In apolar solvents, relaxation and diffusion data confirmed the oligomerization of the Eu(fod)3 -d27 chelate complexes already at relatively low (≥3.0 mg/0.4 ml) concentration.Dynamic chemical modifications of RNA represent novel and fundamental mechanisms that regulate stemness and tissue homeostasis. Rejuvenation and wound repair of mammalian skin are sustained by epidermal progenitor cells, which are localized within the basal layer of the skin epidermis. N6 -methyladenosine (m6 A) is one of the most abundant modifications found in eukaryotic mRNA and lncRNA (long noncoding RNA). In this report, we survey changes of m6 A RNA methylomes upon epidermal differentiation and identify Pvt1, a lncRNA whose m6 A modification is critically involved in sustaining stemness of epidermal progenitor cells. With genome-editing and a mouse genetics approach, we show that ablation of m6 A methyltransferase or Pvt1 impairs the self-renewal and wound healing capability of skin. Mechanistically, methylation of Pvt1 transcripts enhances its interaction with MYC and stabilizes the MYC protein in epidermal progenitor cells. Our study presents a global view of epitranscriptomic dynamics that occur during epidermal differentiation and identifies the m6 A modification of Pvt1 as a key signaling event involved in skin tissue homeostasis and wound repair. The riparian zone is a river-land ecotone, and its environmental conditions have a significant effect on the river ecosystem and population health. In this study, As, Cu, Cr, Cd, Mn, Fe, Ni, Pb, and Zn in the topsoils of urban riparian zones in a subtropical city in southeast China were quantitatively estimated by inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry. The geoaccumulation index and health risk evaluation model were adopted to assess the accumulation characteristic and health risk of residents' exposure to metals. Principle component analysis was used to determine the source of metals. The results showed that the mean contents of metals (except Fe) were higher than the soil background value, but none of the metal contents exceeded the mass limit of environmental quality standards. BMS303141 price The order of the geoaccumulation index was Cd > Mn > Cu > Cr > Pb > Zn > As > Ni > Fe. The contamination level of Cd was classified as slight, whereas the other metals did not contribute to pollution. Recent studies have shown a link between periodontal disease and cardiovascular disease. We have previously reported that oral administration of Porphyromonas gingivalis (Pg) accelerates atherosclerosis in apolipoprotein E-deficient spontaneously hyperlipidemic (Apoe
) mice. This study evaluated the potential of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) to change the intestinal flora changes induced by periodontopathic bacteria and to prevent/slow down the development of atherosclerosis.
Lactobacillus gasseri O3-2 (Lg) was orally intubated in Apoe
mice for 5weeks. Three weeks after oral intubation, the mice were orally infected with Pg for 2weeks.
Thirty days after the last infection with Pg, Lg+Pg-treated mice showed a significant reduction in alveolar bone loss compared to the Pg-treated group. The Lg treatment restored the Pg-induced intestinal flora disturbance to normal. Furthermore, a significant decrease in atherosclerotic plaque lesion size and suppressed inflammatory cytokine production in the aorta were detected in the Lg+Pg-treated group. In contrast, blood concentrations of TMAO, histidine, and carnitine were enhanced by the Lg treatment but decreased by Lg+Pg treatment.
These results suggest that oral Lg treatment is effective in preventing periodontitis and atherosclerosis.
These results suggest that oral Lg treatment is effective in preventing periodontitis and atherosclerosis.Neointima formation and atherosclerosis are the main complications after the endovascular intervention and vascular surgery, and there are no effective drugs. Propolis is a kind of resin substance produced by honeybees and has numerous health-beneficial effects. In this study, we evaluated the effects of propolis (125 and 250 mg·kg-1 ·day-1 , 6 weeks) on carotid restenosis in hypercholesterolemia rabbits. Propolis significantly ameliorated the degree of carotid restenosis, inhibited neointima hyperplasia, reduced serum lipids profile, and enhanced the anti-oxidative activities in hypercholesterolemia rabbits. Furthermore, propolis reduced the plasma levels of C-reactive protein, interleukin-6, and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), and inhibited the expression of CD68, TLR4, NF-κB p65, MMP-9, and TNF-α in the carotid arteries. The results indicate that propolis has a protective effect on carotid restenosis in rabbits, which is associated with regulating blood lipids, inhibiting oxidative stress and inflammation, and its anti-inflammatory activity may be related to inhibit TLR4-mediated NF-κB signaling pathway. PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS Restenosis is a primary challenge in angioplasty and atherosclerotic treatment. Hyperlipidemia can induce inflammation and accelerate the formation of restenosis. Recently, natural products have been widely used to prevent intimal hyperplasia of common cardiovascular diseases. Propolis is currently a popular functional food, but the role of propolis on carotid restenosis after angioplasty and its underlying mechanism remains unclear. This study showed that propolis inhibits the effect of carotid restenosis in hypercholesterolemia rabbits. The results of this study may provide a basis for propolis to prevent and treat vascular restenosis.International research collaborators conducted research investigating sociocultural responses to the Covid-19 pandemic. Our mixed methods research design includes surveys and interviews conducted between March and September of 2020 including 249 of 506 survey responses and 18 of 50 in-depth, exploratory, semi-structured interviews with self-defined politically left-leaning women in the United States. We employ a sequential design to analyze statistical and qualitative data. Despite international data suggesting that trust in federal governments reduces anxiety, women who did not trust and actively opposed the Trump administration reported lower levels of anxiety than expected. Results indicate reliance on and development of new forms of connection that seem to mitigate symptomatic anxieties when living in opposition. Women living in opposition to the leadership of the federal government use and develop resources to help them cope. Research on coping strategies and mental health and anxiety during crisis can inform recommendations for ways to support and strengthen sense of coherence during tumultuous times.
