For years there has been much speculation surrounding the abandonment of the Middle Bronze Age IIB palace of Tel Kabri, ca. 1700 BCE. There are no weapons, hoards of money and jewelry, or visible evidence for fire, which rules out hostile attack or conquest. There are also no indications of drought or environmental degradation that might have forced the inhabitants to vacate the site, nor mass graveyards to indicate a pandemic. The current study uses micro-geoarchaeological methods to show that the demise of the palace was rapid, with walls and ceilings collapsing at once prior to abandonment. Macroscopic data (stratigraphic and structural) from five excavation seasons were reexamined, showing that at least nine Potential Earthquake Archaeological Effects (PEAEs) are found and associated with the last occupation phase of the site's palace. click here All lines of evidence point to the possibility that an earthquake damaged the palace, possibly to a point where it was no longer economically viable to repair. This conclusion is compounded by the discovery of a 1-3 m wide trench that cuts through the palace for 30 m, which may be the result of ground shaking or liquefaction caused by an earthquake. This study shows the importance of combining macro- and micro-archaeological methods for the identification of ancient earthquakes, together with the need to evaluate alternative scenarios of climatic, environmental, and economic collapse, as well as human-induced destruction before a seismic event scenario can be proposed.New technological solutions play an important role in preventing the spread of Covid-19. Many countries have implemented tracking applications or other surveillance systems, which may raise concerns about privacy and civil rights violations but may be also perceived by citizens as a way to reduce threat and uncertainty. Our research examined whether feelings evoked by the pandemic (perceived threat and lack of control) as well as more stable ideological views predict the acceptance of such technologies. In two studies conducted in Poland, we found that perceived personal threat and lack of personal control were significantly positively related to the acceptance of surveillance technologies, but their predictive value was smaller than that of individual differences in authoritarianism and endorsement of liberty. Moreover, we found that the relationship between the acceptance of surveillance technologies and both perceived threat and lack of control was particularly strong among people high in authoritarianism. Our research shows that the negative feelings evoked by the unprecedented global crisis may inspire positive attitudes towards helpful but controversial surveillance technologies but that they do so to a lesser extent than ideological beliefs.

Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia (PJP) was reported among immunosuppressed patients with deficits in cell-mediated immunity and in patients treated with immunomodulatory drugs. The aim of this study was to identify risk-factors for PJP in noninfected HIV patients.

This retrospective, test negative, case-control study was conducted in six hospitals in Israel, 2006-2016. Cases were hospitalized HIV-negative patients with pneumonia diagnosed as PJP by bronchoalveolar lavage. Controls were similar patients negative for PJP.

Seventy-six cases and 159 controls were identified. Median age was 63.7 years, 65% males, 34% had hematological malignancies, 11% inflammatory diseases, 47% used steroids and 9% received antilymphocyte monoclonal antibodies. PJP was independently associated with antilymphocyte monoclonal antibodies (OR 11.47, CI 1.50-87.74), high-dose steroid treatment (OR 4.39, CI 1.52-12.63), lymphopenia (OR 8.13, CI 2.48-26.60), low albumin (OR 0.15, CI 0.40-0.54) and low BMI (OR 0.80, CI 0.68-0.93).

In conclusion, rituximab, which is prescribed for a wide variety of malignant and inflammatory disorders, was found to be significant risk-factor for PJP. Increased awareness of possible PJP infection in this patient population is warranted.

Trust in healthcare providers has been shown to improve several clinical and patient-reported outcomes. However, its relationship with depression and anxiety has not been investigated among patients with chronic health conditions, such as diabetes. Therefore, the aim of this study was to examine whether trust in primary care physicians among patients with diabetes is associated with their levels of depression and/or anxiety.

Adult patients (≥18 years) with a diagnosis of diabetes, confirmed through their electronic health records, were recruited and interviewed from the primary care clinics of three public hospitals. Patient trust in primary care physicians was assessed using the Health Care Relationship (HCR) Trust scale. Depression and anxiety were assessed using the Patient Health Questionnaire 9-item (PHQ-9) and Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7-item (GAD-7), respectively. Two multiple linear regression analyses were conducted to examine the association of HCR-Trust scores with PHQ-9 and GAD-7 scores conevels of depression and anxiety. Therefore, healthcare providers should adopt a patient-centered care approach that fosters trust in the relationship between their patients and themselves. Further research should explore whether interventions that foster shared decision-making and trust in healthcare providers might also improve the health outcomes of patients with diabetes.Recent years have seen a growing amount of research effort directed toward what positive media psychologists refer to as self-transcendent emotions, such as awe, admiration, elevation, gratitude, inspiration, and hope. While these emotions are invaluable to promote greater human connectedness, prosociality, and human flourishing, researchers are constrained in terms of analyzing self-transcendent emotions as expressed in spoken and written languages. Drawing upon the word-counting approach of the text analysis paradigm, this project aimed at constructing a dictionary tool-Self-Transcendent Emotion Dictionary (STED)-which can be uploaded into mainstream, text analytic software (e.g., LIWC) to identify and analyze self-transcendent emotions in large corpora. This dictionary tool was then refined and validated via three studies, where individual words were first rated with regard to their fitness into the proposed construct (Step 1), and then used to analyze essays written to reflect the corresponding construct (Step 2).
