Nurses experience high levels of burnout during the COVID-19 pandemic, while several sociodemographic, social and occupational factors affect this burnout.

We found that burnout among nurses is a crucial issue during the COVID-19 pandemic. There is an urgent need to prepare nurses to cope better with COVID-19 pandemic. Identification of risk factors for burnout could be a significant weapon giving nurses and health care systems the ability to response in a better way against the following COVID-19 waves in the near future.

Decidualized cells display an active role during embryo implantation sensing blastocyst quality, allowing the implantation of normal developed blastocysts and preventing the invasion of impaired developed ones. Here, we characterized the immune microenvironment generated by decidualized cells in response to soluble factors secreted by blastocysts that shape the receptive milieu.

We used an in vitro model of decidualization based on the Human Endometrial Stromal Cells line (HESC) differentiated with medroxiprogesterone and dibutyryl-cAMP, then treated with human blastocysts-conditioned media (BCM) classified according to their quality.

Decidualized cells treated with BCM from impaired developed blastocysts increased IL-1β production. Next, we evaluated the ability of decidualized cells to modulate other mediators associated with menstruation as chemokines. Decidualized cells responded to stimulation with BCM from impaired developed blastocysts increasing CXCL12 expression and CXCL8 secretion. The modulation of these markers was associated with the recruitment and activation of neutrophils, while regulatory T cells recruitment was restrained. These changes were not observed in the presence of BCM from normal developed blastocysts.

Soluble factors released by impaired developed blastocysts induce an exacerbated inflammatory response associated with neutrophils recruitment and activation, providing new clues to understand the molecular basis of the embryo-endometrial dialogue.

However, results should be interpreted with caution since studies were methodologically heterogeneous. Here, we assessed the feasibility of a pooling study to harmonize and re-analyze available original data. A systematic literature search was conducted. Published epidemiological studies were identified in PubMed and EMF-Portal from literature databases' inception dates until January 2019. The characteristics of all studies were described, including exposure metrics, exposure categories, and confounders. A survey among the principal investigators (PI) was carried out to assess their willingness to provide their original data. The statistical power of a pooling study was evaluated. We identified 15 articles published between 1997 and 2019. Studies differed in terms of outcome, study population, exposure assessment, and exposure metrics. Most studies assessed ELF-MF as average magnetic flux density per working day; however, exposure categories varied widely. The pattern of adjustment for confounders was heterogeneous between studies, with age, sex, and socioeconomic status being most frequent. Eight PI expressed their willingness to provide original data. A relative risk of ≥1.14 for ALS and occupational exposure to ELF-MF can be detected with a power of more than 80% in a pooled study. The pooling of original data is recommended and could contribute to a better understanding of ELF-MF in the etiology of ALS based on a large database and reduced heterogeneity due to a standardized analysis protocol with harmonized exposure metrics and exposure categories. The aim of this study was to determine the retention practices following orthodontic treatment in a tertiary health institution in Nigeria.

A retrospective study conducted in the Orthodontic Clinic of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital over a 3-year-period. Data on the type of retainers used and the retention practices in the upper and lower arches were obtained from case files of patients who had completed orthodontic treatment in the institution. Statistical analysis was performed using IBM SPSS software version 23.

The demographic variables comprised of 136 subjects; 93 females (68.4%) and 43 males (31.6%). Their ages ranged from 9-44 years with a mean age of 18.96 ± 6.75. Class I malocclusion was the most common malocclusion pattern (84.6%), followed by Class II (10.3%) and Class III (5.1%). Removable retainers were more commonly used and accounted for retention carried out in 85.3% of the study population. There was a preference for the use of removable retainers in the upper arch; the Hawley retainer being the most used (79.4%). selleck kinase inhibitor In the lower arch however, no form of retention was carried out for majority of the patients after orthodontic treatment (86.8%). However, when done, the fixed lingual retainer was the most frequently used (13.2%).

The Hawley retainer was the predominant retainer in this study. The fixed lingual retainer was the most frequently used in the lower arch. Longitudinal studies are required to determine efficacy of different types of retention following orthodontic treatment.
