However, non-gastric intestinal MALT lymphoma is rare, and no standard therapeutic strategies have been established. This study was designed to assess the long-term prognosis of non-gastric intestinal MALT lymphoma treated with radiotherapy and to compare the outcomes with that of post-radiotherapy gastric MALT lymphoma.

The study included 34 patients with stage I EA gastrointestinal MALT lymphoma according to the Ann Arbor classification who underwent definitive radiotherapy. The primary site was the rectum in 3, the duodenum in 1, and the stomach in 30 patients. The radiotherapy dose was 1.5?2.0 Gy (median, 1.5 Gy) and the total dose was 30?40 Gy (median, 30 Gy). The clinical target volume (CTV) was defined as the volume of the entire organ with the lymphoma. Adjacent lymph node areas were not routinely included in the CTV.

Aplastic anemia (AA), an unusual hematological disease, is characterized by hypoplasia of the bone marrow and failure to form blood cells of all three lineages resulting in pancytopenia. This study aimed to investigate TNF-a-308 and IFN-g-874 gene polymorphisms and their respective plasma protein levels in patients with AA and healthy controls.

Two hundred and forty individuals were included in this study; the case group comprised 120 AA patients, while 120 healthy individuals served as controls. Genotyping was performed using the PCR-restriction length fragment polymorphism method and TNF-a-308 and IFN-g-874 plasma levels were evaluated using an ELISA kit.

There was a significantly higher prevalence of the IFN-g-874 genotype in patients with AA than in healthy controls, while the TNF-a-308 genotype was associated with lower risk of developing AA. Furthermore, the levels of both TNF-a-308 and IFN-g-874 were higher in the plasma of AA patients.

Our findings suggest that the IFN-g-874 genotype may be a greater risk factor in the causation of AA, whereas the TNF-a-308 genotype has a protective role in the North Indian population.

Over the past decade, a growing body of evidence has suggested that the gut microbiome builds a unique ecosystem inside the gastrointestinal tract to maintain the homeostasis and that compositional changes in the gut microbiome are highly correlated with several mental disorders. There are ongoing efforts to treat or prevent mental disorders by regulating the gut microbiome using probiotics. These attempts are based on the seminal findings that probiotics can control the gut microbiome and affect mental conditions. However, some issues have yet to be conclusively addressed, especially the causality between the gut microbiome and mental disorders. In this review, we focus on the mechanisms by which the gut microbiome affects mental health and diseases. Based on the high expression levels of programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) in human multiple myeloma isolated from bone marrow and the murine myeloma cell lines, NS-1 and MOPC-315, we propose PD-L1 molecule as a target of anti-multiple myeloma therapy. We developed a novel anti-PD-L1 antibody containing a murine immunoglobulin G subclass 2a (IgG2a) fragment crystallizable (Fc) domain that can induce antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity. The newly developed anti-PD-L1 antibody showed significant antitumor effects against multiple myeloma in mice subcutaneously, intraperitoneally, or intravenously inoculated with NS-1 and MOPC-315 cells. The anti-PD-L1 effects on multiple myeloma may be related to a decrease in the immunosuppressive myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs), but there were no changes in the splenic MDSCs after combined treatment with lenalidomide and the anti-PD-L1 antibody.
