π-Conjugated polyelectrolytes (CPEs) have been studied as interlayers on top of a separate hole transport layer (HTL) to improve the wetting, interfacial defect passivation, and crystal growth of perovskites. However, very few CPE-based HTLs have been reported without rational molecular design as ideal HTLs for perovskite solar cells (PeSCs). In this study, the authors synthesize a triphenylamine-based anionic CPE (TPAFS-TMA) as an HTL for p-i-n-type PeSCs. TPAFS-TMA has appropriate frontier molecular orbital (FMO) levels similar to those of the commonly used poly(bis(4-phenyl)-2,4,6-trimethylphenylamine) (PTAA) HTL. The ionic and semiconducting TPAFS-TMA shows high compatibility, high transmittance, appropriate FMO energy levels for hole extraction and electron blocking, as well as defect passivating properties, which are confirmed using various optical and electrical analyses. Thus, the PeSC with the TPAFS-TMA HTL exhibits the best power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 20.86%, which is better than that of the PTAA-based device (PCE of 19.97%). In addition, it exhibits negligible device-to-device variations in its photovoltaic performance, contrary to the device with PTAA. Finally, a large-area PeSC (1 cm2 ) and mini-module (3 cm2 ), showing PCEs of 19.46% and 18.41%, respectively, are successfully fabricated. The newly synthesized TPAFS-TMA may suggest its great potential as an HTL for large-area PeSCs.A robust, affordable and portable light emitting diode-based diagnostic tools (POLS-NIRDx) using a polarization-sensitive (linear as well as circular polarization) technique were designed and developed to quantify the degree of linear polarization (DOLP), degree of circular polarization (DOCP). The study was performed on malignant (invasive ductal carcinoma) and adjacent normal ex-vivo biopsy tissues excised from N = 10 patients at the operating wavelengths of 850 and 940 nm. The average DOLP and DOCP values were lower for malignant than adjacent normal while operating at 850 and 940 nm. The highest accuracy was observed for DOLP (100%) and DOCP (80%) while operating at 850 nm, which reduced (80% for DOLP and 65% for DOCP) at 940 nm. This pilot study can be utilized as a differentiating factor to delineate malignant tissues from adjacent normal tissues.Due to the current and future scenario in which phenomena such as global warming, massive industrial waste, excessive pollution of the ecosystem, water scarcity, among other negative variables, our planet and society, faces the urgent need to advance in the generation of more sustainable and environmentally friendly mining methods. The decline in the quality of the geological resources, specifically the increase of low-grade minerals, has created a scenario under which mining companies must make great efforts to maintain their current production levels.
To describe the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in medical literature and trial data extraction, and its applications in uro-oncology. This bridging review, which consolidates information from the diverse applications of AI, highlights how AI users can investigate more sophisticated queries than with traditional methods, leading to synthesis of raw data and complex outputs into more actionable and personalised results, particularly in the field of uro-oncology.
Literature and clinical trial searches were performed in PubMed, Dimensions, Embase and Google (1999-2020). The searches focussed on the use of AI and its various forms to facilitate literature searches, clinical guidelines development, and clinical trial data extraction in uro-oncology. To illustrate how AI can be applied to address questions about optimising therapeutic decision making and individualising treatment regimens, the Dimensions-linked information platform was searched for 'prostate cancer' keywords (76 publications were identifiedonal methods.
As the literature and clinical trial landscape continues to grow in complexity and with increasing speed, the ability to pull the right information at the right time from different search engines and resources, while excluding social media bias, becomes more challenging. This review demonstrates that by applying natural language processing and machine learning algorithms, validated and optimised AI leads to a speedier, more personalised, efficient, and focussed search compared with traditional methods.
The cost of Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion (MIC) significantly affects a wide range of sectors. This study aims to assess the efficiency of a novel technology based on the use of plasma-activated water (PAW) in inhibiting corrosion caused by bacteria.
This study evaluated the effectiveness of PAW, produced by a plasma bubble reactor, in reducing corrosion causing Pseudomonas aeruginosa planktonic cells in tap water and biofilms were grown onto stainless steel (SS) coupons. Planktonic cells and biofilms were treated with PAW at different discharge frequencies (500-1500Hz) and exposure times (0-20min). P. aeruginosa cells in tap water were significantly reduced after treatment, with higher exposure times and discharge frequencies achieving higher reductions. Also, PAW treatment led to a gradual reduction for young and mature biofilms, achieving >4-Log reductions after 20min. Results were also used to develop two predictive inactivation models.
This work presents evidence that PAW can be used to inactivate both planktonic cells and biofilms of P. aeruginosa. Experimental and theoretical results also demonstrate that reduction is dependent on discharge frequency and exposure time.
This work demonstrates the potential of using PAW as means to control MIC.

The criteria of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders 5th edition "with mixed features specifier" (DSM-5 MFS) are considered controversial since they include only typical manic symptoms. By contrast, Koukopoulos developed an alternative model of mixed depression (MxD) focusing primarily on the excitatory component.
To compare DSM-5 MFS and Koukopoulos' MxD (KMxD) in terms of prevalence, associated clinical variables, and discriminative capacity for bipolar depression in patients with major depressive episode (MDE).
