BACKGROUND The development of lung cancer is a multifactorial process that involves the environmental and genetic factors. The mortality rate of this cancer is higher than breast, colorectal, and prostate cancers. In this study, we try to analyze the proteome of patients with Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) and compare it with the healthy samples. METHODS This study has compared 30 lung tissue samples from patients with NSCLC and 30 healthy samples using proteomics and RT-PCR. Hence, tissue samples were obtained from the surgical ward in sterile conditions, and then, protein extraction applied to them. At the next stage, two-dimensional electrophoresis and mass spectrometry LCMS/MS were performed for protein isolation and sequencing, respectively. RESULTS The proteome analysis identified more than 40 differences in proteomic pattern of normal lung tissues compared to lung tissues with NSCLC. Peroxiredoxin, Haptoglobin, and Alpha-1 antitrypsin proteins were identified. Molecularly, it has also been shown that the two main proteins of Peroxiredoxin-2 and Alpha-1 antitrypsin were upregulated, and the expression of Haptoglobin protein was downregulated in cancer tissue. CONCLUSION The results of this study showed that there are some differences in term of protein content between the normal and cancerous lung tissues. Further studies are needed to evaluate these proteins that investigate whether these proteins can candidate as biomarkers to use in the early diagnosis of patients with NSCLC. © 2020 The Authors. This study aimed to investigate thyroid-related ICM administration practices among diagnostic imaging departments in Norway. METHODS The cross-sectional survey included 24 hospitals and 75 respondents with a 69% response rate. The survey covered practices for assessment and management of at-risk patients and the participants' perceived rationale for the routines. RESULTS The use of written checklists as recommended by international guidelines was quite modest (15%) and the respondents preferred various methods to identify risk and contraindications. Only 20% reported checking for any scheduled thyroid-scintigraphy and/or radioactive-iodine therapy. 42% indicated that they did not have thyroid-related ICM routines, and the main perceived reason was lack of knowledge on the topic. Radiographers and radiologists expressed uncertainty about each other's roles and routines. CONCLUSION This study revealed the need of optimisation of routines regarding ICM administration to patients at risk for thyroid dysfunction. © 2020 The Authors. This study examines the relationship between family problem-solving behaviours and depression in CHR adolescents and the impact of family interventions targeting subthreshold symptoms of psychosis on reducing symptoms of depression over 2-years. METHODS Participants were a subset of the North American Prodrome Longitudinal Study who were randomized to 6-months of family focused therapy for individuals at CHR or family psychoeducational treatment. We evaluated the relationship between communication during family conflict discussion and adolescents' symptoms of depression before treatment. At follow-up assessments the family treatment groups were compared on depression. Finally, we compared those in family treatment with matched controls. RESULTS Adolescents' constructive communication was associated with less severe symptoms of depression before treatment. Symptoms of depression improved for adolescents in both family treatment groups. However, there were no significant group by treatment interactions. Selleckchem Salinomycin When adolescents who participated in either type of family intervention were compared to CHR adolescent controls, symptoms of depression improved for adolescents in treatment and control groups, but there were no significant time by treatment interactions. CONCLUSIONS The communication skills of CHR adolescents are related to both depression and their parents' communication skills pre-treatment. However, reductions in depression over the course of the treatment trial cannot be attributed to family treatment. It is imperative to incorporate interventions that directly target depression into future family treatment studies. © 2020 John Wiley & Sons Australia, Ltd.Our objective was to examine the trends and variation in opioid prescribing in Estonia from 2011 to 2017. This retrospective cross-sectional study is based on a nationwide prescription medicines database. We stratified the analysis by treatment indication (cancer vs noncancer pain). Between 2011 and 2017, annual opioid prescribing rates increased by 67% (from 82.9 to 138.6 prescriptions per 1000 population). The annual number of prescriptions per patient did not change substantially (from 2.94 in 2011 to 2.87 in 2017), and was higher among cancer patients (5.07 vs 2.67 annual prescriptions per cancer and noncancer patients, respectively, in 2017). The use of the most potent opioids (morphine, fentanyl) was higher in noncancer than in cancer patients. The use of prescription opioids is low, and raises concern about the potential undertreatment of cancer pain, in parallel with misuse of opioids for either noncancer pain or diversion. © 2020 The Authors.
