Moreover, the plausible degradation pathways of SMX in the α-Fe2O3/PMS system were proposed. This work not only provides a valuable insight into the mechanism of PMS activation by α-Fe2O3 but also establishes a new strategy for the design of more efficient and practical iron-based catalyst for PMS activation.Spent ion exchange resins produced by nuclear power plants are radioactive organic waste. Until now, there is no satisfactory industrial treatment. Supercritical water gasification (SCWG) of cationic ion exchange resin (CIER) used in nuclear power plants was carried out in a batch reactor in this study. this website Results showed that the gasification efficiency increased with the growth of temperature (550-750 °C), addition of alkali homogeneous catalyst (K2CO3), proper ratio loading of catalyst to CIER (11), decrease of feed concentration (2-10 wt%) and extension of residence time (10-60 min). Carbon gasification efficiency was up to 97.98% with K2CO3 added and 30 min at 750 °C in the batch reactor. The gaseous products mainly consist of H2, CO, CO2 and CH4. The GC-MS analysis showed that the organic component in liquid products was mainly composed of benzene, monocycle arenes, phenol group and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. Based on the experimental results, the formation and gasification pathways of CIER in SCW were proposed.
Epilepsy is a chronic neurological disorder that may occur alongside cognitive changes, with effects on multiple cognitive domains.
To compare the cognitive performance of patients with epilepsy and healthy controls through Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) during outpatient consultation at a reference diagnostic center in Colombia and analyze and the influencing factors.
One-hundred and four patients during neurology outpatient consultation in the city of Cartagena, Colombia, were assessed with the (MoCA) test, i.e., 54 people who consulted for headache and have not been diagnosed with epilepsy (NEP) and 50 with a diagnosis of epilepsy (EPs) according to the diagnostic criteria of the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE).
Significant differences were found in the total mean scores of the (MoCA) between (EPs) and (NPE) groups (t = 4.72; p < 0.01), particularly in attention (t = 3.22; p < 0.02) and memory (t = 5.04; p < 0.01) dimensions. Additionally, a significant association was observed between years of schooling and (MoCA) scores (p = 0,019) but not between socioeconomic level (p = 0,510), age (p = 0,452) and the frequency of seizures (p = 0,471).
Patients with epilepsy show lower scores in several cognitive domains in respect of the control group. The (MoCA) has proven its appropriateness for cognitive screening in the contexts of clinical neurology outpatient consultation.

The epileptic neuronal activity can be determined by abnormal synchronization, excessive glutamate excitation and\or inadequate GABA inhibition. Increasing evidence suggests that the astrocytes might be involved in this process even if neurons play a relevant role. In particular astrocytes promote the clearance of glutamate, a potent excitatory neurotransmitter of the central nervous system. Indeed, elevated concentrations of extracellular glutamate may determine iper-excitability and seizures as well as other neurological disorders. So, astrocytes, converting glutamate into glutamine via the enzyme glutamine synthetase (GS), could play a protective anti-seizures role. In the present study, we analyzed the immunohistochemical expression of GS in 20 DNTs specimens documenting a constant immunoistochemical expression of GS in astrocytes of the lesional tissue and of the cerebral cortex. In this study, An AHK4 CHASE domain was used to construct an electrochemical cytokinin biosensor using ferrocene as the electrochemical mediator. Upon addition of cytokinin, the binding of cytokinin and AHK4 led to dimerization, which blocked electron transfer between ferrocene and the electrode, and the redox peak current of ferrocene was gradually reduced. Cytokinin was detected by recording the change of the ferrocene redox peak current. The biosensor shows a linear range of 50-400 nM with a linear regression equation of ip = 0.0086c + 0.732 (R2 = 0.993) with ip in μA and c in nM and a detection limit (LOD) of 1.5 nM (S/N = 3). The biosensor exhibits excellent performance that avoids interference of other types of plant hormones and was successfully applied to the detection of cytokinins in bean sprouts.Obesity is known as metabolic syndrome and it affects many tissues including adipose tissue, liver, and central nervous system (CVS). Gambi-jung (GBJ) is a modified prescription of Taeumjowi-tang (TJT), which has been used to treat obesity in Korea. GBJ is composed of 90% Ephedra sinica Stapf (ES). Therefore, the present study was designed to assess the antiobesity effects of GBJ and to compare the effects of GBJ and ES on obesity. GBJ administration remarkably reduced the body weight, Body mass index (BMI), and body fat percentage compared to the ES administration in human subjects. GBJ-treated mice had lower white adipose tissue (WAT) amounts than ES-treated mice. GBJ and ES administration enhanced adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK) expression in 3T3-L1 adipocytes, epididymal WAT and liver of HFD-induced obese mice. Moreover, GBJ and ES reduced food intake by suppressing the mRNA levels of orexigenic peptides, agouti-related protein (AgRP) and neuropeptide-Y (NPY), as well as AMPK in the brain of HFD-induced obese mice. Furthermore, GBJ-treated mice had dramatically lower expression of macrophage marker F4/80 in epididymal WAT than those of ES-treated mice. Based on these results, we suggest the use of GBJ as a natural drug to control weight gain.
