In addition, LU inspection experiments are designed and conducted to obtain the A- and B-scan plots of different defects in the WAAM sample. Finally, quantitative inspection of the artificial defects is realized by analyzing the A- and B-scan plots. This paper verifies the feasibility of LU inspection of WAAM components without surface machining. Many lung disease processes are characterized by structural and functional heterogeneity that is not directly appreciable with traditional physiological measurements. Experimental methods and lung function modeling to study regional lung function are crucial for better understanding of disease mechanisms and for targeting treatment. Synchrotron radiation offers useful properties to this end coherence, utilized in phase-contrast imaging, and high flux and a wide energy spectrum which allow the selection of very narrow energy bands of radiation, thus allowing imaging at very specific energies. K-edge subtraction imaging (KES) has thus been developed at synchrotrons for both human and small animal imaging. The unique properties of synchrotron radiation extend X-ray computed tomography (CT) capabilities to quantitatively assess lung morphology, and also to map regional lung ventilation, perfusion, inflammation and biomechanical properties, with microscopic spatial resolution. Four-dimensional imaging, allows the investigation of the dynamics of regional lung functional parameters simultaneously with structural deformation of the lung as a function of time. This review summarizes synchrotron radiation imaging methods and overviews examples of its application in the study of disease mechanisms in preclinical animal models, as well as the potential for clinical translation both through the knowledge gained using these techniques and transfer of imaging technology to laboratory X-ray sources.

Caregivers face severe difficulties in communicating openly with their terminally ill relatives about illness and death. Some studies suggest that females are more likely than males to hold such conversations. We compared level of open communication between male and female spouse-caregivers, and the contribution of personal and situational characteristics to the explanation of open communication level within each gender group.

The study design was correlational. We interviewed 77 spousal-primary caregivers of terminal cancer patients. Participants were recruited over a 10-month period from the home hospice unit of the central region of Israel's largest Health Maintenance Organization. The questionnaire included measures of open communication, along with caregiver's personal and situational characteristics.

Female spouses reported higher levels of open communication about illness and death with their loved ones, compared to male spouses. Among males, duration of care and self-efficacy emerged as significd female caregivers. These factors should be considered by nurses and other healthcare professionals when developing intervention programs to increase the level of open communication between family caregivers and their terminally ill relatives.

Altered diurnal cortisol rhythms are a potential mechanism through which symptoms of fatigue are maintained in post-treatment cancer survivors. Exposure to early morning bright light may target this underlying dysregulation, resulting in improved diurnal cortisol patterns, subsequently improving symptoms of fatigue. This research investigates the effects of a 4-week light therapy intervention on the diurnal cortisol slopes and output in fatigued cancer survivors.

Post-treatment adult cancer survivors who met diagnostic criteria for cancer-related fatigue were randomly assigned to receive either a bright white light (BWL) or dim red light (DRL) device, used daily for 30min over four consecutive weeks. Assessments of fatigue and salivary cortisol were collected at baseline and post-intervention. Cortisol was sampled four times per day (waking, noon, 5pm, bedtime) for three days at each timepoint. Diurnal cortisol slopes and total cortisol output were calculated at baseline and post-intervention. Linear mixeegistration # NCT01780623.

The outbreak of COVID 19 in December 2019 spread quickly and overwhelmed the local healthcare system of the epicenter. A total of 346 medical assistance teams with 42,600 reserve medics were mobilized from around the country for emergency assistance. This study aims to examine the incidence of mental health symptoms and predictors of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorders (PTSD) symptoms among the reserve medics working in Wuhan, the capital city of Hubei Province.

An anonymous survey was conducted from April 4-6, 2020 among the medics upon their returning home. A total of 225 surveys were returned with a response rate of 83%. The survey consisted of questionnaires about the medics' demographic information, social relations, mental health status (e.g. IES-R and DASS-21) and other work-related information. Mann-Whitney U Test, Kruskal-Wallis Test and hierarchical logistic regression models were used to examine the predictors of PTSD symptoms.

During the stay in Wuhan, the medics experienced high levels of depression (46.7%), anxiety (35.6%) and stress symptoms (16.0%). Upon returning home, the overall prevalence of clinically concerned PTSD symptoms was as high as 31.6%. see more Further analyses revealed that PTSD symptoms and its subscales were significantly associated with age, collegial relationship and mental health status during their service.

The reserve medics reported a high prevalence of depression, anxiety and stress as well as clinically concerned PTSD symptoms. Comprehensive screening and intervention programs should be in place to help reserve medics cope with mental health challenges and build resilience during the COVID 19 pandemic.
