Raising awareness of the importance of PFA can help initiate the process in fathers and better equip them to contribute during the antenatal period and to future child development. The immunomodulatory effects of extracorporeal photopheresis (ECP) have been used for the treatment of T-cell mediated disorders, such as rejection in organ transplantation. Currently, it is an established therapy for heart and lung rejection, but not for kidney transplantation (KT), where experience is limited. In addition, some data suggest that ECP could generate an immune response against infections, thus being an alternative for the treatment of rejection in case of active or high-risk of infection. In the present study, we analyze four cases of use of ECP as concomitant therapy in patients with KT and high risk of opportunistic infections due to the high burden of immunosuppression throughout their renal diseases. Two patients had concomitant viral infection (cytomegalovirus and BK virus, respectively) and three patients were on treatment for graft rejection. In the two patients with active viral infection, the infection was successfully controlled during ECP treatment. In all cases, ECP has been shown to be a safe procedure, without complications.
This study was aimed to compare the efficiency of the anterior palatoplasty and expansion sphincter pharyngoplasty (APwESP) technique for all patterns of velopharyngeal obstruction (anterior-posterior [APPC], lateral [LPC], or combined circular pharyngeal collapse [CPC]).
The study was designed as a randomized prospective trial at Kâtip Çelebi University, Atatürk Training, and Research Hospital.
Patients only with velopharyngeal obstruction were included. Three groups were created according to the obstruction pattern (APPC, LPC, and CPC) for the study. Outcome parameters included patient's demographics, apnea-hypopnea index (AHI), lowest oxygen saturation (LOS), Stanford subjective scale of snoring (SSSS), and Epworth sleepiness scale (ESS).
Thirty-one (34.1%) patients were in APPC group, while 30 (33.0%) patients were in LPC, and 30 (33.0%) were in CPC group. Preoperatively for all patients, on average, AHI was 33.4 ± 13.6, SSSS was 8.3 ± 1.0, ESS was 16.5 ± 2.6, and LOS was determined as 85.5 ± 3.6. There was a significant postoperative improvement in all parameters for all patients. There was no significant difference in outcome parameters between the groups according to obstruction pattern postoperatively. After APwESP surgery, obstruction pattern was not a significant factor for AHI (P=.234), SSSS (P=.180), and LOS (P=.280) (repeated measure analysis of variance test). The rate of surgical success was detected similarly for both of the study groups (P=.435). The rate of successful surgery for severe obstructive sleep apnea in the APPC group was 72.2%, 88.2% in the LPC group, and 75.0% in the CPC group (P=.472).
A combination of APwESP surgery can manage all types of pharyngeal obstruction confidently.

