Electronic skins have received increasing attention in biomedical areas. Current efforts about electronic skins are focused on the development of multifunctional materials to improve their performance. Here, the authors propose a novel natural-synthetic polymers composite structural color hydrogel film with high stretchability, flexibility, conductivity, and superior self-reporting ability to construct ideal multiple-signal bionic electronic skins. The composite hydrogel film is prepared by using the mixture of polyacrylamide (PAM), silk fibroin (SF), poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)poly (4-styrene sulfonate) (PEDOTPSS, PP), and graphene oxide (GO) to replicate colloidal crystal templates and construct inverse opal scaffolds, followed by subsequent acid treatment. Due to these specific structures and components, the resultant film is imparted with vivid structural color and high conductivity while retaining the composite hydrogel's original stretchability and flexibility. The authors demonstrate that the composite hydrogel film has obvious color variation and electromechanical properties during the stretching and bending process, which could thus be utilized as a multi-signal response electronic skin to realize real-time color sensing and electrical response during human motions. These features indicate that the proposed composite structural color hydrogel film can widen the practical value of bionic electronic skins.The study aimed at widening the clinical and genetic spectrum of ASXL3-related syndrome, a neurodevelopmental disorder, caused by truncating variants in the ASXL3 gene. In this international collaborative study, we have undertaken a detailed clinical and molecular analysis of 45 previously unpublished individuals with ASXL3-related syndrome, as well as a review of all previously published individuals. We have reviewed the rather limited functional characterization of pathogenic variants in ASXL3 and discuss current understanding of the consequences of the different ASXL3 variants. In this comprehensive analysis of ASXL3-related syndrome, we define its natural history and clinical evolution occurring with age. We report familial ASXL3 pathogenic variants, characterize the phenotype in mildly affected individuals and discuss nonpenetrance. We also discuss the role of missense variants in ASXL3. We delineate a variable but consistent phenotype. The most characteristic features are neurodevelopmental delay with consistently limited speech, significant neuro-behavioral issues, hypotonia, and feeding difficulties. Distinctive features include downslanting palpebral fissures, hypertelorism, tubular nose with a prominent nasal bridge, and low-hanging columella. The presented data will inform clinical management of individuals with ASXL3-related syndrome and improve interpretation of new ASXL3 sequence variants.

Chronic pulmonary infection is the leading cause of mortality and morbidity in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF). The most common pathogens isolated in CF are Staphylococcus aureus (SA) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PA). Chronic infection of PA and methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) are associated with worse survival and antibiotic eradication treatment is recommended for both. This study compared the outcomes between intravenous (IV) and non-IV antibiotics in eradication of PA and MRSA.

This was a single-center retrospective study. All respiratory specimen cultures of 309 CF patients and eradication regimens between 2015 and 2019 were reviewed. Patients received eradication treatment in case of first ever isolation or new isolation after being infection-free ≥1 year. The primary analysis was the comparison of the percentage of successful eradication after receiving IV and non-IV eradication regimens. Demographic and clinical risk factors for eradication failure were also analyzed.

One hundred and two patients with PA isolations and 48 patients with MRSA were analyzed. At 1 year, 21.6% in PA group and 35.4% in MRSA group were successfully eradicated. There was not any statistically significant difference between IV versus non-IV antibiotic regimens on eradication in either group. Additionally, none of the clinical risk factors was significantly associated with eradication failure in PA and MRSA groups.

In the eradication of PA and MRSA, IV and non-IV treatment regimens did not show any superiority to one another. Non-parenteral eradication could be a better option considering the cost-effectiveness and the treatment burden of IV treatments due to hospitalization and the need for IV access.

We reviewed specimens of Liotyphlops albirostris along its current distribution range and, based on morphological data and ecological niche modeling analyses, we restrict the geographical range of L. albirostris and validate three previously described species. In this revision, we describe the morphological variation in the populations from Panamá, Colombia, Ecuador, and Venezuela, and propose a new taxonomic arrangement. We revalidate three previous synonyms of L. albirostris to full species status, while dividing the populations from Colombia in two subspecies-one attributed to a previously recognized species from the Caribbean region, and a new one from the Andean region. The new species differs from L. albirostris from Panamá in cephalic scale arrangements that effectively reduces the previously reported variability of these scales in L. albirostris. We also explore some osteological differences that are congruent with the variation observed. We hope that the recognition of these new species better represents the diversity within Liotyphlops, helping to bring these new species out of their cryptic status so that they will be considered in future conservation efforts.A high proportion of populations in most developing countries live below the poverty line, and those near refuse grounds resort to dumpsite farming to grow food. (Rubiaceae) is a phytomedicinal herb, used to treat gastrointestinal complications in Peninsular Malaysia. The study evaluates the in vivo hepatoprotective activity of ethanolic extract of M. elliptica stem in thioacetamide (TAA) induced liver fibrosis in male Sprague Drawly rats. Thirty adult rats were divided into five groups of six rats each. Rats of the normal control group received intraperitoneal injections (i. p.) of vehicle 10% Tween-20, 5 ml/kg, and hepatotoxic group 200 mg/kg TAA three times per week respectively. Three supplementary groups were treated with TAA plus daily oral silymarin (50 mg/kg) or M. selleck inhibitor elliptica (250 or 500 mg/kg). After 8 weeks of treatment, all rats were sacrificed. Liver fibrosis was assessed by gross macroscopic and microscopic tissue analysis, histopathological, and biochemical analysis. The aim of our study was to analyze the association between FO at continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) initiation and 28-day mortality in patients with sepsis associated AKI (S-AKI). In this retrospective study, data for patient characteristics were collected and 28-day mortality were studied. We also analyze association of variables, including FO degrees with 28-day mortality. Earlier commencement of CRRT showed better outcome. Non-survivors had higher FO than survivor (9.17% vs. 5.20%; p = 0.016). Survival in patients with FO > 10% over 28 days was significantly worse compared to those with FO ≤ 10% (p = 0.006). Multivariate analysis showed, FO > 10% (95%CI [1.721, 17.195], p = 0.004) was significantly associated with increased 28-day mortality. In S-AKI requiring CRRT, FO > 10% at CRRT initiation was independently associated with 28-day mortality.
