone. Notably, RVA possesses an E2 genotype which is different from the characteristic E12 genotype of RVA circulating in animal species from South America. Our findings evidence not only the presence of enteric viruses in oysters from Argentina, but most important the viability of RVA. This result pose the need to implement surveillance programs to prevent potential foodborne viral outbreaks due to the consumption of contaminated shellfish.

Chondrosarcomas of the head and neck are extremely rare, accounting for approximatively 0.1% of all head and neck malignant tumors. Mesenchymal chondrosarcomas are particularly aggressive, with a high propensity for recurrence.

We report the case of a 25years old man with no prior medical history, who presented to our facility with an aggressive tumor of the left maxilla. Upon radiologic and histopathological examinations, the tumor was revealed to be a mesenchymal chondrosarcoma. The patient was treated using surgical excision of the tumor, neoadjuvant chemotherapy and adjuvant radiotherapy.

Due to the high risk of recurrence and the possibility of metastasis occurring long after the initial diagnosis, it is important that patients with mesenchymal chondrosarcomas receive close and regular follow-ups after treatment.

In Trial 1, piglets (n = 168) were assigned to 1 of 2 treatments 1) control (CON; diet supplemented with 3000 g ZnO/t of feed; n = 8 replicates); 2) tributyrin and monolaurin blend - Porcestin™ (PR; diet supplemented with basal level of ZnO at 150 g/t and with the tested blend at 5 kg/t of feed; n = 8 replicates). In Trial 2, piglets (n = 244) were assigned to the same two treatments (n = 10 replicates). The study duration was 4 (Trial 1) and 6 (Trial 2) weeks post-weaning. In both trials, growth performance was similar between treatments (P > 0.05). In Trial 1, faecal counts of Lactobacillus spp. increased in pigs of PR group (P less then 0.05). In both trials, histomorphometrical analysis of jejunum and ileum samples showed a thicker intestinal mucosa in favor of the PR treatment (P less then 0.01), and Foxp3-positive regulatory T cells increased together with a concomitant decrease of MPO-positive granulocytes in jejunal mucosa of piglets from the PR treatment (P less then 0.01). Overall, supplementation of monolaurin and tributyrin blend compared to high ZnO levels resulted in similar growth performance. Moreover, beneficial effects on small intestinal morphometry and immune cells responses indicate its ability to attenuate inflammatory processes. To date, vibrational behavior has been recorded in more than 100 species of psyllid, which is still only a small fraction of the ∼4000 described species. In this overview, we categorize the duet behavior into (1) reciprocal duets, (2) engaged duets, (3) three-way duets and (4) loose duets. In species with notable signal differences between genders, typically the male possesses a longer, more complex signal, which is emitted at a higher frequency compared to those of the females. Vibrational signals exhibit species specific characteristics that are taxonomically informative in some cases. Despite only a limited number of vibrational communication studies incorporating phylogenetic analyses, these reveal that signals can have reliable systematic information, but also that evolutionary and/or environmental factors may influence signal characteristics in ways that confound phylogenetic signal. Other possible strategies employed in mate finding in psyllids are chemical and visual signals. The most likely mechanism of vibrational signal production in psyllids involves stridulation between forewing and thorax. In some applied approaches, methods exploiting vibrational signals to disrupt mating may be effective to control psyllid pests in the field.The purpose of this study was to examine relations between interpersonal stress and momentary shape and weight concerns among pre-adolescent and early adolescent boys and girls with overweight/obesity, using ecological momentary assessment (EMA). We also aimed to determine whether interpersonal stress was differentially related to shape/weight concerns in boys versus girls. Forty youth, ages 8-14 years (53% female), with overweight or obesity reported their state-level shape/weight concerns and negative affect and their recent interpersonal stress (i.e., stress experienced since the last EMA assessment) multiple times a day, for two weeks. Results indicated that interpersonal stress predicted shape/weight concerns in girls but was not related to shape/weight concerns in boys. At the between-person level, higher overall feelings of loneliness and social rejection and a higher overall desire for more friends predicted higher average levels of shape/weight concerns. At the within-person level, higher momentary ratings of loneliness, social rejection, and desire for more friends predicted lower shape/weight concerns. These data suggest that the tendency to experience interpersonal stress may be more detrimental to body satisfaction for girls with overweight/obesity than for boys with overweight/obesity. Interventions that focus on reducing interpersonal stress may be effective in ameliorating shape/weight concerns in girls with overweight/obesity.

Nearly 50% of patients recur within two years after curatively intended resection of colorectal cancer liver metastasis (CRLM). The optimal surveillance strategy is unknowndue to the lack of evidence. Here, we explored the potential for improving postoperative CRLM surveillance by performing serial circulating tumour DNA (ctDNA) assessments parallel to standard-of-care surveillance.

499 prospectively collected serial plasma samples from 96 patients undergoing CRLM resection were analysed using the tumour-agnostic methylation multiplex droplet-digital PCR test 'TriMeth'.

Patients with ctDNA postoperatively or post adjuvant chemotherapy experienced a significant lower recurrence-free survival than patients without ctDNA (hazard ratio (HR) 4.5; P<0.0001 and HR 8.4, P<0.0001). ctDNA status was a stronger predictor of recurrence than standard clinical risk factors and carcinoembryonic antigen. Serial TriMeth analysis detected ctDNA before radiological recurrence in 55.6% of ctDNA-positive patients, wittunities for improving postoperative surveillance of CRLM patients.

Current therapeutic regimens for patients with v-raf murine sarcoma viral oncogene homolog B1 (BRAF) V600E-mutated colorectal cancer show unsatisfactory efficacy. To improve outcomes in this area, we assessed the safety and efficacy of a new protocol using vemurafenib and cetuximab combined with FOLFIRI (5-fluorouracil/leucovorin/irinotecan) in patients with BRAF V600E-mutated colorectal cancer.

This was an investigator-initiated, open-label, single-arm, phase II trial conducted in patients with BRAF V600E-mutated advanced colorectal cancer. Patients were eligible to receive FOLFIRI combined with vemurafenib and cetuximab. The primary end-point was the objective response rate, and the secondary end-points included disease control rate, progression-free survival, overall survivaland safety. This trial is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT03727763.

With epidemiologic analyses of population-based trends in incidence and outcomes, we ascertained progress against non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) in children and young adolescents in the Netherlands since 1990.

Tumour characteristics were extracted from the Netherlands Cancer Registry for patients aged <18 years at diagnosis, between 1990 and 2015. Mortality data for 1980-2016 were derived from Statistics Netherlands. NHL subtypes comprised lymphoblastic lymphoma (LBL), Burkitt lymphoma (BL), diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) and anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL). Time trends in incidence and mortality ratesand 5-year overall survival (OS) rates were evaluated by average annual percentage change (AAPC) analyses and parametric survival models, respectively.

Overall incidence of NHL remained stable at 11 per million person-years (AAPC -0.2%, p=0.68), with a marked decrease among children of 5-9 years (AAPC -2.6%, p<0.01), especially among those with BL. Treatment regimens comprised less radiotherapy over time, especially for LBL and BL.
