Despite growing interest in formative assessment of teacher practices, research on rates of change in teachers' practices is sparse. This is the first study to examine the characteristics of observed change in classroom practices using the Classroom Strategies Assessment System (CSAS) across alternative schedules of data collection during instructional coaching. Our primary objectives included examining (a) the magnitude, variability, and precision of estimates of average rates of change in teacher practices and (b) the impact of data collection duration (i.e., number of weeks of data collection) and density (i.e., the number of classroom observations per week) on the precision of estimates of rates of change over time. A sample of teachers (N = 63) participating in instructional coaching was observed 14 times during coaching using the CSAS. Findings revealed a significant gradual improvement in strategy use, with significant between-teacher variation in rates of change. The frequency of observations was associated with the precision of estimates for average rates of change across teachers and for individual teachers, providing initial guidance on minimum number of observations required to monitor change in practice over time. Yet teachers commonly struggle to effectively implement these practices, imploring the provision of implementation supports within a multitiered framework for promoting teachers' practices. Few studies have examined the effects of Tier I implementation supports for classroom management, and none have examined universal implementation within naturalistic school contexts and used strategies that go beyond a "train and hope" approach. Employing a sample of urban, elementary, general education classrooms, this study offers a pilot evaluation of a Tier I implementation support package for promoting teachers' delivery of effective praise for students' behavior. Preliminary results suggest the implementation support package was linked with increases in teachers' behavior-specific praise, heightened praise-to-correction ratios, and increases in students' on-task behavior. Future directions of empirical and practical development are discussed. However, commodity ambiguities pose challenges and design concerns exist regarding current MPTs. The aim of this 2-phase study was to modify and improve a MPT using qualitative methods. Phase I Focus groups were conducted with regular (i.e., average use ≥ once/week) cannabis users (n = 31; 6-7 per group M[SD] age = 26 [7]; 28% female). Focus groups followed a semistructured agenda, and executive summaries were made concerning key MPT themes. Feedback was used to refine the MPT. Phase II Cognitive interviews using the refined MPT were conducted with regular cannabis users (n = 20; M[SD] age = 28 [8]; 50% female). Phase I Focus group analyses highlighted 4 critical areas for MPT improvement (a) unit of purchase, (b) cannabis quality, (c) time duration specified for use episode, and (d) price. Participants suggested using grams as the unit of purchase, tailoring cannabis quality to the individual, and clarifying intended episode length. Phase II Cognitive interviewing indicated additional areas for task refinement, resulting in a second iteration of the MPT based on the 2 phases. Qualitative research in both phases suggested a number of substantive modifications to the MPT format. Using a dimensional design, the current study examined cannabis use severity and age of first cannabis use in relation to neurocognitive performance and ADHD symptoms in a large sample of community adults (N = 1,008, Mage = 38.49, 56.0% female). Participants were assessed for cannabis involvement, neurocognitive performance, and ADHD symptoms. Dimensional relationships were investigated using multiple hierarchical regressions. Using a covariate model of age, income, sex, alcohol use, and tobacco use, severity of cannabis involvement was significantly associated with greater endorsement of both hyperactive-impulsive and inattentive ADHD symptoms but not with any other cognitive measures in the full sample. Exploratory analyses found greater cannabis use severity was associated with digit span forward and hyperactive ADHD symptoms in young adults (n = 371) and was associated with greater delay discounting, hyperactive, and impulsive ADHD symptoms in high-risk cannabis users (n = 161). Age of first cannabis use was not significantly associated with any neurocognitive variables or ADHD symptomatology in all analyses. The current findings provide evidence of a link between current cannabis misuse and both hyperactive and inattentive ADHD symptoms in general, and possible links to attention and impulsive delay discounting in subgroups of cannabis users, but no associations in other cognitive domains or implication of earlier initiation of cannabis use in relation to cognitive performance or ADHD. A notable contribution of this approach is the conceptualization of reinforcement from a behavioral economic demand perspective. Demand analyses provide a multidimensional view of reinforcement in which distinct behavioral mechanisms are measured that impact decision making and drug consumption. This review describes the state of research on behavioral economic demand as a common language for addiction science researchers across varied model systems and stages of a translational continuum. We first provide an overview of the theoretical concepts and procedures used to evaluate demand in animal and human models. The potential for demand to serve as a common language for diverse research groups in psychopharmacology and addiction science (e.g., those evaluating neurobehavioral outcomes, medications development, clinical practice) is then described. An overview is also provided of existing empirical studies that, while small in number, suggest good linguistic and conceptual overlap between animal and human demand models when studying biological, environmental, and pharmacological individual difference vulnerabilities underlying drug-taking behavior. Refinement of methodological procedures and incorporation of more nuanced environmental features should help improve correspondence between animal and human demand studies as well as clinical translation of such findings. Our hope is that this review and commentary ultimately serves as inspiration for new collaborative efforts involving behavioral economic demand between animal and human researchers who share a common goal of improving substance use treatment outcomes and broader psychological wellbeing. Although opioid-dependent individuals are particularly vulnerable to tobacco addiction, more research is needed to elucidate whether and to what extent their motivation to smoke differs from not-opioid-dependent smokers controlling for potential sociodemographic differences. Participants were 173 women (65 opioid-dependent) in an ongoing clinical trial for smoking cessation. Baseline CPT responses were compared between opioid-dependent and not-opioid-dependent women using five demand indices Demand Intensity; Omax; Pmax; Breakpoint (BP); and α, and two latent factors Amplitude and Persistence. Final regression models adjusted for sociodemographic characteristics differing between the two groups. Opioid-dependent women had greater demand Intensity (i.e., number of cigarettes they would smoke if they were free) than not-opioid dependent women in the adjusted model, F(1, 156) = 6.93, p = .016. No other demand indices differed significantly. Regarding latent factors, demand Amplitude (i.e., volumetric consumption), but not Persistence (i.e., price insensitivity), was greater for opioid-dependent women in the adjusted model, F(1, 146) = 4.04, p = .046. These results further demonstrate that the CPT is a highly sensitive task that can illuminate potentially important individual and population differences in the relative reinforcing value of smoking. Discounting is measured using a series of intertemporal choices between smaller, sooner outcomes and larger, later outcomes. We used a surrogate delay discounting task to explore whether such choices would differ if a hypothetical recipient was a smoker or was an individual with good health habits. Across three studies, the descriptions of the recipient included only information about smoking status (n = 66), smoking status and equal annual income (n = 47), and smoking status and equal weekly expenditures (n = 42). Higher rates of delay discounting for the smoker recipient compared to the nonsmoker recipient were observed across all three studies. These results parallel previous findings showing group differences in discounting between actual smokers and nonsmokers. The study follows up the previously reported sample to examine the longitudinal clinical effect of the visual biofeedback intervention on symptoms of acute stress at 2 days postpartum and subsequent symptoms of PTS-FC at 1 month postpartum. METHOD A sample of 26 nulliparous women received visual biofeedback and was compared to a group of women receiving standard obstetrical coaching.
