Three-dimensional echocardiography (3DE) is the most accurate cardiac ultrasound technique to assess cardiac structure. 3DE has shown close correlation with cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) in various populations. There is limited data on the accuracy of 3DE in athletes and its value in detecting alterations during follow-up. Indexed left and right ventricular end-diastolic volume (LVEDVi, RVEDVi), end-systolic volume, ejection fraction (LVEF, RVEF) and left ventricular mass (LVMi) were assessed by 3DE and CMR in two-hundred and one competitive endurance athletes (79% male) from the Pro@Heart trial. Sixty-four athletes were assessed at 2 year follow-up. Linear regression and Bland-Altman analyses compared 3DE and CMR at baseline and follow-up. Interquartile analysis evaluated the agreement as cardiac volumes and mass increase. 3DE showed strong correlation with CMR (LVEDVi r = 0.91, LVEF r = 0.85, LVMi r = 0.84, RVEDVi r = 0.84, RVEF r = 0.86 p  less then  0.001). At follow up, the percentage change by 3DE and CMR were similar (∆LVEDVi r = 0.96 bias - 0.3%, ∆LVEF r = 0.94, bias 0.7%, ∆LVMi r = 0.94 bias 0.8%, ∆RVESVi r = 0.93, bias 1.2%, ∆RVEF r = 0.87 bias 0.4%). 3DE underestimated volumes (LVEDVi bias - 18.5 mL/m2, RVEDVi bias - 25.5 mL/m2) and the degree of underestimation increased with larger dimensions (Q1vsQ4 LVEDVi relative bias - 14.5 versus - 17.4%, p = 0.016; Q1vsQ4 RVEDVi relative bias - 17 versus - 21.9%, p = 0.005). Measurements of cardiac volumes, mass and function by 3DE correlate well with CMR and 3DE accurately detects changes over time. 3DE underestimates volumes and the relative bias increases with larger cardiac size.Biomarkers defining biological age are typically laborious or expensive to assess. Instead, in the current study, we identified parameters based on standard laboratory blood tests across metabolic, cardiovascular, inflammatory, and kidney functioning that had been assessed in the Berlin Aging Study (BASE) (n = 384) and Berlin Aging Study II (BASE-II) (n = 1517). We calculated biological age using those 12 parameters that individually predicted mortality hazards over 26 years in BASE. In BASE, older biological age was associated with more physician-observed morbidity and higher mortality hazards, over and above the effects of chronological age, sex, and education. Similarly, in BASE-II, biological age was associated with physician-observed morbidity and subjective health, over and above the effects of chronological age, sex, and education as well as alternative biomarkers including telomere length, DNA methylation age, skin age, and subjective age but not PhenoAge. We discuss the importance of biological age as one indicator of aging.

This study was designed to establish risk classifications for early recurrence in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients with microvascular invasion (MVI) after hepatectomy.

The data of 563 HCC patients with MVI after hepatectomy from two hospitals were retrospectively reviewed. Kaplan-Meier curves and Cox proportional hazards regression models were used to analyse early recurrence. The risk classification for early recurrence was established by using classification and regression tree (CART) analysis and validated by using two independent validation cohorts from two hospitals.

Multivariate analysis revealed that four indices, namely, infection of chronic viral hepatitis, MVI classification, tumour size, and serum alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), were independent prognostic factors for early recurrence in HCC patients with MVI. By CART analysis, MVI classification and serum AFP became the nodes of a decision tree and 3-stratification classifications that satisfactorily determined the risk of early recurrence were established. The area under the time-dependent receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) values of the classification for early recurrence at 0.5, 1.0, and 2.0 years were 0.75, 0.73, and 0.71, respectively, which were all significantly higher than three common classic HCC stages (BCLC stage, Chinese stage, and TNM stage). The calibration curves showed good agreement between predictions by classification for early recurrence and actual survival outcomes. These prediction results also were confirmed in the independent internal and external validation cohorts.

Optimal treatment for thymoma with pleural dissemination (TPD) remains unclear. Extended radical resection is the cornerstone for local treatment but the need for pleuro-pneumonectomy is debatable. Cytoreductive surgery with intraoperative hyperthermic intrathoracic chemotherapy (HITHOC) provides an alternative strategy to reduce tumor load and prevent pleural recurrence.

The aim of this review was to provide an overview of current literature regarding HITHOC for TPD.

A systematic literature review (PRISMA) was performed in the EMBASE, MEDLINE, Cochrane and Web of Science databases, resulting in 154 papers selected for screening (PROSPERO CRD42020208242). Title, abstract, and full-text screening resulted in 13 papers subjected to structured data extraction and methodological quality assessment. One additional case from our department was included. Inclusion criteria were original research reporting on patients diagnosed with TPD; oncological outcome reporting; intraoperative HITHOC; and papers written iOC in the TPD setting.

