dition under the nanocellulose/nanoalumina weight ratio of 10.25 and 0.4 wt% of nanocellulose in aqueous solution. The presence of nanoalumina facilitates the change of microstructure morphologies, the increase of BET specific surface area and the adsorption capacities of NC aerogel. Compared with pure NC aerogel (74.07 ± 1.67, 69.87 ± 1.01, 81.21 ± 3.20, 52.07 ± 1.70, 48.49 ± 1.01, 75.45 ± 3.58 and 87.03 ± 0.46 g g-1 for thiophene, anhydrous ethanol, ethyl acetate, cyclohexane, sesame oil, acetone and dichloromethane, respectively), the NC/Al2O3 aerogel manifests an outstanding adsorption capacity (108.07 ± 0.37, 89.91 ± 4.83, 93.93 ± 3.81, 71.13 ± 2.48, 64.83 ± 2.25, 85.19 ± 3.87 and 117.65 ± 5.68 g g-1, accordingly). By considering the desirable performance features and the convenient fabrication approach, this nanocellulose nanocomposite aerogel might be a feasible alternative for oily waste water recovery and conservation of environment.Transmission of Staphylococcus aureus along the dairy production chain is an emerging public health problem with human, veterinary, and food safety issues. The prevalence of multidrug-resistant, particularly methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA), has steadily increased in several European countries. In this study, the prevalence of S. aureus in raw cow milk and farm workers was investigated, and the trajectories of MRSA transmission at the primary stage of the dairy chain were assessed. To this purpose, a longitudinal survey was conducted in 618 dairy farms in two contiguous regions with high livestock density in North-eastern Italy. S. aureus contamination of bulk tank milk (BTM) was observed in more than 80% of farms, while MRSA prevalence was 3.6% and 15.9% in BTM and farm workers, respectively. The majority of MRSA isolates from both BTM and farm workers were assigned to ST398, and showed a worrisome multidrug-resistant phenotype. Enterotoxin and Panton-Valentine leukocidin genes were detected in 11.5% and 4.9% of MRSA isolates from both sources. Nearly all MRSA isolates from workers belonged to the same epidemiological type as BTM isolates from the corresponding farm, denoting a bidirectional MRSA transmission pattern. A focus on the ST398 spa type t899 MRSA lineage in the Italian livestock system highlighted the presence of two major clusters whose dissemination was likely facilitated by the selective pressure imposed by antimicrobial use in animal farming. Our findings emphasize the need for continuous monitoring of MRSA along the dairy production chain, not only to avoid transmission between animals and exposed workers, but also to contain the risk of raw milk and dairy product contamination by multidrug resistant and toxigenic strain.Numerous brain lesion and fMRI studies have linked individual differences in executive abilities and fluid intelligence to brain regions of the fronto-parietal "multiple-demand" (MD) network. Yet, fMRI studies have yielded conflicting evidence as to whether better executive abilities are associated with stronger or weaker MD activations and whether this relationship is restricted to the MD network. Here, in a large-sample (n = 216) fMRI investigation, we found that stronger activity in MD regions - functionally defined in individual participants - was robustly associated with more accurate and faster responses on a spatial working memory task performed in the scanner, as well as fluid intelligence measured independently (n = 114). In line with some prior claims about a relationship between language and fluid intelligence, we also found a weak association between activity in the brain regions of the left fronto-temporal language network during an independent passive reading task, and performance on the working memory task. However, controlling for the level of MD activity abolished this relationship, whereas the MD activity-behavior association remained highly reliable after controlling for the level of activity in the language network. Finally, we demonstrate how unreliable MD activity measures, coupled with small sample sizes, could falsely lead to the opposite, negative, association that has been reported in some prior studies. Taken together, these results demonstrate that a core component of individual differences variance in executive abilities and fluid intelligence is selectively and robustly positively associated with the level of activity in the MD network, a result that aligns well with lesion studies. The widespread occurrence of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) throughout aquatic environments has raised global concerns for public health, but understanding of the emergence and propagation of ARGs in diverse environmental media remains limited. This study investigated the occurrence and spatio-temporal patterns of six classes of ARGs in cyanobacteria isolated from Taihu Lake. Tetracycline and sulfonamide resistance genes were identified as dominant ARGs. The abundance of ARGs in cyanobacteria was significantly higher in the bloom period than in the non-bloom period. The contribution and persistence of ARGs were higher in extracellular DNA (eDNA) than in intracellular DNA (iDNA) from cyanobacteria. Cyanobacteria-associated eDNA carrying ARGs was more stable at lower temperature. The relative abundances of ARGs in Microcystis and Synechococcus, the dominant genera of cyanobacterial blooms in Taihu Lake, were significantly higher than those in other cyanobacterial strains. ODM-201 purchase The conjugative transfer efficiency for bacterial assimilation of ARGs in cyanobacteria was facilitated by increasing temperature and cyanobacterial cell concentration. Our results demonstrated that cyanobacteria could act as a significant reservoir and source for the acquisition and dissemination of ARGs in aquatic environments, hence the definition of negative ecological effects of cyanobacterial blooms was expanded. In humans, there is an endogenous, near 24-h (i.e., circadian) variation in mood with the best mood occurring during the circadian day and the worst mood occurring during the circadian night. Only positive affect, and not negative affect, has been shown to contribute to this circadian rhythm. We discovered a sharp circadian peak in negative affect during the circadian night coincident with a circadian trough in positive affect. These findings may help explain the association of depression with insomnia, the increased risk of suicide with nocturnal wakefulness, and the correlation between circadian misalignment and symptom severity in Major Depressive Disorder.
