Decitabine significantly elevated the expression of SERPINB5 in the placenta of rats with L-NAME-induced preeclampsia.

Decitabine reduced 24-h urinary protein and partly decreased blood pressure of pre-eclampsia in late pregnancy in rats with L-NAME-induced pre-eclampsia and increased the expression of SERPINB5, but the molecular mechanism of decitabine's effect remains unknown. This research provided a potential approach to studying the pathogenesis, treatment and prevention of pre-eclampsia.

Update of the 2009 U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) recommendation on counseling and interventions to prevent tobacco use and tobacco-related disease in adults, including pregnant women.

The USPSTF reviewed the evidence on interventions for tobacco smoking cessation that are relevant to primary care (behavioral interventions, pharmacotherapy, and complementary or alternative therapy) in adults, including pregnant women.

This recommendation applies to adults aged 18 years or older, including pregnant women.

The USPSTF recommends that clinicians ask all adults about tobacco use, advise them to stop using tobacco, and provide behavioral interventions and U.S. Food and Drug Administration-approved pharmacotherapy for cessation to adults who use tobacco. (A recommendation). The USPSTF recommends that clinicians ask all pregnant women about tobacco use, advise them to stop using tobacco, and provide behavioral interventions for cessation to pregnant women who use tobacco. (A recommendation). Themmendation). The USPSTF concludes that the current evidence is insufficient to assess the balance of benefits and harms of pharmacotherapy interventions for tobacco cessation in pregnant women. (I statement). The USPSTF concludes that the current evidence is insufficient to recommend electronic nicotine delivery systems for tobacco cessation in adults, including pregnant women. The USPSTF recommends that clinicians direct patients who smoke tobacco to other cessation interventions with established effectiveness and safety (previously stated). (I statement).

Colorectal cancer (CRC) develops through the deregulation of gene expression and the accumulation of epigenetic abnormalities, leading to tumor cell acquisition of malignant features. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play a critical role in cancer development, where they can act as oncogenes or oncosuppressors.

miR-148a expression was measured by qRT-PCR in patients with colorectal adenoma (n = 21) and CRC (stage I-IV, n = 159) using formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue samples. In situ hybridization (ISH) using an miR-148a-specific probe was also performed. To further confirm the direct effect of miR-148a on matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)7 expression in CRC, MTT and cell invasion assays using HT29 and WiDr cells were performed.

miR-148a expression was found to be clearly downregulated in high-grade adenoma compared to low-grade adenoma on both qRT-PCR and ISH analysis. Downregulation of miR-148a expression was significantly correlated with advanced clinicopathological features and was an independent prognostic classifier in patients with stage III CRC. In CRC cells and tissues, miR-148a expression was inversely correlated with the expression of MMP7.

We showed the collaborative participation of miR-148a and MMP7 in CRC cell invasion. These results also demonstrate that the downregulation of miR-148a expression promotes CRC progression, especially carcinogenesis and cancer cell invasion.

In the recently updated clinical guidelines from the European Society of Cardiology on the management of stable coronary artery disease (CAD), the updated Diamond Forrester score has been included as a pretest probability (PTP) score to select patients for further diagnostic testing. We investigated the validity of the new guidelines in a population of patients with acute-onset chest pain.

We examined 527 consecutive patients with either an exercise-ECG stress test or single-photon emission computed tomography, and subsequently coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA). We compared the diagnostic accuracy of PTP and stress testing assessed by the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) to identify significant CAD, defined as at least 1 coronary artery branch with >70% diameter stenosis identified by CCTA.

The diagnostic accuracy of PTP was significantly higher than the stress test (AUC 0.80 vs. 0.69; p = 0.009), but the diagnostic accuracy of the combination of PTP and a stress test did not significantly increase when compared to PTP alone (AUC 0.86 vs. 0.80; p = 0.06).

PTP using the updated Diamond and Forrester Score is a very useful tool in risk-stratifying patients with acute-onset chest pain at a low-to-intermediate risk of having CAD. Adding a stress test to PTP does not appear to offer significant diagnostic benefit.

