International and observational epidemiological studies provide evidence that vitamin D deficiency may confer increased risk of influenza and respiratory tract infection. This study was undertaken in an effort to evaluate the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency in pneumonia in children and assess its relationship with the severity.

Study group included children aged between 2 months to 5 years of age admitted as inpatients who presented with clinical features of pneumonia as per WHO classification. Detailed clinical assessment and physical examination was done at the time of admission and patients were enrolled and relevant findings were noted in prestructured proforma. Vitamin D levels <30 nmol/L (< 12ng/ml) were defined as deficient, 30-50nmol/L (12-20ng/ml) as insufficient, and > 125nmol/L (>50ng/ml) as sufficient. Outcomes of the patients admitted were recorded in terms of duration of hospitalization, ICU stay, oxygen requirement, antibiotic need and duration, need for upgradation of antibient group.

To analyze the repeatability of vessel density (VD) measurements and manual foveal avascular zone (FAZ) measurements using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) in patients with retinal vein occlusion (RVO) without macular edema.

The study population consisted of patients with RVO and central macular thickness <300 μm. For each subject, measurements were performed twice with a 5-minute interval. The intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and coefficient of variation (CV) were calculated to analyze the repeatability of results obtained with the OCTA device. To identify factors related to repeatability, we performed Pearson correlation analyses based on the CV of potential factors.

A total of 48 eyes were included in the study. The ICCs of the VDs in superficial capillary plexus (SCP) and the deep capillary plexus (DCP) were 0.748 and 0.665, respectively, and the CVs of the VDs in SCP and DCP were 9.1% and 12.6%, respectively. The ICCs associated with the FAZ of the superficial layer (Sof SCP layer measurements in patients with RVO without macular edema after treatment with bevacizumab. Manual measurement of the FAZ area in both SCP and DCP layers resulted in good repeatability. In addition, the repeatability of VD measurements in SCP and DCP layers was correlated with OCTA image quality.

To evaluate the performance of two intraocular lenses (IOLs). The new monofocal IOL using a higher-order aspheric optic (Tecnis Eyhance ICB00) was compared to a standard monofocal IOL (Tecnis monofocal ZCB00) of the identical platform and material.

The medical records of the patients who had undergone cataract surgery with implantation of either the ZCB00 or the ICB00 in the dominant eye from March 2020 to August 2020 and with available data from the 3-month visit were reviewed. Subjects with ocular comorbidities or corneal astigmatism greater than 1.00 diopters were excluded. The uncorrected near, intermediate, distance visual acuity and corrected distance visual acuity were the main outcome measures. Optical quality parameters measured using an optical quality analysis system, clinical records including age, sex, laterality, ocular dominance, and information related to refractory errors was also collected. Parameters related to the refractory errors were all uniformly based on the Barrett Universal II formula.

Of the 197 recruited patients, 111 and 86 were implanted with the ICB00 and ZCB00, respectively. No statistically significant differences in baseline parameters were observed between the two groups. While no statistically significant differences in distance visual acuity or optical quality were found between the two groups, compared to the ZCB00 group, the ICB00 group showed significantly higher intermediate visual acuity (p < 0.001) and near visual acuity (p < 0.05) 3 months postoperatively.

ICB00 provided superior intermediate vision and comparable distance performance and photic phenomena compared to a standard monofocal IOL.

To assess the prevalence and progression of a stage 0 macular hole in the fellow eye of patients with an idiopathic full-thickness macular hole.

The fellow eyes of 189 patients who underwent idiopathic full-thickness macular hole surgery were examined by biomicroscopy and spectral domain-optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT). A subset of 21 fellow eyes with a stage 0 macular hole was observed. Changes in the macular hole were evaluated by biomicroscopy and SD-OCT for an average of 29 months.

Among the 21 eyes, 15 showed no change in perifoveal vitreous detachment (71.4%). Bavdegalutamide Two eyes (9.5%) developed complete vitreofoveal separation, and one of the two developed a separation after progression to stage 1A. Among 21 eyes, 5 (23.8%) developed above stage 1A, and one of the five progressed to stage 1B after five years, which was successfully treated with vitrectomy and gas tamponade.

Perifoveal vitreous detachment in the fellow eye on SD-OCT, defined as a stage 0 macular hole, occurred at an earlier phase than stage 1A macular holes and may progress to an advanced stage. Therefore, patients who undergo macular hole surgery and have a stage 0 macular hole or perifoveal vitreous detachment in the fellow eye should be followed closely.

Loss of mismatch repair (MMR) occurs frequently in endometrial carcinoma (EC) and is an important prognostic marker. However, the frequency of MMR deficiency (D-MMR) in EC remains inconclusive. This systematic review and meta-analysis addressed this inconsistency and evaluated related clinicopathology.

Electronic databases were searched for articles PubMed, Science Direct, Web of Science, EMBASE, and the Wiley Online Library. Data were extracted from 25 EC studies of D-MMR to generate a clinical dataset of 7,459 patients. A random-effects model produced pooled estimates of D-MMR EC frequency with 95% confidence interval (CI) for meta-analysis.

The overall pooled proportion of D-MMR was 24.477% (95% CI, 21.022 to 28.106) in EC. The Lynch syndrome subgroup had 22.907% pooled D-MMR (95% CI, 14.852 to 32.116). D-MMR was highest in type I EC (25.810) (95% CI, 22.503 to 29.261) compared to type II (13.736) (95% CI, 8.392 to 20.144). Pooled D-MMR was highest at EC stage and grades I-II (79.430% and 65.718%, respectively) and lowest in stages III-IV and grade III (20.