A total of 300 patients with MDE-155 with major depressive disorder and 145 with bipolar disorder (BD)-were recruited. The discriminative capacity of DSM-5 MFS and KMxD criteria for BD was estimated using the area under the curves of receiver operating characteristic (ROC_AUC). The clinical variables associated with these two diagnostic constructs were assessed by performing a logistic regression.
A total of 44 and 165 patients met the DSM-5 MFS and KMxD criteria, respec with clinical variables related to mixedness.d-Phenyllactate (PLA) is a component of the selective Gq protein inhibitor and nonribosomal cyclic depsipeptide FR900359 (FR). Here we report a detailed biochemical investigation of PLA biosynthesis and its incorporation into the natural product FR. The enzyme FrsC, member of the lactate/malate dehydrogenase superfamily, was shown to catalyze the formation of l-PLA from phenylpyruvate. FrsC was kinetically characterized and its substrate specificity determined. Incorporation of l-PLA was probed by assaying the adenylation domain FrsE-A3 and feeding studies with a Chromobacterium vaccinii ΔfrsC mutant, confirming preferred activation of l-PLA followed by on-line epimerization to d-PLA. Finally, detailed bioinformatic analyses of FrsC revealed its close relation to malate dehydrogenases from primary metabolism and suggest extensions in the substrate binding loop to be responsible for its adaptation to accepting larger aromatic substrates with high specificity.
To investigate whether patient-reported urinary incontinence (UI) and bother scores after radical prostatectomy (RP) result in subsequent intervention with UI surgery.
Men diagnosed with prostate cancer in the English National Health Service between April 2014 and January 2016 were identified. Administrative data were used to identify men who had undergone a RP and those who subsequently underwent a UI procedure. The National Prostate Cancer Audit database was used to identify men who had also completed a post-treatment survey. These surveys included the Expanded Prostate Cancer Composite Index (EPIC-26). The frequency of subsequent UI procedures, within 6 months of the survey, was explored according to EPIC-26 UI scores. The relationship between 'good' (≥75) or 'bad' (≤25) EPIC-26 UI scores and perceptions of urinary bother was also explored (responses ranging from 'no problem' to 'big problem' with respect to their urinary function).
We identified 11 290 men who had undergone a RP. The 3-year cumulatinefit from UI surgery.Due to the high prevalence of mental illness in the general population, genetic counselors are likely to encounter patients with mental illness in practice, regardless of specialty. However, previous studies have shown that recent graduates of genetic counseling programs do not feel comfortable discussing mental illness in clinical encounters. find more One possible explanation for this discomfort is stigma toward mental illness, a well-documented phenomenon both in society and in the healthcare field. Previous studies of this phenomenon in genetic counselors and trainees have relied on self-report measures and are vulnerable to social desirability bias. We sought to gain a holistic understanding of attitudes toward mental illness held by genetic counseling trainees by measuring implicit and explicit biases. This study assessed 141 responses from genetic counseling students and recent graduates from master's graduate programs across North America. They were asked to complete a survey, which included a demographic questn of services to this population.Magnetoelectric (ME) materials exhibiting coupled electric and magnetic properties are of significant interest because of their potential use in memory storage devices, new sensors, or low-consumption devices. Herein, we report a new category of ME material that shows liquid crystal (LC), ferroelectric (FE), and field-induced single molecule magnet (SMM) behaviors. Co(II) complex incorporating alkyl chains of type [Co(3C16 -bzimpy)2 ](BF4 )2 (1; 3C16 -bzimpy=2,2'-(4-hexadecyloxy-2,6-diyl)bis(1-hexadecyl-1H-benzo[d]imidazole)) displayed a chiral smectic C mesophase in the temperature range 321 K-458 K, in which distinct FE behavior was observed, with a remnant polarization (88.3 nC cm-2 ). Complex 1 also exhibited field-induced slow magnetic relaxation behavior that reflects the large magnetic anisotropy of the Co(II) center. Furthermore, the dielectric property of 1 was able to be tuned by an external magnetic field occurring from both spin-lattice coupling and molecular orientational variation. Clearly, this multifunctional compound, combining LC, FE, and SMM properties, represents an entry to the development of a range of next-generation ME materials.
To investigate the effect of therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) on lowering triglyceride (TG) levels in patients with hypertriglyceridemic pancreatitis (HLAP).
The TG-lowering in patients with HLAP was compared between the TPE group and conservative treatment group (non-TPE). The primary outcome was TG reduction to less than 500 mg/dL within 48 hours.
The primary outcome was significantly correlated with TPE (univariate analysis odds ratio [OR] 2.74; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.30-5.79, P=.008; multivariate analysis OR 3.03; 95% CI 1.28-7.19, P=.012). At 24 and 48 hours, conservative treatment resulted in a 48.24% and 70.44% reduction in TG, while TPE resulted in a 70.91% and 76.39% reduction in TG, respectively. A more rapid decrease of in TGs in a short period was clearly associated with TPE (P < .001 for interaction). After 72 hours, the TGs decreased by approximately 77% in both groups, with no significant difference (P=.563). There was no difference between groups in clinical outcomes over the acute time period or over the longer term.
