Twin vaginal deliveries (VDs) are often performed in the operating room (OR) given the risk of conversion to cesarean delivery (CD) for the aftercoming twin. We aim to investigate the rates of conversion to CD for planned twin VDs and identify predictors and outcomes of conversion.
A retrospective cohort study of all women who underwent a planned twin VD at two large academic medical centers over 4 years. Demographic and outcome data were chart abstracted. Various statistical tests were used to evaluate the influence of perinatal variables on mode of delivery and identify possible predictors of conversion.
Eight hundred and eighty-five twin deliveries were identified, of which 725 (81.9%) were possible candidates for VD. Of those, 237 (32.7%) underwent successful VD of twin A. Ninety-five (40.1%) had a nonvertex second twin at time of delivery. Conversion to CD occurred in 10 planned VDs (4.2%). Conversions were higher with spontaneous labor (relative risk [RR] 2.1; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.6-2 no significant differences in perinatal outcomes with conversion..

It is known that phytohormone jasmonate (JA) plays an essential role in regulating latex biosynthesis. However, it is unclear how the JA signal is sensed in a rubber tree. Here, we showed that H. brasiliensis CORONATINE-INSENSITIVE 1 (HbCOI1) acts as a receptor that perceives JA to recruit H. brasiliensis JASMONATE ZIM DOMAIN1 (HbJAZ1) for signal transduction. We found that HbCOI1 restores male sterility and JA responses of the coi1-1 mutant in Arabidopsis. The identification of a JA receptor in the rubber tree is essential for elucidating the molecular mechanisms underlying JA-regulated latex biosynthesis. Our results elucidate the mechanism of JA perception in H. brasiliensis and also provide an efficient strategy to identify JA receptors in woody plants.

To examine the influences of sex, school level, school location, concussion-reporting history, and socioeconomic status on concussion-related knowledge, attitudes, and reporting intentions among middle school and high school athletes.
Cross-sectional study.
Master students and High School athletes attending pre-participation examinations (PPEs) were asked to complete paper-based surveys.
Overall, 541 athletes representing 18 sports returned fully completed surveys.
Outcomes were concussion-related knowledge, perceived seriousness, positive feelings about reporting, and self-reporting intentions. We examined group differences in these outcomes across levels of the explanatory variables of sex, school level (middle school versus high school), school location (urban versus rural), concussion self-reporting history (yes or no), and socioecondge, attitudes, and self-reporting intentions. These results can inform medical providers, parents, and coaches with regard to context-specific clinical assessments of concussion symptoms.

The transformation of N into crop production results from intricate pathways, depending on plants, as well as the environment and fertilization regimes, which affect the N-use efficiency (NUE) of plants. In this context, lemon trees [Citrus limon (L.) Burm. f.] attain maximum harvest index at lower leaf N concentrations compared with sweet orange trees [Citrus sinensis (L.) Osbeck], and the processes governing these plant responses are not well known. The aim of this study was to understand how the higher NUE in lemons trees is constructed based on growth and biomass partitioning evaluation, as well as photochemical and biochemical characteristics of photosynthesis. To attain this goal, we evaluated growth, photosynthesis and biochemical characteristics in lemon and sweet orange trees under two different N levels over 14 months. We hypothesized that higher NUE in lemon trees is affected by plant capacity to grll (ETR/chlor 350-850) compared with orange trees (ETR/chlor 300-550) at both low and at high N supply. These characteristics were likely associated with transport facilitation of CO2 to the catalytic sites of plants. In fact, improved growth of lemon trees results from an array of events explained mostly by increase in leaf area and associated low construction cost despite N supply.Nervonic acid (241) is a major component in nerve and brain tissues and it has important applications in food and pharmaceutical industries. Malania oleifera seeds contain about 40% nervonic acid. However, the mechanism of nervonic acid biosynthesis and accumulation in seeds of this endangered tree species remains unknown. In this study, developmental changes in fatty acid composition within embryos and their pericarps were investigated. Nervonic acid proportions steadily increased in developing embryos but 241 was not detected in pericarps at any stage. Belnacasan Two 3-ketoacyl-CoA synthase (KCS) homologs have been isolated from M. oleifera developing seeds by homologous cloning methods. Both KCSs are expressed in developing embryos but not detected in pericarps. Based on a phylogenetic analysis, these two KCSs were named as MoKCS4 and MoKCS11. Seed-specific expression of the MoKCS11 in Arabidopsis thaliana led to about 5% nervonic acid accumulation, while expression of the MoKCS4 did not show an obvious change in fatty acid composition.
