The formation of β1,3-linkages on animal glycoconjugates is catalyzed by a subset of β1,3-glycosyltransferases grouped in the CAZy family GT31. This family represents an extremely diverse set of β1,3-N-acetylglucosaminyltransferases (B3GNTs and FNGs), β1,3-N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferases (B3GALNTs), β1,3-galactosyltransferases (B3GALTs and C1GALTs), β1,3-glucosaminyltransferase (B3GLCT), and β1,3-glucuronyl acid transferases (B3GLCATs or CHs). The mammalian enzymes were particularly well-studied and shown to use a large variety of sugar donors and acceptor substrates leading to the formation of β1,3-linkages in various glycosylation pathways. In contrast, there are only a few studies related to other metazoan and lower vertebrates GT31 enzymes and the evolutionary relationships of these divergent sequences remain obscure. In this study, we used bioinformatics approaches to identify more than 920 of putative GT31 sequences in Metazoa, Fungi, and Choanoflagellata revealing their deep ancestry. Sequence-based analysis shed light on conserved motifs and structural features that are signatures of all the GT31. We leverage pieces of evidence from gene structure, phylogenetic and sequence-based analyses to identified two major subgroups of GT31 named FR and BGR and demonstrate the existence of ten orthologue groups in the Urmetazoa, the hypothetical last common ancestor of all animals. Finally, synteny and paralogy analysis unveiled the existence of 30 subfamilies in vertebrates, among which 5 are new and were named C1GALT2, C1GALT3, B3GALT8, B3GNT10, and B3GNT11. Physical activity and exercise are central components in rehabilitation after a myocardial infarction. Kinesiophobia (fear of movement) is a well-known barrier for a good rehabilitation outcome in these patients; however, there is a lack of studies focusing on the patient perspective. The aim of this study was to explore patients' perceptions of kinesiophobia in relation to physical activity and exercise 2 to 3months after an acute myocardial infarction.

This qualitative study design used individual semi-structured interviews. Face-to-face interviews were conducted with 21 patients post-myocardial infarction who were screened for kinesiophobia (≥32 on the Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia Heart). The interviews were transcribed and analyzed according to an inductive content analysis.

An overarching theme was defined as "coping with fear of movement after a myocardial infarction-a dynamic process over time" comprising 2 subthemes and explaining how coping with kinesiophobia runs in parallel processes integra's full story in addition to using adequate self-reports and tests of physical fitness. These results will inform the design, development, and evaluation of new treatment strategies, with the overall aim of reducing kinesiophobia and increasing physical activity and participation in exercise-based cardiac rehabilitation.

GAs have a pervasive effect on plant physiology, influencing processes that span the entire life cycle of the plant. All the information encoded by GAs, either environmental or developmental in origin, is canalized through DELLAs, which modulate the activity of many transcription factors and transcriptional regulators. GAs unlock the signaling pathway by triggering DELLA polyubiquitination and degradation by the 26S proteasome. Recent reports indicate, however, that there are other pathways that trigger DELLA polyubiquitination and degradation independently of GAs. Moreover, results gathered during recent years indicate that other post-translational modifications (PTMs), namely phosphorylation, SUMOylation and glycosylation, modulate DELLA function. The convergence of several PTMs in DELLA therefore highlights the strict regulation to which these proteins are subject. In this review, we summarize these discoveries and discuss DELLA PTMs from an evolutionary perspective and examine the possibilities these and other post-translational regulations offer to improve DELLA-dependent agronomic traits.

The extent to which the COVID-19 pandemic is appraised as a stressor influences perceived stress (PS) and psychological well-being during the event. Here, the association of older adults' expectations concerning the pandemic's duration and impact with PS and negative affect (NA) is investigated. Based on the stress and coping framework, PS is expected to mediate the association between COVID-19 expectations and NA.

Seven hundred fourteen residents of the United States and aged 60 and older completed an anonymous online survey in late March 2020 reporting PS, NA, and expectations regarding the pandemic.

Regression analyses controlling for demographic factors revealed that more dire pandemic expectations significantly predicted PS and NA directly, and the effects on NA were significantly mediated by PS.

Findings provide evidence that expectations about a pandemic influence the extent to which older adults experience stress and NA in the midst of a pandemic event. Implications for mental health are discussed.

Previous research on sleep patterns across the lifespan have largely been limited to self-report measures and constrained to certain geographic regions. Using a global sleep dataset of in situ observations from wearable activity trackers, we examine how sleep duration, timing, misalignment, and variability develop with age and vary by gender and BMI for nonshift workers.

We analyze 11.14 million nights from 69,650 adult nonshift workers aged 19-67 from 47 countries. We use mixed effects models to examine age-related trends in naturalistic sleep patterns and assess gender and BMI differences in these trends while controlling for user and country-level variation.

Our results confirm that sleep duration decreases, the prevalence of nighttime awakenings increases, while sleep onset and offset advance to become earlier with age. Although men tend to sleep less than women across the lifespan, nighttime awakenings are more prevalent for women, with the greatest disparity found from early to middle adulthood, a life stage associated with child-rearing.
