To evaluate erectile function (EF) after anastomotic (AU) vs substitutional urethroplasty (SU) for bulbar urethral stricture.
This was a prospective comparative non-randomised clinical study conducted in the Department of Urology, Benha University Hospital, between September 2015 and September 2018, involving 34 male patients with urethral stricture. Preoperatively, all the patients completed the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF)-15 (EF Domain) to establish baseline sexual function. AU was performed in 21 patients and SU in 13. selleck chemicals llc The IIEF-15 (EF Domain) was administered again at 3- and 6-months postoperatively and compared to the preoperative results.
A total of 34 patients were included in the study, 21 in the AU group with a stricture length of ≤3 cm, and 13 in the SU group with a stricture length of >3 cm. All patients were sexually active preoperatively. In the AU group, seven patients developed erectile dysfunction (ED) at 3-months postoperatively, with four of them improving during n; EF erectile function; IIEF International Index of Erectile Function; SU substitutional urethroplasty.Objectives To report the outcomes of Omani men diagnosed with localised prostate cancer (PCa), as PCa incidence is increasing in developing countries and there are scarce data regarding clinicopathological features and outcomes of PCa from the Arab world. Patients and methods All men diagnosed with localised PCa between January 2006 and December 2017, and treated at a university hospital in Oman were included in the study. Data included demographic information, clinical, laboratory, pathological and radiological features at presentation, treatment modalities, and survival outcomes. Patients were followed until April 2019 or until death for disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) whichever came first. Survival rates were estimated using the method of Kaplan and Meier. Univariate and multivariate analysis and Cox regression analyses were performed to study factors affecting DFS and OS. Results Out of 239 men diagnosed with PCa over the study period, only 47 had localised disease (19.7%). To evaluate the clinical prognostic value of preoperative serum De Ritis ratio (DRR; aspartate aminotransferase/alanine aminotransferase) on postoperative survival outcomes in patients with radiation-recurrent prostate cancer (PCa) who underwent salvage radical prostatectomy (SRP).
A retrospective review was conducted of patients with radiation-recurrent PCa who underwent SRP in five tertiary referral centres from 2007 to 2015. An increased preoperative serum DRR was defined as ≥1.35. The association between DRR and postoperative outcomes was tested. Multivariate Cox analyses were performed to identify the independent predictors of biochemical recurrence (BCR), metastases-free survival (MFS), overall survival (OS), and cancer-specific survival (CSS).
Overall 214 patients underwent SRP, of them 98 (45.8%) with a high serum DRR were included in the study. In a multivariate analysis high DRR was an independent predictor of BCR [hazard ratio (HR) 1.79, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.16-2.78;

Methods A systemic search was carried out using PubMed and Web of Science databases following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. We retrieved a total of 349 articles. All the articles were in the English language and investigated the incidence of PCa in patients with IBD. Results Nine studies met our inclusion criteria, with a total of 205 037 men. Two studies reported an increase in the risk of PCa in men with IBD in general. Five other studies reported an increased risk of PCa in men with UC or with CD specifically. On the other hand, two studies reported a decreased risk of PCa in patients with UC and patients with IBD treated with aminosalicylates. Conclusions While men with UC appear to have higher risk of developing PCa, data on patients with CD are inconclusive. Therefore, patients with UC may benefit from earlier PCa screening. Our findings confirm a complex interplay between IBD and PCa, including factors such as genetic predisposition, systemic inflammation and treatment effects. The modulatory effect of treatment strategies for IBD on the development and progression of PCa might be of clinical significance. This retrospective cohort study is aimed at determining the safety and efficacy between Femoral Open-Cutdown access and Percutaneous access with Endovascular Aneurysm Repair (EVAR) by contrasting perioperative complication rates. We hypothesized that the percutaneous approach is a better alternative for aortic aneurysm patients as it is minimally invasive and has been demonstrated to decrease the length of hospital stay.
We retrospectively reviewed data for patients undergoing EVAR between the years of 2005 and 2013. We then compared overall mortality, hematoma or seroma formation, graft infection, arterio-venous injury, distal embolization, limb loss, myocardial infarction or arrhythmia, and renal dysfunction. Results were demonstrated using a retrospective cohort study design to confirm the hematoma rate associated with EVAR open compared to percutaneous access.
Our series involves 73 patients who underwent percutaneous access for EVAR (
= 49) or traditional open cutdown (
= 24). Percutaneous access resulted in significantly less hematoma formation when compared to the traditional open cutdown (4% vs.
