In a lack of similar research, we assessed the prognostic utility of pretreatment platelet-to-albumin ratio (PAR) in locally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma (LANPC) patients managed with concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT).

Present retrospective analysis included a sum of 128 consecutively treated LANPC patients who underwent cisplatinum-based radical CCRT. Availability of an ideal pretreatment PAR cutoff that may stratify the study population into two cohorts with significantly distinct survival outcomes was sought by utilizing the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. The primary and secondary endpoints were overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS), respectively.

A rounded 5.2 [area under the curve (AUC) 68.9%; sensitivity 67.4%; and specificity 65.2%] value was identified as the ideal PAR cutoff that grouped patients into two gatherings [PAR≥5.2 (N=60) versus <5.2 (N=68)]. The median follow-up duration was 86.4 months (range 9-147). Kaplan-Meier comparisons bettients this patient group treated with conclusive CCRT.

People with schizophrenia often exhibit deficits in empathy, which plays a major role in social cognition and interpersonal relationship. However, little work has investigated potential factors that influence empathy in schizophrenia. The study aimed to investigate the relationship among metacognition, psychiatric symptoms, cognitive functioning and empathy in patients diagnosed with schizophrenia.

Forty-eight people with schizophrenia were enrolled in the study group. EGFR targets All subjects participated in the metacognitions questionnaire-30 (MCQ-30), brief psychiatric rating scale (BPRS), neurocognitive functioning, interpersonal reactivity index (IRI), and the pictorial empathy test (PET).

Stepwise regression analysis revealed that cognitive self-consciousness (domain of metacognitions questionnaire-30) accounted for 37% of the variance in perspective taking scores (domain of interpersonal reactivity index). Resistance (subscale of brief psychiatric rating scale) and positive beliefs about worry (domain of metacognitive beliefs, cognitive functioning and psychiatric symptoms on empathy in people with schizophrenia.

To investigate the neuroprotective effect and mechanism of cerebroprotein hydrolysate-I (CH-I) on cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury in rats.

A total of 100 adult healthy male

rats were randomly divided into a sham group, model group, CH-I treated group, and cerebrolysin (CBL) positive group, consisting of 20 rats in each group. The middle cerebral artery occlusion/reperfusion (MCAO/R) model of rats was built by inserting a suture into the left external carotid artery (ECA) through the internal carotid artery (ICA). Treatment was performed by intraperitoneal injection of CH-I (20 mg/kg). The neurobehavioral function of rats was evaluated by modified neurological severity scores (mNSS). TTC staining was used to detect the cerebral infarction volume (CIV) of rats. The morphological and structural changes of nerve cells were observed by HE staining and the neuronal apoptosis was counted by TUNEL assay. Immunohistochemical (IHC) analysis was used to detect BDNF and pMEK1/2 expressions. The expressions oftective role by inhibiting the expression of MEK-ERK-CREB and enhancing the expression of BDNF after cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury, thus improving the neurobehavioral function of MCAO/R rats.

Depression is associated with an inflammatory immune response. There are minimal data regarding the association of inflammatory markers with depression in patients with spinal cord injury (SCI). We aimed to investigate the association of inflammatory markers with depression in middle-aged and elderly SCI patients.

Data were obtained from the Midlife in the United States (MIDUS) study, a longitudinal study of a representative sample of the adult population. We analyzed the associations of serum levels of fibrinogen, interleukin-6, tumor necrosis factor-ɑ, and C-reactive protein with depressive symptoms.

The median participant age was 52.5 years; 44.9% of participants were men. Multivariate linear regression analyses showed that an increased serum fibrinogen level (Sβ = 0.114, p = 0.005) was associated with higher Centre for Epidemiological Studies-Depression (CES-D) scores after adjustment for age, sex, body mass index (BMI), ethnicity, education, marital status, smoking, alcohol use, exercise, perceivedof serum fibrinogen for diagnosis of depression in SCI patients.

A reliable predictive score system to identify the risk of symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (sICH) after intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) in acute ischemic stroke patients is of great essence. We aimed to develop a nomogram for predicting the risk of sICH after IVT in Chinese patients.

We recruited acute ischemic stroke patients who were treated with IVT from five advanced stroke centers in China from April 2014 to November 2020. sICH was diagnosed according to the European Cooperative Acute Stroke Study II (ECASS-II) definition. Multivariable logistic regression was performed to construct the best-fit nomogram. The discrimination and calibration of the nomogram were evaluated by the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC-ROC) and calibration plot.

