The open abdomen technique allows the surgeons to make the decision of colostomy or anastomosis in the second surgical look at 48-72 hours after the first treatment with irrigation and aspiration during AB-Thera.
The Open Abdomen technique is a valid therapeutic alternative approach for patients with acute diverticulitis disease in III and IV Hinchey grade. This therapeutic approach gives important advantages in patients with delayed colostomy.

To determine postoperative stress distribution after cemented arthroplasty in elderly patients with comminuted intertrochanteric fracture, and assist in determining a rational prosthetic stem length.
A three-dimensional (3D) model of intertrochanteric fracture was established using the Mimics and Unigraphics modeling software, which included the 3D model of comminuted intertrochanteric fracture, two long-stem(#4,#5) and one short stem(#3) prostheses, and the mantle layer of cement. The bone defect of the calcar femorale was replaced with a 5-mm thick cement. Then, the 3D finite element model of those materials was established, boundary conditions of force were imposed, and material parameters were set. Accordingly, a finite element analysis was performed to this model in stress.
(1) The stress of the femur in the three-stem replacement prosthesis models increased from proximal end to distal end in the same pattern, while a stress concentration region was found at 5 mm from within the distal tip of the short-stem prosthesis (#3), which had a peak value of 67.85 MPa. However, no stress concentration was found on the long-stem prosthesis model. (2) For the short-stem prosthesis, the stress distribution of the cement-prosthesis interface was significantly concentrated in the distal region around the prosthesis end, in which the peak value of the lateral interface exceeded the fatigue strength of the bone cement. However, the biomechanics for the long prosthesis was better appreciated.
Long prosthesis stems may theoretically be a better option for comminuted intertrochanteric fractures in elderly patients. However, the application of exceedingly long prosthesis stems would not be a better option.

The aim of this study was to compare the preoperative and postoperative (48th hour) total serum sialic acid levels of the patients with colon cancer and to investigate if the total serum sialic acid levels can be used as a tumor marker in colon cancer.
Preoperative and postoperative (48th hour) total serum sialic acid levels of 100 patients that were diagnosed with colon cancer and 70 healthy individuals were examined. All total serum sialic acid levels were determined by the methods of Warren.
Total sialic acid levels of both patient groups were significantly higher when compared to the control group (p<0.0001). Also, highly significant difference was found between preoperative and postoperative total serum sialic acid levels (p<0.001).
Evaluation of total serum sialic acid levels may play a critical role in colon cancers. Total serum sialic acid levels may serve as a non-invasive tool for early diagnosis of colon cancer.

Turkey declared the first case relatively late compared to Asian and European countries on March 11, as the first SARS-CoV-2 infection in Turkey. In this study, we aimed to determine patients' outcomes in 50 surgeries done in the incubation period of SARS-CoV-2 in our hospital.
We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 50 patients who underwent surgeries during the incubation period of CoVid-19 at Istinye University Gaziosmanpasa Medical Park Hospital in Istanbul, from March 2 to April 11, 2020.
The age of 50 patients range was 21 to 73, and the median age was 43.32 (64%) patients were women. The median length of hospital stay is 2.6 days (1-21). Operations at various difficulty levels were also performed on patients with co-morbidities. No complication or mortality was observed except for 1 patient, and the ICU requirement of that patient was also due to high energy trauma.
Although contrary claims have been made in various studies; it is the primary duty of us surgeons to operate CoVid-19 positive/suspicious patients safely and without any contamination, and on the other hand, to continue their operations without victimizing negative patients. In this pilot study, we would like to emphasize with necessary and adequate measures these can be achieved.

MATERİAL AND METHODS A total of 262 COVID-19-confirmed patients and 157 healthy controls were included in the study. Selleck MT-802 RESULTS The mean vitamin D level in the COVID-19 group (12.8±8.9 ng/mL) was significantly lower than the control group (15.2±12.1 ng/mL) (p=0.015). The rate of those with vitamin D levels below 10 ng/mL in the COVID- 19 group (49.6%) was significantly higher than the control group (39.5%) (p=0.044). In the logistic regression analysis, it was found that those with a vitamin D level below 10 ng/mL had a 1.508-fold increased risk of COVID-19 compared to those who had 10 ng/mL and above (Odds ratio 1.01-2.252). According to the risk analysis, those who have vitamin D levels below 20 ng/mL are 1,224 times higher than those who have 20 ng/mL and above; those under 30 ng/mL were found to have an increased risk of 2.01 times compared to those of 30 ng/mL and above. CONCLUSİONS From the point of view of the literature data, we think that the findings we obtained may support researches that vitamin D level is significantly associated with both COVID-19 and other infections and many serious autoimmune and malignant diseases. As a result, rehabilitation programs on vitamin D deficiency should be organized and the society should be raised. KEY WORDS Covid-19, Vitamin D25 (Oh) D.