Here, by using in situ high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, we probe the dynamics of Na transport in MoS2 nanostructures in real-time and compare the intercalation kinetics with previous lithium insertion. We find that Na intercalation follows the two-phase reaction mechanism, that is, trigonal prismatic 2H-MoS2 → octahedral 1T-NaMoS2, and the phase boundary is ∼2 nm thick. The velocity of the phase boundary at less then 10 nm/s is 1 order smaller than that of lithium diffusion, suggesting sluggish kinetics for sodium intercalation. The newly formed 1T-NaMoS2 contains a high density of defects and series superstructure domains with typical sizes of ∼3-5 nm. Our results provide valuable insights into finding suitable Na electrode materials and understanding the properties of transition metal dichalcogenide MoS2.A highly enantioselective dearomative cascade reaction between 2-isocyanoethylindoles and 3-alkenyl-oxindoles was realized using a chiral N,N'-dioxide-Mg(II) complex catalyst. This reaction provides a straightforward access to polycyclic 3-spirooxindoles bearing cyclopenta[b]indole units with four contiguous stereocenters in excellent yields and moderate to good stereoselectivities via a Michael/Friedel-Crafts/Mannich cascade.

(a) Examine longitudinal measurement invariance of scores from psychological need satisfaction (PNS) scales, and (b) examine if changes in PNS were associated with change in moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA).

Adolescents (N = 842, Mage = 10.8, SD = .6) enrolled in the Monitoring Activities of Teenagers to Comprehend their Habits (MATCH) study completed measures of PNS and MVPA every 4 months over a 3-year period (2011-14) for a total of 9 times.

PNS scores demonstrated strong longitudinal measurement invariance (i.e., invariant factor loadings and intercepts). Latent growth curve modeling indicated that a factor representing perceptions of all 3 PNS variables was positively associated with MVPA at Time 1 (β = .562, p < .05), and that increases in the common PNS factor were associated with increases in MVPA (β = .545, p < .05) with a large effect size (Rinitial MVPA2 = .316; Rchange in MVPA2 = .301). In an alternative model, MVPA at Time 1 was associated with perceived common PNS at Time 1 (β = .602, p < .001), and increases in MVPA were associated with increases in common PNS (β = .667, p < .001) with a large effect size (Rinitial PNS2 = .363 of the Rchange in PNS2 = .426).

Longitudinal measurement invariance was supported, and therefore PNS scores could be used to study change over time. Further, 2 equally well fitting models were found suggesting that change in PNS can be both an antecedent and an outcome of MVPA. As such, both PNS and MVPA could be targeted in interventions aimed at increasing need satisfaction or MVPA.

Previously published findings from the DepreMI cohort suggested that both the course and the type of depressive symptoms following myocardial infarction (MI) are related to prognosis but did not examine both factors simultaneously. The aim of this reanalysis study was to assess whether MI patients can be empirically classified based on trajectories of cognitive/affective (CA) and somatic/affective (SA) symptoms, and whether these classes differentially predict adverse outcomes.

Patients with acute MI (n = 457) were recruited between 1997 and 2000 and provided (BDI-I) data at baseline, 3, 6 and 12 months. Parallel Processes latent class growth analysis was used to identify latent classes. Patients were followed up until 2007 for all-cause mortality and cardiovascular readmissions.

Three classes were identified low severity = consistently low CA and SA (n = 316); somatic persistence = consistently low CA and high SA (n = 110); and overall persistence = high and increasing CA and SA (n = 31). After adjustmatients that may explain the differential associations with mortality.

The present study identified and compared the coping strategies of Chinese American, Korean American, and Mexican American breast cancer survivors (BCS).

Six focus groups were conducted with Chinese American (n = 21), Korean American (n = 11), and Mexican American (n = 9) BCS. Interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed, and translated for thematic content analysis of coping experiences and strategies.

Women reported the use of 8 coping strategies (religious/spiritual, benefit finding, fatalism, optimism, fighting spirit, information seeking, denial, and self-distraction). Among Chinese American BCS, benefit finding was the most referenced coping strategy, whereas religious/spiritual coping was most frequently reported among Korean American and Mexican American BCS. Denial and self-distraction were the least cited strategies.

Survivors draw upon new found inner strength to successfully integrate their cancer experience into their lives. Coping models must consider the diversity of cancer survivors and the variability in coping strategies among cultural ethnic minority BCS.
