Although they can occur anywhere in the body and at any age, they are more frequently found in the skin of the head and neck regions and in the elderly. Few cases have been recorded in deep soft tissues and in parenchymal organs. Angiosarcomas of the urinary bladder are exceedingly rare. They usually arise in adult patients with a history of radiation therapy, cigarette smoking, or exposure to chemical agents (e.g., vinyl chloride). Despite multidisciplinary treatment approaches combining surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy, prognosis is dismal. Materials and Methods We describe a case of a 78-year-old Caucasian man presenting with a vesical mass incidentally discovered with abdominal computerized tomography (CT). He underwent transurethral resection of the bladder (TURB), and histology was compatible with angiosarcoma. Results The patient had been a heavy smoker and his medical history included therapeutic irradiation for prostate cancer eight years previously. Radical cystoprostatectomy was feasible, and pathologic examination of the surgical specimen confirmed angiosarcoma involving the urinary bladder, prostate, and seminal vesicles. Post-operative peritonitis resulted in progressive multi-organ failure and death. They tightly regulate actin dynamics and subsequent diverse cellular functions such as adhesion, migration, and spreading. Previous studies using podocyte-specific transgenic or knockout animal models have established that Rho GTPases are crucial for the podocyte health and barrier function. However, little attention has been paid regarding subcellular locations where distinct Rho GTPases contribute to specific functions. This review discusses the biological effects of β-glucans on bone metabolisms, especially on bone-resorbing osteoclasts, which are differentiated from hematopoietic precursors. Multiple immunoreceptors that can recognize β-glucans were reported to be expressed in osteoclast precursors. Coordinated co-stimulatory signals mediated by these immunoreceptors are important for the regulation of osteoclastogenesis and bone remodeling. Curdlan from the bacterium Alcaligenes faecalis negatively regulates osteoclast differentiation in vitro by affecting both the osteoclast precursors and osteoclast-supporting cells. We also showed that laminarin, lichenan, and glucan from baker's yeast, as well as β-1,3-glucan from Euglema gracilisas, inhibit the osteoclast formation in bone marrow cells. Consistent with these findings, systemic and local administration of β-glucan derived from Aureobasidium pullulans and Saccharomyces cerevisiae suppressed bone resorption in vivo. We use data from one of Australia's longest running studies of social and emotional development to examine the extent to which (1) mental health symptoms (depressive and anxiety symptoms) and substance use (weekly binge drinking, tobacco, and cannabis use) from adolescence (13-18 years) into young adulthood (19-28 years) predict gambling problems in adulthood (31-32 years); and (2) risk relationships differ by sex. Analyses were based on responses from 1365 adolescent and young adult participants, spanning seven waves of data collection (1998-2014). Persistent adolescent to young adult binge drinking, tobacco use and cannabis use predicted gambling at age 31-32 years (OR = 2.30-3.42). Binge drinking and tobacco use in young adulthood also predicted gambling at age 31-32 years (OR = 2.04-2.54). Prior mental health symptoms were not associated with gambling and no risk relationships differed by sex. Findings suggest that gambling problems in adulthood may be related to the earlier development of other addictive behaviours, and that interventions targeting substance use from adolescence to young adulthood may confer additional gains in preventing later gambling behaviours.BNT162b2 is a highly efficacious mRNA vaccine approved to prevent COVID-19. In recent years, the rapid development of Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) has led to opportunities and challenges for MEMS scanners. In this work, we propose a 2D electrostatically actuated micro raster scanner with relatively large aperture. The 2D scanner combines a resonant scanning axis driven by an in-plane comb and a quasistatic scanning axis driven by a vertical comb, which is achieved by raising the moving comb finger above the fixed comb finger through the residual stress gradient. The analytic formula for the resonant axis frequency, based on the mechanical coupling of two oscillation modes, is derived and compared with finite element simulation. A prototype is designed, fabricated, and tested, and an overall optical Field-of-View (FoV) of about 60° × 4° is achieved. Finally, some possibilities for further improvement or optimization are discussed.Postmortem studies are crucial for providing insight into emergent diseases. However, a complete autopsy is frequently not feasible in highly transmissible diseases due to biohazard challenges. Minimally invasive autopsy (MIA) is a needle-based approach aimed at collecting samples of key organs without opening the body, which may be a valid alternative in these cases. We aimed to (a) provide biosafety guidelines for conducting MIAs in COVID-19 cases, (b) compare the performance of MIA versus complete autopsy, and (c) evaluate the safety of the procedure. Between October and December 2020, MIAs were conducted in six deceased patients with PCR-confirmed COVID-19, in a basic autopsy room, with reinforced personal protective equipment. Samples from the lungs and key organs were successfully obtained in all cases. A complete autopsy was performed on the same body immediately after the MIA. The diagnoses of the MIA matched those of the complete autopsy. In four patients, COVID-19 was the main cause of death, being responsible for the different stages of diffuse alveolar damage.