A total of 1200 patients were enrolled, of whom 66 (5.5%) developed sICH. In the multivariate logistic regression model, atrial fibrillation (odds ratio [OR] 3.25; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.89-5.60;

< 0.001), baseline glucose level (OR, 1.13; 95% CI, 1.07-1.20;

< 0.001), neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (OR, 1.05; 95% CI, 1.01-1.09;

= 0.024) and baseline National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) (OR, 1.07; 95% CI, 1.04-1.10;

< 0.001) were independent predictors for sICH and were used to generate the nomogram. The nomogram demonstrated good discrimination as the AUC-ROC value was 0.788 (95% CI, 0.737-0.840). The calibration plot revealed good calibration.

The nomogram consisted of atrial fibrillation, baseline glucose level, neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio, and NIHSS score may predict the risk of sICH in Chinese acute ischemic stroke patients treated with IVT.

The COVID-19 crisis has already resulted in an economic and labor market shock and a rise of informal work sectors. Being an informal job, traditional coffee vending can predispose women to a myriad of mental disorders. Therefore, this study was aimed to assess depressive symptoms during the COVID-19 pandemic and associated factors among street traditional coffee vendors in Harar town, Eastern Ethiopia.

A cross-sectional study was employed on 180 women engaged in street traditional coffee vending business in Harar town. Data were collected through a face-to-face interview using a Public Health Questionnaire and analyzed using SPSS version 20. Binary logistic regression was executed to identify factors associated with depression at a cut-off point of P < 0.05.

The mean age of the study participants was 31.83 (±10) years. The majority of the participants were currently married (n = 77, 42.8%), attended primary education (n = 68, 37.8%), had a family member of four or more (n = 60, 33.3%), and had two yic. Lower odds of being depressed were observed in those who attended a minimum of primary education. On the contrary, having a greater family size was associated with higher odds of being depressed. This finding will direct the government and other concerned bodies to be involved in the provision of psychological and material support for such informal workers during COVID-19.

Children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) share some symptoms with children with other neurodevelopmental disorders (ie, intellectual disability or communication disorders or language disorders). These similarities can make difficult to obtain an accurate diagnosis, which is essential to give targeted treatments to the patients. We aim to verify in our study if children with autistic traits who undergo to Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule had specific clinical diagnosis.

We selected 73 children tested with ADOS-G or ADOS-2, for the presence of autistic symptoms. The whole sample did not reach the cut-off of ADOS and did not receive the ASD diagnosis, according to DSM-5.

Results of this study showed that in order of frequency and early diagnosis, communication disorders (CD), mild intellectual disability (mID) and the attention deficit hyperactivity disorders (ADHD) represent the most common final clinical diagnosis in children with autistic traits.

Our results showed as the CD was the common diagnosis of these children and that often associated with younger age. Moreover, analyses of ADOS domains and the difference of individual items between groups did not show the capacity to differentiate between different neurodevelopmental disorders in terms of differential diagnosis, and this confirms the need for integrating multiple sources of information during the diagnostic process.

The clinical use of therapeutic peptides has been limited because of their inefficient delivery approaches and, therefore, inadequate delivery to target sites. Buccal administration of therapeutic peptides offers patients a potential alternative to the current invasive routes of administration.

The aim of the study was to fabricate hydrophobic ion-pairing (HIP)-nanocomplexes (C1 and C2) utilizing anionic bile salts and cationic peptides, and to assess their permeability across TR146 buccal cell layers and porcine buccal tissue.

C1 and C2-nanocomplexes were fabricated using the HIP approach. In addition, their physiochemical and morphological attributes, in vitro and ex vivo permeability properties, and qualitative and quantitative cellular uptake were evaluated and compared. The localization of C1 and C2-nanocomplexes in porcine buccal tissue was determined using confocal laser scanning microscopy.

The C1-nanocomplex was the superior nanocarrier and significantly enhanced the transport of insulin acro hormone.

In this study, we highlighted the efficacy of potential nanocarriers in addressing the daunting issues associated with the invasive administration of insulin and indicated a promising strategy for the buccal administration and delivery of this life-saving peptide hormone.

Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) are widely studied as radiosensitizers, but their radiosensitization in carbon ion radiotherapy is unsatisfactory. There is a lack of in vivo data on the radiosensitization of AuNPs under carbon ion irradiation. This study focused on the radiosensitization effect of AuNPs in the mouse melanoma cell line B16-F10 in vitro and in vivo.

11-mercaptoundecanoic acid (11-MUA)-coated gold (Au) nanoparticles (mAuNPs) formulations were prepared and characterized. To verify the radiosensitization effect of mAuNPs, hydroxyl radicals were generated in aqueous solution, and the detection of intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) and clone survival were carried out in vitro. The tumor growth rate (TGR) and survival of mice were analyzed to verify the radiosensitization effect of mAuNPs in vivo. The apoptosis of tumor cells was detected, and the expression of key proteins in the apoptosis pathway was verified by immunohistochemistry.

The intracellular ROS level in B16-F10 cells was enhanced by mAuNPs under carbon ion irradiation.
