However, because of its different composition, its use requires the development of new, or the modification of existing, extraction procedures. Therefore, the aim of the study was to develop a method of saliva purification that would enable the determination of carbamazepine and its metabolite, carbamazepine-10,11 epoxide. When comparing two methods of sample purification (Solid Phase Extration (SPE) and deproteinization), it was found that the second method yielded more favorable results. A 1% formic acid solution in acetonitrile was used for extraction. The samples were shaken and centrifuged, and the supernatant obtained was evaporated and dissolved in a mobile phase, then chromatographically analyzed. The developed method was validated by determining its linearity in the range of 10-5000 ng/mL for both analytes. Intra- and inter-day precision did not exceed 14%. In order to check the usefulness of the method, both analytes were determined in the saliva samples from 20 patients treated with carbamazepine. The content of both analytes was detected and determined in all of the tested samples of saliva. It was found that the method developed is rapid, sensitive, reliable, and can be used to monitor the concentration of carbamazepine and metabolite in patients' saliva.This study investigated the effects of a thin aluminum oxynitride (AlOxNy) gate insulator on the electrical characteristics of AlGaN/GaN-on-SiC metal-insulator-semiconductor high electron mobility transistors (MIS-HEMTs). The fabricated AlGaN/GaN-on-SiC MIS-HEMTs exhibited a significant reduction in gate leakage and off-state drain currents in comparison with the conventional Schottky-gate HEMTs, thus enhancing the breakdown voltage. The effects of gate recess were also investigated while using recessed MIS-HEMT configuration. In this work, synthesized SBA-15 loaded with the natural antimicrobial compound thymol (THY) was incorporated into polycaprolactone (PCL) electrospun nanofibers to obtain an advanced wound dressing. Rod-shaped particles with internal parallel channels oriented along the longitudinal axis (diameter 138 ± 30 nm, length 563 ± 100 nm) were loaded with 70.8 wt.% of THY. Fiber mats were prepared using these particles as nanofillers within polycaprolactone (PCL) electrospun fibers. The resulting mats contained 5.6 wt.% of THY and more than half of this loading was released in the first 7 h. Although used extensively in pet food formulations and as palatants, little is known about the palatability of individual meat components. The objectives of this study were to investigate the palatability of raw meat components commonly used in the production of pet food, using acceptance and preference testing. Two-bowl acceptance tests were used to develop an overall ranking of components within each species. Two-bowl preference tests between equivalent beef and lamb components were then used to determine whether a preference was exhibited for one species over the other. For the acceptance of components from lamb and beef, liver was the most palatable within both species, with kidney equivalent to liver when testing lamb components. The MDM was identified as the least palatable component from both species. When examining the preference between equivalent components between species, cats showed preferences for lamb over equivalent beef components, except for heart and liver which showed no difference in intake between the two species. Overall, cats were able to clearly rank the palatability of different components from lamb and beef, as well as between equivalent components from the two species. With a focus on copper(II) ions and copper complex removal, in the present study, ultra-small primary CoFe2O4 magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) coated with octadecylamine (ODA) of adequate magnetization were solvothermally prepared. The surface modification of the initial MNPs was adapted via three different chemical approaches based on amine and/or carboxylate functional groups (i) the deposition of polyethylimide (PEI), (ii) covalent binding with diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (DTPA), and (iii) conjugation with both PEI and DTPA, respectively. FT-IR, TGA, and DLS measurements confirmed that PEI or/and DTPA were successfully functionalized. The percentage of the free amine (-NH2) groups was also estimated. Increased magnetization values were found in case of PEI and DTPA-modified MNPs that stemmed from the adsorbed amine or oxygen ligands. Comparative UV-Vis studies for copper(II) ion removal from aqueous solutions were conducted, and the effect of time on the adsorption capacity was analyzed.
