Median progression-free survival was 5.1 months (95% CI 3.7-6.6), with a 6 month progression-free survival of 41% (95% CI 25-56). Median overall survival was 13.2 months (95% CI 8.0-18.4), with a 1-year overall survival of 51% (95% CI 36-67). 21 (42%, 95% CI 28-56) of 50 patients had an objective response and 35 (70.00%, 95% CI 57-83) had a disease control. Treatment-related adverse events of grade 3 or worse were reported in 13 (24.5%) patients. The most common grade 3 or 4 treatment-related adverse events were neutropenia (9 patients [17%]) and anaemia (2 [3.8%]). No treatment-related death occurred. Conclusions Rh-endostatin plus paclitaxel/nedaplatin has anti-tumour activity with acceptable tolerability in patients with recurrent or metastatic advanced ESCC. Randomized controlled trial is needed to confirm the efficacy of this regimen.

Peripheral T cell lymphomas (PTCLs) have an overall poor prognosis. Indeed, registry data in elderly patients show that the median progression-free survival (mPFS) following first- and second-line therapies are only 6.7 and 3.1months, respectively. The aim of the study is to show the activity of metronomic chemotherapy, a regular administration of low chemotherapeutic drug doses allowing a favourable toxicity profile, on elderly PTCL patients.

We report a series of 17 PTCL patients, treated with the all-oral metronomic schedule DEVEC (prednisolone-etoposide-vinorelbine-cyclophosphamide) in four Italian centres. Patients 5/17 (29.4%) were treatment-naïve (naïve) and 12/17 (70.6%) were relapsed-refractory (RR), respectively. The median age was 83years (range 71-87) and 71.5years (range 56-85) for naïve and RR, respectively. In vitro activity of metronomic vinorelbine (VNR), etoposide (ETO) and their concomitant combination on HH, a PTCL cell line, was also assessed.

Histology PTCL-not-otherwise-specified = 12; angioimmunoblastic = 2; NK/T nasal type = 1; adult-type leukaemia lymphoma = 1, transformed Mycosis Fungoides = 1. The overall response rate was 80 and 58% in naïve and RR, respectively; whereas the PFS was 20 in naïve (95% CI 0-43) and 11months (95% CI 4.2-17.8) in RR. The occurrence of relevant adverse events was 23.5%, which was managed with ETO dose reduction. In vitro experiments showed that both metronomic VNR and ETO caused a significant inhibitory activity on HH cells and a strong synergism when administered concomitantly.

All-oral DEVEC showed an encouraging activity and acceptable toxicity. This schedule deserves further studies in elderly PTCL also for assessing combinations with targeted drugs.

In this systematic review, we try to determine how the inertial sensors embedded in mobile devices are exploited for the measurement of the different parameters involved in the Timed-Up and Go test. The results show the mobile devices equipped with onboard motion sensors can be exploited for these types of studies the most commonly used sensors are the magnetometer, accelerometer and gyroscope available in consumer off-the-shelf smartphones. Hypertension is associated with impaired haemodynamic control mechanisms and autonomic dysfunction. Isometric exercise (IE) interventions have been shown to improve autonomic modulation and reduce blood pressure (BP) predominantly in male participants. The physiological responses to IE are unexplored in female populations; therefore, this study investigated the continous cardiac autonomic and haemodynamic response to a single bout of IE in a large female population.

Forty physically inactive females performed a single, individually prescribed isometric wall squat training session. Total power spectral density of heart rate variability (HRV) and associated low-frequency (LF) and high-frequency (HF) power spectral components were recorded in absolute (ms

) and normalised units (nu) pre, during and post an IE session. Heart rate (HR) was recorded via electrocardiography and baroreceptor reflex sensitivity (BRS) via the sequence method. Continuous blood pressure was recorded via the vascular unloading techniales. Future mechanistic research is required to investigate the acute and chronic effects of IE in female populations with different resting BP profiles.

Future mechanistic research is required to investigate the acute and chronic effects of IE in female populations with different resting BP profiles.This study examined the effects of a family-based intervention Coping and Promoting Strength (CAPS) relative to a control condition, information-monitoring (IM), to prevent the onset of anxiety disorders in offspring of anxious parents six years after their initial assessment. One hundred thirty six families participated in the original randomized trial; 113 (83%) completed the one time follow-up assessment. Presence of anxiety disorders and severity of symptoms in offspring were assessed by masked evaluators using the Anxiety Disorders Interview Schedule; parents and offspring also completed questionnaires assessing offspring anxiety. Using the intention to treat sample from the original trial, Cox regression models showed significant intervention main effects in the rate of onset of anxiety disorders from baseline to follow-up (anxiety disorder hazard ratio (HR) = 2.55, 95% CI 1.54, 4.21) but growth curves suggest effects occurred within the first year after program completion. No group differences were found in the cumulative incidence of anxiety disorders at the six-year follow-up. Additional intervention appears needed to maintain the initial positive effects long-term to reduce the risk for downstream disability.Clinical Trials Registration NCT00847561.Manganese (Mn) is an essential element for plant growth but it becomes phytotoxic at higher concentrations. The effect of Mn-excess in hydroponics medium was examined on growth, oxidative stress, and ultrastructural changes in chloroplasts and mitochondria as well proteomic alterations in rice (Oryza sativa L.) seedlings. Seedlings grown with 1 mM and 2 mM Mn in nutrient medium for 8 days showed decline in length and fresh biomass, and decline in net photosynthetic rate, transpiration rate, and stomatal conductance. Shoots of the seedlings had higher Mn content than roots. Mn-treated seedlings showed increased production of O2·-, H2O2, and .OH, increased lipid peroxidation, increased carbonylation of proteins, and increased proteolytic activity compared to untreated seedlings. Mn-treated seedlings showed disorganization and swelling of chloroplasts with appearance of plastoglobuli in TEM images and deformity in shape of mitochondria. Using confocal microscopy depolarization of mitochondrial membrane was observed marked by green fluorescence of JC-1 dye monomers in Mn-treated roots. The ovule is medionucellate the two-cell postament and two rows of nucellar cells persist until the death of the inner integument. A monosporic eight-nucleated embryo sac is developed. After the fertilization, the most common central cell nucleus consisted of two joined but not fused polar nuclei. The embryogenesis of D. nobile is similar to the Caryophyllad-type, and it is characterized by the formation of all embryo cells from the apical cell (ca) of a two-celled proembryo. The only exception is that there is no formation of the radicle and/or cotyledons. The basal cell (cb) does not divide during the embryogenesis, gradually transforming into the uninuclear suspensor. Then the suspensor goes through three main stages it starts with an unbranched cell within the embryo sac, followed by a branched stage growing into the integuments, and it ends with the cell death. The stage-specific development of the female gametophyte and embryo of D. nobile is discussed.
