Salmonella enterica subspecies arizonae is frequently associated with animal reservoirs, particularly reptiles, and can cause illness in some mammals, including humans. click here Using whole-genome sequencing data, core genome phylogenetic analyses were performed using 112 S. enterica subsp. arizonae isolates, representing 46 of 102 described serovars. Nearly one-third of these are polyphyletic, including two serovars that appear in four and five distinct evolutionary lineages. Subspecies arizonae has a monophasic H antigen. Among the 46 serovars investigated, only 8 phase 1 H antigens were identified, demonstrating high conservation for this antigen. Prophages and plasmids were found throughout this subspecies, including five novel prophages. Polyphyly was also reflected in prophage content, although some clade-specific enrichment for some phages was observed. IncFII(S) was the most frequent plasmid replicon identified and was found in a quarter of S. enterica subsp. arizonae genomes. Salmonella pathogenicity islands (SPIs) 1 and 2 are present across all Salmonella, including this subspecies, although effectors sipA, sptP and arvA in SPI-1 and sseG and ssaI in SPI-2 appear to be lost in this lineage. SPI-20, encoding a type VI secretion system, is exclusive to this subspecies and is well maintained in all genomes sampled. A number of fimbral operons were identified, including the sas operon that appears to be a synapomorphy for this subspecies, while others exhibited more clade-specific patterns. This work reveals evolutionary patterns in S. enterica subsp. arizonae that make this subspecies a unique lineage within this very diverse species.The migration of small molecular mass organic compounds from polypropylene (PP) copolymer films into food simulants during and after high pressure processing (HPP) was studied. An overlapping temperature profile was developed to isolate the pressure effect of HPP (700 MPa, 71°C, 5 min) from equivalent thermal processing (TP) at atmospheric pressure (0.1 MPa). Chloroform, toluene, methyl salicylate, and phenylcyclohexane were chosen as surrogate compounds, and were spiked into test polymer films at concentrations of 762-1152 mg kg-1 by a solvent soaking technique. Migration (w/w) of surrogate compounds from loaded PP films into Miglyol 812 (a medium-chain triglyceride mixture) and 10% ethanol was quantified by headspace GC/MS during HPP and TP, and subsequent storage at 25°C for up to 10 days. HPP significantly delayed migration of the surrogates from PP into both food simulants relative to TP. The average migrations into Miglyol after TP and HPP were 92.2-109% and 16-60.6%, respectively. Diffusion coefficients estimated by migration modelling showed a reduction of more than two orders of magnitude for all surrogate compounds under high pressure at 700 MPa ( A P ' = 8.0) relative to equivalent TP at 0.1 MPa ( A P ' = 13.1). The relative Tg increase of PP copolymer under compression at 700 MPa was estimated as Tg+94°C. For 10% ethanol, average migrations after TP and HPP were 9.3-50.9% and 8.6-22.8%, respectively. During extended storage, migration into both simulants from HPP-treated samples was initially slower than that from untreated or TP-treated films. However, after 8-24 hours of storage, the differences in percent migration of selected surrogates were not significant (p > .05) among the treated PP films. Therefore, the physical changes of PP films that occur during HPP appear to be reversible with a return to their original dimensions and diffusion properties after decompression.The objective of this study is twofold first, to analyze whether the daily level of energy in terms of vigor at work could explain the way in which workers psychologically detach from their work, relax, practice challenging activities, and have the feeling of having control over their leisure time when arriving home. Second, to check if the daily emotional job demands could hinder that relationship, reversing the positive effect of vigor in recovery. For this purpose, a multilevel study with a diary methodology was designed. In total, 94 nurses from various hospital and primary care centers in Madrid and Basque Country (Spain) participated in this study. They completed daily questionnaires twice a day (in the afternoon after work and at night before going to bed) for five consecutive workdays from Monday to Friday (N = 94*5 = 470). The results revealed that on days that vigor at work was high, nurses experienced more psychological detachment, relaxation, feelings of mastery, and time control at home. Moreover, on days that emotional job demands were high, vigor was more negatively related to psychological detachment and time control at home. Additionally, vigor was more positively related to all recovery experiences at home in days that emotional demands were low. Therefore, daily vigor can act as an energy resource that helps the worker to recover. However, this effect can occur in situations in which stressors are not present in high intensity. These results have clear practical implications for both health organizations and workers.Background Racial disparities in breastfeeding rates persist in the United States with Black women having the lowest rates of initiation and continuation. A literature review attributes this to many factors-historical roles, cultural norms, lack of social support, and systemic racism in the health care and lactation support system. The Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) is an evidence-based program to increase breastfeeding through standardized protocols, and, in a Southeastern U.S. academic center, it was associated with increased breastfeeding, but the effect on racial disparities in breastfeeding was unknown. Methods Through an institutional Perinatal Information Systems database, breastfeeding rates were compared before and after BFHI implementation. Breastfeeding initiation, sustained breastfeeding 24-hours before discharge, and patient demographics were assessed. Results After BFHI implementation, mothers were overall 1.17 (95% confidence interval 1.13-1.19) times more likely to initiate breastfeeding.