To explore the feasibility and performance of machine learning-based radiomics models in predicting thyroid transcription factor-1 (TTF-1) expression in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

A total of 227 NSCLC patients were included in this retrospective study and divided into the training set and test set with a ratio of 82 randomly. Lung tumors on CT images were semi-automatic segmented utilizing 3D Slicer. PACAP 1-38 manufacturer Radiomic features quantifying tumor intensity, shape, texture, and transformed wavelet were extracted using a Python toolkit. Variance threshold (VT), principal component analysis (PCA), and least absolute shrinkage selection operator (LASSO) were used to reduce features; logistic regression (LR), random forest (RF), and support vector machine (SVM) were used to develop classifier, respectively. The performance of the models was evaluated by areas under the curves (AUC) of receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. Different models were compared by the Delong test to determine the optimal algorithms.

Total 1968 radiomic features were extracted from the lung tumors images, and then 13, 15, and 13 stable features were selected by VT, PCA, and LASSO, respectively. Each classifier could discriminate against the TTF-1-positive groups with average AUC ranging from 0.601 to 0.784 in the training set. Among the models, three models constructed by the LASSO method showed satisfactory performance in the test set with AUC ranging from 0.715 to 0.787. The Delong test showed no significant difference between the LASSO models (P > 0.05).

Machine learning-based radiomics model could predict the expression of TTF-1 in NSCLC patients.Metabolic reprogramming has been recognised as a hallmark in solid tumours. Malignant modification of the tumour's bioenergetics provides energy for tumour growth and progression. Otto Warburg first reported these metabolic and biochemical changes in 1927. In prostate cancer (PCa) epithelial cells, the tumour metabolism also changes during development and progress. These alterations are partly driven by the androgen receptor, the key regulator in PCa development, progress, and survival. In contrast to other epithelial cells of different entities, glycolytic metabolism in prostate cells sustains physiological citrate secretion in the normal prostatic epithelium. In the early stages of PCa, citrate is utilised to power oxidative phosphorylation and fuel lipogenesis, enabling tumour growth and progression. In advanced and incurable castration-resistant PCa, a metabolic shift towards choline, amino acid, and glycolytic metabolism fueling tumour growth and progression has been described. Therefore, even if the metabolic changes are not fully understood, the altered metabolism during tumour progression may provide opportunities for novel therapeutic strategies, especially in advanced PCa stages. This review focuses on the main differences in PCa's metabolism during tumourigenesis and progression highlighting glutamine's role in PCa.Leather industry is the second largest export-earning sector of Pakistan. However, because of poor waste management, this industry has been continuously polluting the environment. In this paper, the impact of tanneries on the groundwater quality of Kasur city (i.e., the second largest leather producing city) is examined. The study is conducted in the following three phases (I) water samples collection, (II) determination of physio-chemical properties, and (III) application of data mining techniques. In phase I, groundwater samples were collected from various sources such as hand pumps, motor pumps, and tube wells. In phase II, several physio-chemical properties such as (i) total dissolved solids (TDS), (ii) pH, (iii) turbidity, (iv) electrical conductivity (EC), (v) total hardness (TH), (vi) total alkalinity (TA), (vii) nitrates, (viii) chromium, (ix) fluoride, and (x) chloride were estimated. The estimated values of all these foregoing parameters are then compared with the Punjab Environmental Quality Standards for Drinking Water (PEQSDW). In phase III, principle component analysis and cluster analysis of the estimated parameters were performed to elucidate the relation between various parameters and to highlight the highly vulnerable sites, respectively. The results exhibit that most of the sampling collections sites are at the threshold of losing quality water. Moreover, it is also found that Mangal Mandi carries the worst groundwater quality among all sampling locations. Overall, it is concluded that serious attention is due from the water and wastewater authorities to further investigate and monitor the groundwater quality of Kasur before the country strikes with another pandemic after COVID-19.

The purpose of this systematic review was to evaluate both the clinical and radiographic outcomes following supramalleolar osteotomy (SMO) in patients with ankle osteoarthritis, and to analyse the level of evidence (LOE) and quality of evidence(QOE) of the included studies.

A systematic review of the MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Cochrane Library databases was performed in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. Studies reporting clinical data following SMO for the treatment of ankle osteoarthritis were included and assessed. The level and quality of evidence of the included studies were also evaluated.

Twenty-four studies with 1160 patients (1182 ankles) were included. Overall, 78.8% patients presented with post-traumatic ankle osteoarthritis. The weighted mean AOFAS score improved from 52.6 ± 9.7 (range 33.8-78.4) preoperatively to 78.1 ± 5.7 postoperatively at weighted mean follow-up of 50.4 ±18.6months (range 24.5-99.0).  The most frequently utilised radiographic parameter was the tibial anterior surface angle, which improved from a preoperative weighted mean of 86.
