Allergic rhinitis is one of the most common nasal inflammatory diseases among children. Assessment of clinical symptoms, skin prick test and serum immunoglobulin E (IgE) are common methods used to diagnose allergic rhinitis and assess inflammation degree in clinical settings. Congenital central hypoventilation syndrome (CCHS) is a rare autosomal dominant disorder caused by pathogenic variants in paired-like homeobox 2B (

) gene. Characteristics of neonatal-onset CCHS cases have not been well assessed. The aim of this study is to expand current knowledge of clinical and genetic features of neonates with CCHS and provide data on the genotype-phenotype correlation.

We made a retrospective analysis of 14 neonates carrying

pathogenic variants from 2014 to 2019 and we reviewed previously published neonatal-onset cases. Clinical and genetic data were analyzed. Moreover, genotype-phenotype correlation analysis was performed.

We identified a total of 60 neonatal-onset CCHS cases (35 males and 25 females) including 14 novel cases from our local cohort. Nearly 20% (18.2%) of the patients were born prematurely. Nearly half (46.2%) of the patients had abnormal family history. Polyhydramnios was observed in 21.3% (10/47) of the patients. About 90% of the patients manifested symptoms oohort with some genotypes tend to be associated with mild phenotype. Molecular testing in neonates with suspicion of CCHS and genetic counseling for CCHS families are highly recommended.

This report provides a large cohort of neonatal-onset CCHS cases. The results indicate that severe hypoventilation and HSCR are frequently observed in this group. NPARMs accounted for half of the cohort with some genotypes tend to be associated with mild phenotype. Molecular testing in neonates with suspicion of CCHS and genetic counseling for CCHS families are highly recommended.

TPO and AOX1 protein levels in plasma from patients with PTC and non-tumor controls were detected via enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The diagnostic accuracy of TPO and AOX1 was assessed using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. The association between gene expression levels and patient survival was explored using the Kaplan-Meier plotter online database.

Mediastinal neuroblastoma (NB) can invade the spinal canal and result in spinal cord compression. Some patients go on to develop severe spinal deformities after decompression of the spinal cord. The optimal therapeutic strategy for mediastinal NB with intraspinal extension is still unclear. Our study is to assess the therapeutic strategies for such patients.

A total of 77 patients suffered mediastinal tumors with intraspinal extension between March 2015 and Aug 2019 were enrolled in the study. According to the primary therapy, NB were classified into 4 groups chemotherapy, video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS)/thoracotomy, neurosurgical decompression, and a combined thoracic-neurosurgical approach. Clinical features, including patient demographics, neurologic recovery and survival rate, were assessed.

Among the 77 patients suffered mediastinal tumors with intraspinal extension, neurological symptoms were present in 44 patients. Neurological deficits improved in 76.5% of patients who underwent neur of initial treatment and the duration of neurological symptoms. Mediastinal NB with intraspinal extension can be effectively managed with a combined neurosurgical and thoracic surgical approach.

Rapid growth and elevated weight in childhood are significantly associated with obesity in later life, but evidence regarding dietary interventions and weight outcomes is lacking. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of dietary interventions on body mass index (BMI) and BMI z-score in childhood.

PubMed, EmBase, and the Cochrane library were searched from inception till June 2019. Studies that investigated the effectiveness of dietary interventions on BMI and BMI z-score in childhood were considered eligible in our study. The changes in BMI and BMI z-score between dietary interventions and control were calculated by pooled weighted mean differences (WMDs) and 95% CIs were evaluated using random-effects model.
