Inundation of patient care with limited manpower and resources forced us to align with a third-party vendor, around-the-clock alert, to make remote patient monitoring (RPM) possible. Each patient was prescribed a pulse oximeter and nurses were assigned to monitor vital signs, speak to patients, and escalate to physicians if required. Results We enrolled 50 patients, of whom 13 were escalated resulting in 3 emergency room visits and 1 readmission. We had a high compliance rate with high patient satisfaction in postsurveys. Discussion Our program was unique in that it utilized telemedicine for regular patient follow-up, along with RPM through a third-party vendor. Patients were able to be safely discharged home with close follow-up through regularly obtained vitals with access to a 24/7 hotline for any emergencies, possibly preventing readmissions. Limitations include a small sample size population. Conclusions Our experience shows that in a short period despite lack of resources, telehealth and RPM's concurrent use with a third-party vendor could be successfully utilized for safe discharges with high patient satisfaction.Several theories exist regarding the role of memory in the development of PTSD. The metacognitive model of PTSD contends beliefs about trauma memory are pivotal in the development and maintenance of PTSD. The Beliefs About Memory Questionnaire (BAMQ) was developed to measure metacognitive beliefs about trauma memory. This study aimed to test the psychometric properties of the BAMQ and its relationship to PTSD in a community sample of 674 adults exposed to the 2010-2011 Canterbury earthquakes and Queensland floods. Participants completed a series of online, self-report questionnaires between October and December 2012, exploring thinking and memory processes related to their experience of a natural disaster. Factor analysis validated the two-factor, positive and negative structure of the BAMQ. Convergent, concurrent, and discriminant validity was established through positive relationships with relevant metacognitive beliefs, thought control variables, and risk factors related to PTSD. Logistic regression revealed scores on the BAMQ predicted clinically significant symptoms of PTSD. The psychometric properties of the BAMQ suggest the instrument is a valuable addition to the assessment of metacognitive beliefs about trauma memory, and the utility of the BAMQ in the prediction of clinically significant symptoms of PTSD.

Speech perception tests are commonly used as indices reflecting hearing ability in daily life. In Japan, the CI-2004 test, first developed in 2004, is widely used as standard, but it was not validated against a large number of normal hearing controls and hearing loss patients.

The primary objective of the present study was to develop and validate iPad-based software for the Japanese monosyllable speech perception test, 'iCI2004'.

Seven universities and two medical centers participated in this study. The hearing threshold and Japanese monosyllable speech perception test results of 77 people with normal hearing and 459 people with hearing loss were collected.

All participants with normal hearing achieved almost perfect perception results both in quiet and in noise. For cochlear implant users, the average monosyllable speech perception score was 55.1 ± 19.6% in quiet and 40.3 ± 19.2% in noise (SNR + 10dB).