3 Laryngoscope, 2021.Plants have evolved sophisticated regulatory networks to cope with dynamically changing light and temperature environments during day-night and seasonal cycles. However, the integration mechanisms of light and low temperature remain largely unclear. Here, we show that low red far-red ratio (LR FR) induces FAR-RED ELONGATED HYPOCOTYL3 (SlFHY3) transcription under cold stress in tomato (Solanum lycopersicum). Reverse genetic approaches revealed that knocking out SlFHY3 decreases myo-inositol accumulation and increases cold susceptibility, whereas overexpressing SlFHY3 induces myo-inositol accumulation and enhances cold tolerance in tomato plants. SlFHY3 physically interacts with ELONGATED HYPOCOTYL5 (SlHY5) to promote the transcriptional activity of SlHY5 on MYO-INOSITOL-1-PHOSPHATE SYNTHASE 3 (SlMIPS3) and induce myo-inositol accumulation in tomato plants under cold stress. Disruption of SlHY5 and SlMIPS3 largely suppresses the cold tolerance of SlFHY3-overexpressing plants and myo-inositol accumulation in tomato. Furthermore, silencing of SlMIPS3 drastically reduces myo-inositol accumulation and compromises LR FR-induced cold tolerance in tomato. Together, our results reveal a crucial role of SlFHY3 in LR FR-induced cold tolerance in tomato and unravel a novel regulatory mechanism whereby plants integrate dynamic environmental light signals and internal cues (inositol biosynthesis) to induce and control cold tolerance in tomato plants.Due to the need to develop locally available, cheaper, and efficacious treatment regimens for breast cancer, the chemopreventive effect of kolaviron (KV), an extract of Garcinia kola seeds was examined. Fifty (50) female Wistar rats (120-180 g) were assigned to five groups (control group, 7, 12 dimethylbenzanthracene [DMBA] groups, tamoxifen group) of 10 rats each. They were pre-treated with KV thrice a week for four weeks except control. Estrogen receptor-α (ER-α) levels were determined in the pre-treated rats before induction of mammary carcinogenesis. After the four weeks pre-treatment period, 80 mg/kg of DMBA was used for induction. A hundred and fifty (150) days after induction, the rats were sacrificed humanely. Significantly higher levels of ER-α, formation of lobular neoplastic cells, epithelial hyperplasia, lymphocyte infiltration, increased cytokines (interleukin-6 [IL-6] and tumor necrosis factor-α [TNF-α]), CYP1A1 activity and malondialdehyde (MDA) with a corresponding decrease in superoxide dismus that provide a basis for these claims are still needed. This study provides evidence that points to the ameliorative potential of KV on breast cancer model. The results will be beneficial to local communities who hitherto had no knowledge on the potential of G. kola in chemoprevention. The results from this study will also attract further research attention from the international scientific community to examine the anti-cancer benefits of G. kola. This will also be beneficial to the global community due to the increasing number of breast cancer cases recorded annually.
Nursing care is a holistic practice that contains biological, psychological, sociological, and spiritual elements. Rapamycin molecular weight Spiritual care is also one of the core aspects of a holistic care approach, The provision of optimal spiritual care requires a good understanding of the issue by nurses. The present study determines the competencies of nursing students in spiritual care and the status of spiritual caregiving.
The study has a descriptive, cross-sectional, and qualitative research method of answers to follow-up questions. The study was conducted with 468 nursing students who are 1-4 years in a BSN program in Turkey. Personal information form, semi-structured interview form, Spiritual Caregiving Scale, and Spiritual Care Competence Scale were used for the collection of data.
The average scores recorded by the participants in the Spiritual Caregiving and Spiritual Care Competence Scales were 145.60 ± 20.63 (the perception of spirituality and spiritual care is moderate-high) and 102.92 ± 15.67 (the competence of the nurse in spiritual care is moderate-high), respectively. It was found that nearly half of the respondent students had never heard of the concept of spiritual care, nor did they have any knowledge of such care, and almost none had undergone training in this subject.
Important to add spiritual care to the nursing curriculum as a separate course or subject, and to raise awareness of students through applied teaching methods.

Erenumab is a monoclonal antibody for the prophylactic treatment of migraine. We describe the first cases of xerostomia probably induced by this drug.
We present two patients diagnosed with chronic migraine who started treatment with erenumab and presented with dry mouth after the first and second dose.
Xerostomia is not described as an adverse reaction in the drug's technical datasheet. A search was made in PubMed including 'erenumab', 'fremanezumab', 'galcanezumab', 'xerostomia', and no results were found. It is necessary to identify this potential adverse reaction in order to estimate its prevalence and possible impact on patients' quality of life.

Several studies have described associations between ABO blood group and SARS-CoV-2 infection severity in hospitalized patients where group A individuals are over-represented and group O individuals may have a lower infection rate. In convalescent individuals, group B blood donors have higher neutralizing SARS-CoV-2 antibody titers. We analyzed whether there was any correlation of ABO Rh(D) blood group with SARS-CoV-2 infection and with neutralizing antibodies in Australian convalescent plasma (CP) donors.
ABO Rh(D) distribution and demographics of CP donors (n=765) were compared with the total blood donor panel (n=488,028), plasmapheresis donors (n=203,176) and whole blood donors (n=282,437) from 2020. The presence of neutralizing antibodies in CP donors was measured using the Vero E6 cell microneutralization assay.
The distribution of ABO group in CP donors compared to the total donor panel was not significantly different (p=.177). There were significantly more group AB donors in the plasmapheresis sub
In this study, we assessed gustatory function and whole-mouth saliva in healthy adults and investigated the association between gustatory function, salivary flow rate (SFR), and dry mouth.
Descriptive clinical study.
We recruited 413 participants who reported a normal sense of smell-taste, comprising 206 females and 207 males with an age range of 19 to 80 years. Taste scores were obtained using whole-mouth tests to evaluate the gustatory function, SFR was assessed using the spitting method, and dry mouth was measured with the visual analog scale.
The total taste score (TTS) and SFR were significantly negatively correlated with age (r
=-0.522, P < .001; r
=-0.200, P < .001) TTS was significantly lower after the age of 50 and SFR decreased significantly after age 65. Women exhibited a significantly higher TTS than men (P < .001). However, there was no effect of sex on SFR. Dry mouth was negatively correlated with TTS (r=-0.223, P < .01) and SFR (r=-0.218, P < .01). Multiple regression analysis showed the independent variables of age, sex, and dry mouth predicted 34% of the variation in taste, while the independent variables of age and dry mouth predicted 6.
